It’s another crazy day in the CatBox. I had to split my grocery order into two deliveries, one from each of two locations, the Amazon warehouse and New Seasons Market. The larger of the two from Amazon has already come, and it was so well packed and organized that putting everything away was relatively painless. The New Seasons order is only three items, but one of them is a key ingredient for tonight’s supper. That will come between 10:00 and Noon. Tonight is a shower night, and I’m planning a special supper for WWW: bagels with lox, cream cream cheese, and onions! Oy Purrrr!!!
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:22 (average 5:12). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From The Atlantic: Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma put it a bit more succinctly. “God made Republicans to cut taxes,” he quipped to reporters.
Trump hasn’t even signed it in OUR blood yet, and Republicans are already trying to blame their albatross on somebody else. RESIST!!
From Washington Post: The White House has taken down a popular online tool created by President Barack Obama’s administration that allowed the public to create online petitions, some of which required an official response.
All of the petitions, including one that called on President Trump to release his tax returns — the most popular, with more than a million signatures — disappeared from Petitions.WhiteHouse.Gov as part of what a statement https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/ said was part of a maintenance effort to improve its performance.
The statement said that the site, as well as all of its existing petitions, would be restored by the end of January.
“All existing petitions and associated signatures have been preserved and will be available when the site is relaunched,” the note said. “Following the site’s relaunch, petitions that have reached the required number of signatures will begin receiving responses.”
I’ll bet a buck that, when the end of January comes, there will be a problem that will cause a "slight" delay in getting it back up. That delay will continue until Drumpfenfarten is no longer Fuhrer. Any takers? RESIST!!
From NY Times: The Democratic wave that rose on Election Day in Virginia last month delivered a final crash on the sand Tuesday when a Democratic challenger defeated a Republican incumbent by a single vote, leaving the Virginia House of Delegates evenly split between the two parties.
The victory by Shelly Simonds, a school board member in Newport News, was a civics lesson in every-vote-counts as she won 11,608 to 11,607 in a recount conducted by local election officials. [emphasis added]
How many times have you heard lazy lefties or third party fools say their vote doesn’t matter, because it will make no difference anyway. Bullshit! RESIST!!

OMG that sounds delicious! You and WWWendy enjoy!
Atlantic – Ummm – Tom Cole, I don’t think it WAS God who made Republicans.
WaPo – I suspect that when January comes, they will do nothing, say nothing, and hope we have all forgotten. But I still won’t take your bet.
NYT – I saw this and loved it. Be sure to send it to everyone you know who has ever said, “My vote won’t make any difference.”
Cartoon – I think they have changed their tactics and are waiting for US to secede from THEM – which, if they make America despicable enough, we may start considering more seriously.
If you never do this, do it today. Scroll up to the top of the page, look at the boxes on the left side, and particularly the fourth one down – “Recent Posts.” Use that box, after you finish, to look at the two posts immediately prior to this one. It will be rewarding, I promise.
Atlantic: God had nothing to do with this scam to the American People. She said it was the repugs’/devil’s doing!
WP: I read this last night, wth?? A nut & bolt that will be tightened while Mr. Dumpty is in office, and screwing all of us.
NYT: Isn’t this simply marvelous!!? WooHoo to Ms. Simonds, WTG!!!!
Cartoon: ugh!
Your supper sounds wonderful !! so glad your deliveries came in. Hi, WWW!!! Hope that you have a good, fun evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.
By passing the disastrous tax “reform,” Rethuglicans have lit the fuse on their destruction. I would not be at all surprised if there is a serious political bloodbath in the midterm elections. Already I have contacted my (mis)representative and Senators and told them how disappointed I am in their refusal to listen to Hoi Polloi.
Removing those petitions won’t stop the anti-Trump forces at all, only make them all the more determined to toss the Orange Ogre out of D.C. The Tangerine Troglodyte is completely out of touch with reality.
I just got back home this PM! But I’ll be heading back up to IL in just a couple of days for Xmas (Lord, I hope writing it like that pisses off those Talibangelical christianists), after I get my required CMEs earned.
Mom is doing better, and I transferred her to the Rehab site she was at following her hip replacement surgery 7 years ago. They’ve done a MAJOR remodeling job (Lord knows it could use it), and it’s really quite handsome now.
She’s getting PT, OT and Social Services – but still on 2L of O2. I plan to transfer her back to her apartment (Home Sweet Home) next Wednesday (outside chance of Tuesday). I transferred her myself from the hospital to the Rehab on O2 w/ no problems (saved her a couple of hundred dollars), so should be easy-peasy. (Lord, how do laypeople deal w/ all the medical stuff w/ little support? GOP Answer: They DON’T! They DIE! Or they pay for it!)
Hopefully a few more details later – but I’m going to be pretty scarce … CMEs come first. Plus all the other things going on at the Holiday time.
I’ve got a Cardiology AND PCP appointment lined up for her in the first week of January, so I’ll be heading back up … AGAIN! Bottom Line: I don’t see a “Friday Fun” in the near future – but I’ve got a damned good excuse … wish I didn’t, but I do!
So good to hear your mother is doing better, Nameless. You’ve got a lot on your plate right now, making sure that everything she needs is taken care of, so it’s understandable you won’t have any time left to do your “Friday Fun” for a while. But it will be sorely missed, even the holiday spirit isn’t enough to cheer me up.
Oh, and I didn’t understand one word about either PT, OT, 2L or O2, but that may be due to reading it on the veranda where the temperature is now about to come down from 37 degrees Celsius. Nah… even it were to snow here I wouldn’t have a clue what you were talking about
PT is physical therapy. OT I thought was occupational therapy (seems odd)? O2 is actually O subscript 2 (oxygen) and 2L is the quantity but I’m clueless on the meaning of the quantity and how severe that is.
Nameless, I’m glad things are going well; although it’s eating up your time, it has to be helping your serenity. I’ll also look forward to getting the column back, and wish you the best.
2L of O2 is 2 liters per minute. It’s average.
I thought it might be litres, but didn’t know the “per minute.” I’ve only used a concentrator myself.
Your concentrator should have had an adjustable flow rate. Mine was set to 2L/min.
I’m very happy to heat that your mom is doing better and consider that much more important than Friday Fun.
Since you have no Coronal Mass Ejections, I’m assuming CME must be Continuing Medical Education.
Have a great trip!
I hope your CMEs are so enjoyable that they will lead to more Friday Funs – when you are able, of course.
Oy indeed, one of the great Jewish traditions: bagel with lox and cream cheese. I’m not a great onion fan myself, so I would’ve packed that with chives, but as it is your aim to please WWW with a well-deserved special supper, TomCat, onions it must be.
TA: I can’t wait for a series in the New York Times or an equivalent that puts the likes of Tom Coles in their place by printing in the greatest detail possible how much each one of them profits as an individual, and a share holder from the Tax Scam they’ve voted for. Then see where they are trying to put the blame. Sigh…I can dream, can’t I.
WP: Yet another sigh…One more thing to add to the list of things to keep an eye on. There’s no fun in betting on this, TomCat, we all know we can kiss this site goodbye for now. It’s Obama’s site and it’s an embarrassment to the Drumpf administration. What we’ll see put up instead is a site where people can bestow praise on their great leader.
NYT: I’m sure Ms. Simonds, being a Democrat (and a woman), won’t be beating her chest over this victory by one vote, but she won fair and square and can be proud of that. So congratulations to you, Ms. Simonds and a big thank you all the democratic voters, especially to that 11,608th
The cream cheese was already packed with chives.
Here in KCMO, Einstein’s Bagel have had a special for the entire month of December: You get a Baker’s dozen’s of your-choice bagels for $6 every Monday!
I’ve been noshing on onion bagels w/ Nova Scotia smoked lox and cream cheese all month long … until I headed up to IL. (I love red onions – they don’t love me! Would have LOVED to have some chives, though.)
Sounds Yummy!
Puzzle — 4:00 This one won’t even melt to give you a drink!
The Atlantic — Isn’t it amazing that Republicans who were always at Obama about the deficit (claimed he increased it when he was actually reducing it) are willing now to substantially increase it for their own purposes. What a bunch of lying, hypocritical thieves, these Republicans!
Washington Post — This régime only listens to itself, not the people. I suspect that any current petitions will be permanently lost . . . oops! The fact that Obama created this tool is enough for Drumpf to deep six it permanently.
NY Times — Unfortunately things have changed. From CBC:
Republicans will do anything to get their way.
Cartoon — Well if you’re going to, do it and take your piss poor excuse for a president with you!
We had 10 cm of snow yesterday which had turned icy over night, and we are scheduled for some more tomorrow evening. It is also very icy in our parking lot. I hope your bagels were true bagels and not the airy bread doughnuts. True bagels should be very dense, almost as dense as a Republican’s head! I made bagels many years ago and I did a reasonable job. Lox and cream cheese . . . I can taste it now! Enjoy!
Yancy kept examining ballots, even though Simonds had been declared the winner. Had Simonds kept examining ballots, she may also have found some to challenge. Now she won’t have the opportunity and the winner will be determined by lot.
Oh well, there’s always the district that got the wrong ballots. That may end up with fireworks.
Oh? I hadn’t heard of that one.
Thanks all! Hugs!
