I just returned from my appointment with Megan, and I’m a certified A-1 prime Puddy Tat. That’s my only medical appointment this week.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:41 (average 4:54). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Religious Agony:
My Broncos would have gotten bird shat anyway, but a couple zebras played with the birds.
Short Takes:
From YouTube (Inequality Media Channel): A Year Without a President
The Reich on the Left is RIGHT! We may not have a President, but we do have a Fuhrer. RESIST!!
From The New Yorker: The White House called an unscheduled press briefing on Sunday to clarify Michael T. Flynn’s role in the Trump campaign, claiming that his job consisted entirely of making coffee when George Papadopoulos was busy with other matters.
“Sometimes, we would ask for coffee and George was otherwise occupied,” the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said. “At that point, Michael Flynn would step in and make that coffee.”
When asked what role Flynn’s son, Michael G. Flynn, played in the campaign, Sanders indicated that he, too, was involved in coffee-making to the exclusion of all other responsibilities.
Andy, that’s less absurd than any of the balderdash coming from the Fuhrer and his Republican Reich! RESIST!!
From NY Times: A gunman clad in all black, with a ballistic vest strapped to his chest and a military-style rifle in his hands, opened fire on parishioners at a Sunday service at a small Baptist church in rural Texas, killing at least 26 people and turning this tiny town east of San Antonio into the scene of the country’s newest mass horror.
The gunman was identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety as Devin Patrick Kelley, 26. Mr. Kelley, who lived in New Braunfels, Tex., died shortly after the attack.
He had served in the Air Force at a base in New Mexico but was court-martialed in 2012 on charges of assaulting his wife and child. He was sentenced to 12 months’ confinement and received a “bad conduct” discharge in 2014, according to Ann Stefanek, the chief of Air Force media operations.
The motive for the attack was unclear on Sunday, but the grisly nature of it could not have been clearer: Families gathered in pews, clutching Bibles and praying to the Lord, were murdered in cold blood on the spot.
Mr. Kelley started firing at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs not long after the Sunday morning service began at 11 a.m., officials said. He was armed with a Ruger military-style rifle, and within minutes, many of those inside the small church were either dead or wounded. The victims ranged in age from 5 to 72, and among the dead were several children, a pregnant woman and the pastor’s 14-year-old daughter. It was the deadliest mass shooting in the state’s history. At least 20 more were wounded.
We know very little about this Republican ammosexual, except that Texas Republicans granted him a concealed carry permit illegally, due to his domestic violence conviction history. RESIST!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
5:12 OGIM.
Joy Ann Reid is saying what I have been thinking. Except she says it a lot better, because she has looked into it better and has better skills. Of course there is a boatload of disagreement and bitterness there in the comments.
“Hammerhead” has a good point too.
<-Reich – A would-be Führer that we are all hoping can be worked around until he can be booted out.
TNY – What is this “coffee” you speak of? I thought Republicans just drank tea and booze (not necessarily in that order.)
NYT – The purchase was legal. His DD214, or something in the paper chain, merely said “assault.” The domestic violence was not on record for the gun seller. And, while a Dishonorable Discharge prevents one from buying a gun, a Bad Conduct Discharge does not. The concealed carry permit was NOT granted, but that also didn’t preclude the sale of the gun. Such are our gun laws. I’ve been all over my own DD214 this morning looking for something that might have been done differently, and whether it would have been a good idea if it had. I might add there has been a lot of back and forth on this all over the ‘Net, and there isn’t 100% agreement on the interpretation, but what I’ve said is as I understand it.
Cartoon – I’m gonna say one of the only two good Republican Presidents. There have been a handful of good Republican governors, Congressmen, and Senators over almost 160 years. No, I can’t name any off the top of my head, but I know I’ve heerd tell of ’em. (BTW, who are you calling the second one? Teddy or Ike?)
P.S. The Air Force is now taking the blame for not having the civilian world full information on Mr. Kelly. That seems to me to be kind of them, since I don’t see that they abused their own system. If they do start cracking down on providing such information, things could get interesting. And even more so for the other services.
Joy Ann, staunch Hillary supporter for years, made a lot of good points but ignored the main issue. The culprit here isn’t Hillary. It’s Wassermann-Schultz and the DNC for allowing conditions to deteriorate to the extent that they went hat-in-hand to Hillary to save their butts. I can’t imaging any candidate bailing them out like that without taking control of the finances to benefit their campaign. What the DNC should have done is go to both Clinton and Sanders and negotiated a plan for both to bail them out and benefit equally.
Hammerhead misses the boat. He says that the presence of an election justifies ignoring the deplorable way the DNC has been run. It does not. If we don’t fix the problem now the mismanagement and corruption will continue.
Oh, yeah, I’m quite open that I don’t want to be in a room alone with Wasserman-Schultz ever, for both our protection.
I hear that! Last night proved Hammerhead wrong.
If Abraham Lincoln was alive today, almost no doubt that he would be a Democrat. So, who was the other good Republican prez?
That piqued my curiosity, too.
So – who do you think is the other “good republican”? Teddy Roosevelt? Eisenhower?
And the list stops there!
I liked Ike, and then I remembered Teddy, so I had to ask also. (You can’t really count Teddy as a Bull Moose until after he was out of office).
YOU remembered Teddy?!?
You can’t be THAT old!!!
I would be if I were as old as my new Drivers License photo looks. No, you can’t see it.
IKE. I count Teddy as half good, because his imperialist warmongering offset his excellent domestic policies.
Fair enough.
RR: Excellent vid. Well said, and I agree with everything Mr. Reich says!
NYer: Highly skilled coffee makers I might add. LOL, Andy.
NYT: Another day. Another shooting. Grieving parents and community. When will it (the violence) end??
Cartoon: He’d be mortified if he were alive today. I certainly am.
Glad that your appointment went well. Good news for sure! Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.
Robert Reich: No comment, nothing to add. Robert has left me comment-less with this video. He left me with only one big wish: that he, Bernie and Liz were all 20-30 years younger.
TNY: So now we know what it responsible for Drumpf twittering in the early hours of the morning and the nervous babbling that comes out of the White House: Caffeine poisoning.
NYT: In another attempt to keep yet another mass shooting away from a discussion on gun control, Drumpf said that this was not a gun thing:
While I agree with the “We have a lot of mental health problems in our country” bit, it is sad to see that some of these mental health problems prevent some people in the highest offices in Government from connecting two dots which make mass shootings very much a guns situation.
Glad your health got rubber-stamped again, TomCat.
Lona, the handcuffs are in the wrong place. They should be around his wrists which should be behind his back. That would be a kindness for him as it would make scratching his ass easier.
Point taken.
Robert Reich: Excellent points on why USA does NOT have a president. (CC).
New Yorker: Most likely they made “mud” coffee.
NY Times: Another deranged “Republican Ammosexual” shooting 46 innocent lives is the reason why the FBI must label the NRA as an American Terrorist Organization. We all need to write to our congresscritters that we want tougher gun laws! NOW!
Cartoon: The other “good” republican
Dwight D. Eisenhower: “Ike” had the foresight to warn America about the military-industrial complex and the rise of the GOP far right-wing conservatives. Take a look at the rise of the police obtaining and using military grade weapons. The police no longer “Serve and Protect” the citizens but they do protect corporations instead.
Theodore Roosevelt: Don’t forget that T.R. proposed universal health care over 100 years ago as a progressive. Theodore Roosevelt, President of the USA, received the Peace Prize for having negotiated peace in the Russo-Japanese war in 1904-5.
Fun fact on Teddy Roosevelt: You can’t kill a Bull Moose
On October 14, 1912, Roosevelt was campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when a local saloon-keeper shot him. The bullet lodged in his chest after passing through a jacket pocket containing his steel eyeglass case and a copy of his 50 page speech which had been folded in half. Being an anatomist, Roosevelt concluded that since he wasn’t coughing blood the bullet had not penetrated the chest wall into his lung. He declined immediate treatment and gave his 90 minute speech with blood seeping from the wound into his shirt. “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot,” Roosevelt said, “but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.”
.
Puzzle — 4:06 through the hacking!
Robert Reich — AMEN!!!
The New Yorker — No wonder they are so screwed — too much laced coffee! . . . laced with Russian vodka!
NY Times — I understand from our news that he had had a disagreement with his mother-in-law and that she was a member of that church, but was not in attendance that day. I guess we have to wait to find out the motive for his actions. As to the laws, I support gun control, strict gun control. Apparently Texas has very lax gun laws which partly allowed this to happen. As to the Air Force (or whomever is responsible for making the rules around discharges), I think they need to put bad conduct discharges under the same restrictions as dishonourable discharges.
Cartoon — Certainly the first that comes to mind, but I’d also I’d agree Teddy Roosevelt and Ike are also in the offing.
Lona, I hope you don’t mind that I continue to use this “resist” piece. It speaks to my sensibilities so much. Thank you.
It has been cold here of late which is rather ironic of me to say since I enjoyed living in the north where the average winter temperature was -40 C (-40 F), although a much drier cold. Many older people like my mother, seem to feel the cold more and dress with sweaters etc even in the house. Hmmmm . . . a sign of old age? I seem to have picked up a sore throat so I hope I am not coming down with this year’s flu bug.
You’re very welcome, Lynn. Of course I don’t mind, everything I put in the library is there for all to use.
Thanks all. Hugs!
