I had a unique experience this morning.  I was doing my research and had the AC off, the window open, and the door cracked for cross ventilation.  I actually felt cold, and by the time I finished, I was shivering.  I LOVED it.  So I took a morning nap and worked on remembering how to snuggle down under the covers.  Of course, the sun hit the wall a half an hour ago, so I had to button up and torn on the AC, but starting Sunday, we have four days of rain forecast, and that brings another dilemma.  Does anyone remember what rain is?

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:44 (average 5:33).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (GQ Channel): It’s Now Dawned on Trump: People Hate Him

How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways. You’re a sphincter. Worse, you are an exact personification of the Republican Party. Number of other reasons: . RESIST!!

From NY Times: President Trump thrust himself back into the racial storms of Charlottesville on Thursday, repeating his charge that those who resisted the neo-Nazis and white supremacists were as much to blame as the alt-right crowds who marched on the Virginia college town.

Despite his desperate attempts to seek attention by feigning bipartisanship, Putin’s Puppet retains his entropy with his Republican base: fanatical white supremacists. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos (checked this one): Republicans House leaders are facing a grim reality: They have produced basically nothing to please their base and now some of the saner members among their ranks are announcing retirements at a frightening clip. TPM’s Cameron Joseph writes:

It’s not much fun to be a House Republican these days. President Trump has repeatedly taken potshots at their conference. Primary challenges burble on the right. Congress has been unable to pass much meaningful legislation in spite of unified control of Washington. Every trip home means an earful both from liberals furious at their support of the president and conservatives irate they’re not doing enough to support his agenda. And members who haven’t seen real competition for years face tough races due to Trump’s deep unpopularity. […]

“There are a number of people, plenty of whom we don’t even know about yet, who are torn” about running again, said one national GOP strategist involved in House races. “Whether there’s measurable progress on tax reform the next 30 days will be determinative. If we get to November 1st and it looks like tax reform isn’t happening, I think there’ll be a mass exodus.”

“It’s a disaster if it doesn’t happen,” conservative Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) warned, referring to a failure to make meaningful progress on tax reform. “That has an effect. People like me who are here for the cause, if we see no hope for the cause, which in my case will never happen, that would have a terribly damning effect on our stamina here.”

As I see it, they are not at all likely to get the victory for their rabid base that they seek. They are too fractured and incompetent to agree among themselves. If they do make a deal with Democrats, they will have to give up so much that their base will consider it a betrayal. This couldn’t happen to a more evil bunch of assholes! RESIST!!

  1. KO: He’s finally saying that?? NOW?? It was day ONE for me, he’s NOT my president !!!

NYT: No mention of the woman who died by a hateful Nazi/White Supremacist at the protest that day. Nothing. Those folks at the rally who resisted that day, and Heather too, showed more spine that you ever will have, dt.

DK: What a great article! imho, I’m pleased at this news! Keep callin’ and emailing folks!

Cartoon: Worthy organization, imho. On their banner: “When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that we can’t eat money…” *Alanis Obomsawin, an Abenaki from the Odanak reserve. Source: https://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/10/20/last-tree-cut/

Glad to read you had a nice morning and nap. We haven’t had any rain since the hurricane blew in, and that’s okay with me. Still green too. Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  2. 4:32  I don’t know whether it’s edible.

Keith # 122 – “Donald Trump and I agree on something!”  LOL!  I would not, of course, trust him in any “deal” we may attempt to roll him in.  That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do our best to do so.  We just need to WATCH OUR BACKS!

NYT – I could also have posted this link under Keith’s article, but either way, it’s kind of cool.

DKos- Oh, this one’s by Kerry Eleveld.  I’ve always found him reliable, and compunctious (probably not a real word, but “having compunction” is so clumsy) with his sources.

    Cartoon – Worthy indeed.

  3. Keith: The Empty Orange IS in need of adulation, but it is never enough, because you can’t fill an infinite void!  Besides, there is nothing of substance, in its center, for anything to attach to.
NYT: As Keith said in #121, “He’s just crazy!” And this is further, who the hell needs “further,” proof!
DK: “incompetent” is exactly the word, TC!!  I understand that in small, little, local races, the Dems are winning at a decent rate, already.  A new grass roots group, “Indivisible, ” is working to help change things from the bottom up.  Check them out.

  4. Puzzle — 3:54  Enjoy your salad!  It will be very colourful at least, but maybe not so filling.  The perfect accompaniment to flamingo fricassée.

YouTube — Damn!  That Orange Ogre is thick!  I’ve known for a number of years that anybody with even a modicum of sense dislike him intensely, and I am among them.  Even more, nobody with any sense trusts him!  I wonder what tipped him off?

NY Times — Entropy indeed!  A line from the movie “A Clear and Present Danger” seems to describe Drumpf — “How can he be clear when clear is not what he wants to be.”  Drumpf is a bigot and a racist and his return to Charlottesville is very clear to me. I heard on the car radio on Tuesday or Wednesday that Drumpf has threatened to sue someone for defamation and libel because they publically called him a racist and bigot.  I have quickly looked for the story but did not find it but given the number of lawsuits involving Drumpf, that’s not surprising.  Any judge in their right mind would throw the suit out based on Drumpf’s rants etc.

Daily Kos — “If they do make a deal with Democrats, they will have to give up so much that their base will consider it a betrayal.” — JD provided a link above to Raw Story which shows what Drumpf supporters did when Drumpf worked with Pelosi and Schumer on support for DACA.  To say they were pissed is putting it mildly.

A Trump supporter burns his ‘Make America Great Again’ hat.

Between Republican lawmakers, who can’t even agree amongst themselves, and Drumpf supporters reacting to perceived failures of the Drumpf administration, things do not look good for conservatives.  I just hope that the Democrats don’t rest on their laurels during the midterms.  There is definitely a fight to win.

Cartoon —  And still going strong!

‘Does anyone remember what rain is?’— Yup!  We had some last week and are slated for more over the coming week.  Temps have sure cooled which is so good!

    • Further to my comment on the NY Times piece, the incident is covered by Ari Melber on The Last Word 15/09/2017.

“Donald Trump demanded an apology after ESPN’s Jemele Hill tweeted that the president is a “white supremacist.” Author Ta-Nehisi Coates gave a must-watch response, citing the public evidence. Ari Melber discusses with Zerlina Maxwell and Karine Jean-Pierre.”

  5. Keith Olbermann #122: You do know that people suffering from dementia may have moment of clarity, don’t you, Keith. This wasn’t some epic Shakespearean revelation, this was Alzheimer’s lifting the cloud for a moment.   Drumpf realizing that people ff-ing hate him and not liking it for a brief moment in time doesn’t mean he’s still aware of it now nor that he’ll ever be aware of it again. And you can bet on it that his enabling caretakers make sure that he forgets about it as soon as possible.

NYT: “alt-right crowds”? It’s all to clear where Drumpf gets his information from, even if he himself doesn’t remember. After you’ve answered your the question your grandad has asked for the 20th time, you know that his Alzheimer’s diagnosis was undeniably spot on. Why won’t Republicans accept that diagnosis when Drumpf keeps returning to toxic subjects that are so obviously hurtful to himself and to Republicans?

DK: Boohoo, are we supposed to feel sorry for Republicans now? Especially for those “saner ones”? I think not; the really sane ones left when Drumpf was chosen as the GOP’s presidential candidate, the slightly sane ones left when he lost the majority vote but became president anyway. The rest of them deserve what they get. 27

Cartoon: And as active as ever!

“Does anyone remember what rain is?” I bet our friends, living in Texas, or Florida or neighboring states do remember rain vividly, TomCat. It looks like climate change is doing a great job dividing the country too: west of the Rockies arid with heat, drought and wild fires and east of it flooded with rain from tropical storms.

  6. Thanks all!  Hugs!14
