I told you it was hot. Yesterday, Portland reached 92°, tying the record high for the date. Today will be a a few degrees cooler, but not much. Wendy will arrive in a few minutes to remove several layers of stink from the TomCat and help with cooking. If I start typing ‘Seig Heil’ as I write, please bear with me until the Dulcolax kicks in. I have Republicitis.
Wendy just left. Never has a cat needed so much scrubbing!

Today’s took me 3:15 (average 4:33). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From YouTube (TYT Channel): Kids Will Now Take "Anti-Science" Classes
Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians invented Supply-side Jesus, who, unlike the real Jesus, believes in hate, greed, and lies, but not in science. Cenk is wrong in part. Authentic Christians do not force beliefs on others. We honor their beliefs, as long as those who hold them also respect others’ beliefs. RESIST!!
From Washington Post: President Trump failed to commit to remaining within the Paris climate agreement during a two-day meeting with world leaders that ended here Saturday, but he tweeted that he was still considering it and would announce a final decision “next week.”
In a final communique, the Group of Seven industrialized countries said that the United States “is not in a position to join the consensus.” The other six members reaffirmed their commitment to swiftly implement the 2015 accord to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
The G-7 summit marked the last stop of Trump’s first overseas trip as president.
That is tragic, and his failure to support the climate agreement is almost as bad as the tragedy. Isn’t there a way we could have stopped him at the border? RESIST!!
From LA Times:
A 35-year-old white supremacist with a criminal record has been arrested in connection with the stabbing deaths Friday of two men on a light-rail train in Portland, Ore., who intervened when he began to hurl anti-Muslim epithets at two women, one who was wearing a head scarf, police said.
Jeremy Joseph Christian of North Portland was jailed early Saturday on charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder, intimidation in the second degree and felony possession of a restricted weapon. He is being held without bail, and could face additional charges, police said.
The incident occurred on the Metropolitan Area Express light-rail line — known as MAX —during rush hour Friday. The two men who were killed appear to have stepped in to protect the women from racial slurs. One of the men was identified in a Facebook post by his mother as Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, a recent graduate of Reed College.
Condolences to the families. Sadly, there are Republicans even in Portland, OR. Al Orange is a greater terrorist threat than the Daesh. RESIST!!

It has been Fitzwalkerstan, in thrall to Fartfuhrer Walker, far too long!

4:27 Don't break a tooth!
YT/TYT – Predictable, but very, very sad. IIRC, they DID use to teach the Bible in school – before the Revolution. Which was why the Founding Fathers – who mostly were the liberals of their day – were so adamant about getting separation of church and state into the Constitution. Yeah, Cenk is wrong about all Christians being Dominionists. But from the response (or lack thereof) from much of the mainstream denominations, it's an understandable mistake.
WaPo – It actually surprised me that he said he was considering it. I doubt he will decide to stay.
LA Times – (and Raw Story and Daily Kos and AlterNet and probably just about everywhere else) This is so sad – and so Republican. But it's almost more disturbing the people who are calling for more guns to be carried everywhere as a response to this. And some no doubt think they are liberal. It is to weep.
Yes, we do need it back. Yesterday would not be too soon.
I think the only reason he said he hasn't decided is that he waiting to announce it in a protected media environment, Faux Noise.
I would not have thought he had the faintest clue on saying anything tactfully. Someone must have got hold of him.
Agreed.
YT: Depressing for our students. Yes, JL, I agree, I don't think DeVos has a clue at all about what is being taught in science classes, or anything else for that matter.
WP: Figures. This is very sad.
LA: Such tragedy these days. My condolences to those affected by this violence.
Cartoon: Yes, Please!!!
Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.
TYT: Florida, and the other states with this idiot rule make me wonder, in the vein of classical Fairy Tale Religion: "How many idiots can dance on the head of a pin? One thousand pin-heads!
WaPo: Rump's decision to hold off on his decision is nought but a ploy to announce his decision from home, when he will not be on the spot, as much. His decision will be to not join the rest of the G7. Sean Spinning Head-Pimple will turn himself into an explosion of methane, as he defends this imbecility!
L.A. Times: Yes, this tragedy belongs right in the lap of the Empty Orange Terroroist Group!
Cartoon: So, where in hell were the citizens with brains when he was on the ropes, with the recall?
Well, if you take Ducolax while you actually have "republicitits" … I suppose that's one way to cleanse your enteric tract.
But your porcelain bowl might object
a bita great deal!I think Dulcolax is appropriate for Republicitis. It's Republicosis that brings out the Imodium.
JD is correct.
You need to publish a "Merck Manual" for your GOP diseases.
See today's Open Thread.
Puzzle — 3:28 This dawg will have a rather chalky taste if dare venture that far!
YouTube — What was one of Drumpf's main campaign promises? JOBS! Without the science that goes with today's and tomorrow's jobs, there will not be nearly enough skilled labour to fill available positions (ie robotics for one) and the unemployment rate will jump. How about doctors and nurses — rely on science. I for one will not be going to an American doctor, one who did not study science. Republicans cannot deliver on their promises without science, They are heading back to the Dark Ages.
Washington Post — This trip was nothing more than an opportunity to look like the 'big man on campus' in front of all these world leaders, and a personal shopping trip for his businesses. I am not sure if Drumpf realises that the other leaders were laughing at him as he made his speech. He is a certified whacko!!! Drumpf has complete disdain for Angela Merkel and Germany because she is a strong woman and he has no business dealings in Germany. Perhaps it is time that the rest of the world cut off the US. Certainly with the G6 and climate change, it did just that. With Drumpf and Republicans in control, the US is going nowhere — it is fast becoming a pariah state.
LA Times — IMO, there is a greater danger in the US from militias than there is from Islamic terrorists. People like Timothy McVeigh or Christian kill more people than any Muslim extremist, and yet they walk among us unnoticed until something happens. And with Drumpf known to incite his followers, he has given license to people like Christian. My condolences to the families and friends of the 3 men gone from us defending others.
Cartoon — Wisconsin lost to the ravages of Republicanism, now known as Fitzwalkerstan.
Resist and Persist!!!
It was 92 F yesterday there in Portland. Today, it was 33 C (92 F) out where I live on the edge of the Fraser Valley. Vancouver city was about 6 degrees cooler because it is by the ocean. Sure makes sleeping more difficult. I received my first Canada Pension and Old Age Security deposits directly into my account. Now I know that I am a senior citizen . . . officially considered elderly by the government. What a laugh!
Congrats Granny Squatch!
They keep promising that the temperatures will go down tomorrow…mañana, mañana. The thunderstorms don't come, so the temperatures won't drop, equaling your records now, TomCat. I can appreciate why you would like Mandy to come over to help you shower more often.
TYT: Couldn't agree more, but it is very sad that it has come so far that Talibangelists have taken over the GOP and states need to be told to keep religion out of school curricula and government. And what's even sadder, that they don't give a sh$t and force their medieval view of the world down everyone else's throat anyway they can.
WP: Drumpf announced he'll decide on it "next week". Does he really think all of those 194 other world leaders of countries that signed the agreement are as stupid as he is and do not know that's his usual phrase for "never"" which he has used hundreds of times before to stop people dead in their tracks. Anyway, I've commented more than enough on this issue in your 'Europe Would Pay Us To Keep Trump Here article', I should say
LA Times: Condolences to family and friends of these two brave men, and condolences to Portland for being the site of such a hate crime. Whether Da'esh or White Supremacist inspired, most if not all terrorists are home-grown in the Western World, but the US still is in full denial of that fact. That is why leaders at the NATO summit smirked when Drumpf pressured the NATO, a military alliance, into a greater effort to combat terrorism and wouldn't go any further than agreeing to increase counter-terrorism "by addressing its root causes and the "propagation of poisonous ideology, particularly online", to meet the appeal British Prime Minister Theresa May made to NATO leaders after the suicide-bomb attack by a UK-grown terrorist, killing 22 people in Manchester only the day before. Yet another "success" Drumpf tried to take credit for.
Cartoon: Wisconsin has taken itself back from Walker, the next step is to rid themselves from Fitzgerald and the rest of the GOP.
& PERSIST, WISCONSIN!
I'm afraid that Walker is atill the Fartfuhrer there.
Your republicitis would be helped greatly with a diet high in vegetables, nuts, grains, and fruit.
It is Jerry, except for the nuts, which I can't chew.
Thanks all. Hugs!
