It’s a pretty miserable day here on the way to 102° and 65% humidity. Last night was so muggy that I hardly slept. ARGH! The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Air Quality Warning for and is considering evacuating Washington, DC in advance of tomorrow’s methane storm
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:09 (average 4:54). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From weather.com: Hurricane Irma now poses potential threat to parts of the US as islands located along the east of the Caribbean Sea prepare for its arrival.
Irma strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane on Sunday and additional strengthening is expected as Irma heads west in the days ahead, where it could become a Category 4 hurricane.
Only less than a week after Hurricane Harvey devastated large parts of the US Gulf coast, residents and meteorologists in the East Coast are continuing to monitor its progress very closely.
If it has to hit the US, may it park over Trump! RESIST!!
From Daily Kos (Classic 8/2013): If you know anyone who still believes in a “liberal media,” here’s 15 things everyone would know if there really were a “liberal media” (inspired by Jeff Bezos’ purchase of The Washington Post):
1. Where the jobs went.
Outsourcing (or offshoring) is a bigger contributor to unemployment in the U.S. than laziness.
Since 2000, U.S. multinationals have cut 2.9 million jobs here while increasing employment overseas by 2.4 million. This is likely just the tip of the iceberg as multinational corporations account for only about 20% of the labor force.
When was the last time you saw a front-page headline about outsourcing?
Too True! All, except the 9th, are still true. I shared the first thing. Click through for the other fourteen. RESIST!!
From Raw Story: Former President Barack Obama is expected to come out swinging against President Donald Trump’s decision to end protections for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States by their parents as children.
According to Politico, Obama plans to post a message opposing Trump’s decision on Facebook, and then promote it on Twitter to his 94 million followers.
The publication notes that, shortly before leaving office, Obama said he would not remain silent if Trump engaged in “efforts to round up kids who have grown up here and for all practical purposes are American kids, and send them someplace else, when they love this country.”
Kudos to Obama. Trump now says his plan has a six month delay to give Congress time to agree on a solution. That’s just an excuse to deport the DACA kids and blame it on Democrats, after Republicans refuse to negotiate in good faith, as always. RESIST!!

5:19 A little salad?
We don’t even have the extreme weather you are experiencing, and I am also having sleep issues. I got over nine hours of unconsciousness lst night (I can’t call it sleep because the quality just isn’t there),and I am yawning and falling asleep over the computer. Essentially lack of oxygen, I expect. The oxygen quality just isn’t the same whan the air has to go in through a dry mouth instead of through nostrils. And the concentrator doesn’t help when it’s blocked.
Weather – This looks a little kinder than maps I was seeing over the weekend – kinder to the U. S. Eastern seabord, I mean. But the models vary widely. And this one stops at the present, and doesn’t suggest a future.
DKos – Sure, it’s old, but can’t be said too many times. And Number 9 is not gone, it’s only on temporary hiatus. Sigh.
Raw Story – Well. How hard is it to come up with the name of a Dreamer who, in his way too short life, accomplished far more good for the country than Donald J. Barf could if he live to be two hundred (which God forbid)? Say his name: Alonso Guillen. And, just to add insult to injury, his mother was denied a humanitarian visa to attend his funeral.
Cartoon – I’ll bet you didn’t think this cartoon woud still be true now, and will be true for the foreseeable future, no matter who is in the White House. On the other hand, maybe you did.
Weather: It’s a Cat 4. with 130 mph winds. I’m hoping that it curves outward towards the Atlantic. We’ll see.
DK:All very concerning to me. Teachers are leaving their field of expertise, the bees are almost gone, and the big corps., are taking over.
RS: Worst thing the repugs & dt, ugh! thought of. It’s heartbreaking to anticipate, with kids being ripped away from their families. It’s a disgrace. I think Mr. Obama has been biding his time, so this is a good sign he’s coming back. How I miss this President. I’ll be rooting, and watching for him all the way.
Cartoon: Sad. Just so sad. ass-Hats!!
Our weather has been mild, mid 90’s-60’s in the evening. Sorry to hear about your high temps, and the humidity. That just saps the energy out of anybody. Hope you have a good evening, and take care. Thanks, Tom. btw: JJ Watt of the Houston Texans team, so far, he’s nearing the totals for donations to 20 mil for victims of Harvey. Other NFL teams are stepping up also.
Weather.com: Hurricane Irma has been upgraded to a category 4 storm already, but where it’ll land in America, if at all, is still not certain; Florida is still at risk. At the moment I feel most for the people on the islands in its path like Haiti and Cuba, who had to overcome so many devastating storms already and do not have the resources to rebuild, nor can they expect much help from their disaster-stricken neighbors. For the sake of the people of Florida let’s hope Irma doesn’t hit Florida too, even though Drumpf’s golf courses might get flooded. If they do, they’re probably be the first to get help too, so…
DK: How little things change…either in myth content or in reality.
RS: Drumpf is now delaying his plan for another 6 months. That sounds sóóó like the Obamacare repeal: Drumpf/Republicans probably haven’t got a plan for this either. And, like you said, TomCat, when they can’t come up with one that doesn’t disgusts everyone in the next six months, they’ll blame it on the Democrats, which won’t work. Déjà vu. The only difference is that now Obama might be drawn into it personally.
Cartoon: Applicable to any crisis, of which there are many, these days.
It’s about time your part of the world realized it’s autumn, isn’t it, TomCat. You all could do with some mild autumn weather, preferably for a long time and without jumping straight into winter snowstorms. Unfortunately, “mild” seems to be a word that’s gone out of fashion for almost everything.
Puzzle — 3:36 I agree with JD. It might make a tasty salad.
Weather.com — I could really root for Irma if it only affected Republicans and took out Mar-a-Lago! Harvey was a cat 4 and the destruction and mayhem is horrific. Irma, according to the news is a cat 4 now. I wonder if it has dawned on Republicans that the increasing number and severity of storms is partially caused by climate change?
Daily Kos — “They seem to be far more focused on entertainment and making money.” — THAT’S really liberal? I must say that I get tired of the right and Drumpf going on about a liberal media or liberal media bias. If there were truly a liberal media, the US might not have Drumpf as the pResident.
Raw Story — Kudos to Obama! I’ll bet that Drumpf will find something to say, and it won’t be civil. I’d be surprised if Drumpf does not try to pin something on Obama and drag him into court.
Cartoon — Republican accountability — blame everything on Obama!
“The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Air Quality Warning for and is considering evacuating Washington, DC in advance of tomorrow’s methane storm” — Methane storm? Have you been cooking and eating chili again, or is Congress returning from their unrecess recess? You had extreme weather and we had very hot weather — 33 C (92 F). We would have the same weather as Portland if we weren’t so far north, and that would truly suck!
I’m here late, and Irma just went to Cat. 4!
Trump has declared an end to DACA, and I am awaiting Obama’s response. I tried to post the story, a few minutes ago, but C2 said it is experiencing unusually heavy traffic, please try later.. I’ve found that to mean fugget-aboud-it! I will try still later, from scratch.
If Irma sets down over Mar-A Lago, we might see some sense come from the Orange Empty, but I’m not going to hold my breath!
Thanks all. Exhausted hugs!
