A College Grade of F-

I Trust you understand that the Electoral College had two functions in our former Republic.  The first is to certify the election of the voters’ choice for President.  The second is to act as a hedge against the certification os a President who is unfit for office, especially one in thrall to a foreign power.  In both cases, the Electoral College has failed miserably.  We can and must abolish the Electoral College.  The term Manchurian Candidate is now officially an anachronism.  Our Electoral College is certifying a Siberian Candidate.

1221ElectoralCollege

By overwhelming majorities, Americans would prefer to elect the president by direct popular vote, not filtered through the antiquated mechanism of the Electoral College. They understand, on a gut level, the basic fairness of awarding the nation’s highest office on the same basis as every other elected office — to the person who gets the most votes.

But for now, the presidency is still decided by 538 electors. And on Monday, despite much talk in recent weeks about urging those electors to block Donald Trump from the White House, a majority did as expected and cast their ballots for him — a result Congress will ratify next month.

And so for the second time in 16 years, the candidate who lost the popular vote has won the presidency. Unlike 2000, it wasn’t even close. Hillary Clinton beat Mr. Trump by more than 2.8 million votes, or 2.1 percent of the electorate. That’s a wider margin than 10 winning candidates enjoyed and the biggest deficit for an incoming president since the 19th century… [emphasis added]

Chris Hayes interviewed Anna Galland of MoveOn.org:

Yes, we need to come together to resist!.

Keith Olbermann offers some sage advice.

He said to keep reminding all that Trump lost the election.  He said to stop appeasing the cretins that supported Trump.  They are too stupid to be appeased.  He said we should never call Trump President.

Trump is not President elect.  It is resident to be!

Not My President!

  1. The Electoral College first began to go off the rails in 1911, with the Apportionment Act of 1911, which took effect with the 63rd Congress on March 4, 1913.  Not that the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 helped!  From that moment, or those moments, the Electoral College, whose numbers are fixed based on the size of Congress, started to drift farther and farther from the popular majority.  And it will not get better by itself.  It will only contiinue to get worse.

Republicans can see this just as well as I can, and they are not going to give up easily.  Regardless whether we attempt to abolish it via a Constitutional Amendment, or try to go through the States, it is going to be an uphill battle all the way.  But it is one that MUST be fought and MUST be won.  I know there are people wondering whether we will ever have a democratic (small d) election again.  But I say, what makes you think that this election was democratic?  What makes you think that any Federal elections since, say, Reagan, was democratic?  I know many people are worried about voter suppression.  But I say, the Electoral College in this election was the biggest suppression of voters in history.  It succeeded in suppressing almost three million voters.  At least.

Keep bringing us Keith, TC.  He seems to me to be the person with the most practical and concrete suggestions.

    RESIST !!

  2. Never "president", never more that just "Trump". That won't be too hard to do as most here are already dong that.

  3. Well, we begin the end. For the first time in my life, I am starting to believe that Revelations may come to pass after all.

I'll try to get back to the vids in a little bit. My old man is hungry and I gotta cook.

    • I always figured the world would end, but I never thought it would be in my lifetime.  Robert Frost:

"Some say the world will end in fire,/ Some say in ice./ From what I’ve tasted of desire/ I hold with those who favor fire./ But if it had to perish twice,/ I think I know enough of hate/ To say that for destruction ice/ Is also great/ And would suffice."

    • And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Trump, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

  4. I had no doubt how the electoral college would vote.  Trump as Keith says probably will commit treason, let's see if our brave Congress does anything about it,

  5. "A direct popular vote would treat all Americans equally, no matter where they live… " and that is how it should work!

    RESIST!!!!!

  6. The Electoral College is , without question, a degeneration moral turpitude group of people within its organization.

The Electoral College must go away, consigned permanently, into the ash heap of history where it belongs.
