People keep asking how they can RESIST!! They want to know what they can do. I’m almost fortunate that my physical limitations dovetail with my skills to carve me out the niche I occupy: information and analysis. One thing we can do is support each other’s causes, instead of limiting ourselves to our own boutique issues, and I try to do that. Though white, I champion minority issues. Though straight, I champion LGBT issues. Though carnivorous (we cats are), I champion animal welfare issues. Though male, I champion women’s issues. Tomorrow, you have a chance to champion climate issues.
What’s Going On?
President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks continue to horrify, as we approach the confirmation hearings for the “billionaires, generals, and ideologues” that he wants to appoint. This group threatens to roll back hard-won civil rights, make healthcare harder to access, and destroy the few regulations we have policing Wall Street. And thanks to Trump’s appointment of climate change-deniers to prominent posts related to the environment, they threaten to destroy our planet.
Any nominee who denies the dangers of climate change and the need to end our reliance on fossil fuels must be stopped. There are quite a few of them. Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson was the CEO of Exxon, a company that funded climate-change denial for years after their own research pointed to the veracity of human-caused global warming. Environmental Protection Agency nominee Scott Pruitt built a career suing the very agency he is set to head. Secretary of Energy pick Former Texas Governor Rick Perry once advocated for the total elimination of the Department of Energy and sat on the board of the company building the Dakota Access Pipeline.
What can I do?
This Monday, January 9th, join the Day Against Denial. To show that we won’t stand for a climate-denying cabinet, people across the country will gather at their senators’ offices to demand that they reject Trump’s reckless picks.
You can find a map of events in all 50 states here and if you don’t see one in your area, there’s a toolkit to help you organize one yourself. Even if you can’t make a protest, follow #DayAgainstDenial on twitter and be sure to spread the word…

Beautifully put, TC – and why you are so loved and appreciated. Thank you.
Great article!! Bookmarked for future reference also. I'm passing this on to friends as well.
I signed up, and will call tomorrow.
Thanks, Tom.

I have physical limitations and a skill set similar to yours, TC, so I try to contribute but to stay out of your way. But I will say, whether it is one you are actively working on or not, climate change is everyone's issue. Even if one plans on dying tomorrow (which I doubt that anyone here does), one may have younger family, and almost certainly has friends who have younger family, whose lives are threatened by climate change.
Which brings to mind that I was watching last night on PBS an old Lawrence Welk show from 1972. The theme of the show was "transportation" – and there were pointed remarks made about pollution and smog. In 1972! How can anyone claim they weren't warned? (I suppose enjoying Lawrence Welk is a guilty pleasure – but the pleasure he took in the diversity of his "musical family" was not guilty. He was the first in history to hire an African American as a regular performer on a variety show on television, and even within his white performers, he celebrated different ethnicities. I suspect there were even a couple of LGBT, though of course that's just a guess, and I could be wrong.)
You're never in my way.
I applaud you for bringing the issue of Environmental Tyranny under Drumpf and his fossil-fuel loving cronies up and bringing this day to resist to our attention, TomCat. As has been said here before, Drumpf's environmental policies, or rather the lack there of, combined with the all-encompassing and shortsighted greed of the ones he and his cabinet really work for, are not only endangering all Americans, but the whole world.
There's no time to quibble over details, the picture is clear: we all need to act now if we want to prevent global warming to reach a point beyond return soon. Drumpf and his minions are not only not acting, they are about to reverse everything that has been done in the US to slow down the process. That musn't be allowed to happen, not for Americans and not for the whole planet.
So get out there today, stand undivided for the sake of this planet and your children who inherit it and
RESIST!!!
I have been signing, and calling, and signing, and calling, and must go to work tomorrow and be there for my psychotherapy clients.
If you can not get to a rally, the nearest one to me is quite a along ways off anyway, you can join groups like the Sierra Club, National (or a local ) Audubon Society (or both), League of Conservation Voters, World Wildlife Fund, the Environmental Defense Fund (Because the Earth needs a good lawyer), and so on!
Some of my therapy clients are presenting the Trump presidency as an issue incresing their anxiety!
I have often heard and read that patients who opt for therapy and take it seriously are generally saner than those who don't. Your clients' experience should help prove this to be true.
Which reminds me that Chris Reeves on Daily Kos shares a Facebook conversation from the page of a person who actually believes that repealing Obamacare will not affect him, because he is covered under the ACA. Seriously. Now there is someone who will never get therapy (and might actually not even be able to benefit from it if he did. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/01/08/1618369/-This-Image-Explains-The-ACA-Debate-I-Hear-Every-Day
There actually is a group meeting in Louisville, Ky. to protest tomorrow! It is the only one I can find in Kentucky, though. I am doing the same things as you, signing petitions, making calls, standing for any group being discriminated against, animal welfare of course is my main interest. Wish I was a few years younger and a lot wealthier, I could do much more.
If course. Nothing in OK. But I wouldn't be able to attend either. Of its not me, it's my husband down. And I got Dr.'s appts tomorrow. But I will be RESISTING right along with EVERYONE!
Trump's environmental tyranny will affect the entire globe! He has to be stopped!
I do what I can here north of the 49th and I sign lots of petitions.
Thanks all. Hugs. Nobodsy should feel guilty if they were unable to go.
