My shoulder pain is still quite severe, so please pardon my brevity.  Tomorrow is both a Wendy day, and a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  My Broncos have the evening meditation with the Chiefs.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:11 (average 5:30).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube {TYT Channel): Should There Be a Recount?

Cenk described my feelings exactly. All three states would have to flip to change the results, and I don’t think that will happen, but any chance is better than none.

From NY Times: There are not many issues on which Europe, Russia and China all agree, but there is one: ensuring that President-elect Donald J. Trump does not undermine the Iran nuclear deal.

There are legitimate grounds for concern that the incoming administration or Congress will sabotage the deal, which Mr. Trump has referred to as a “disaster” and vowed to “dismantle.” The president-elect has also surrounded himself with people like Rudolph W. Giuliani and John R. Bolton, both mentioned as potential secretary of state picks, who have said they want an immediate end to the deal and called for regime change in Iran. Mr. Trump’s pick to lead the C.I.A., Mike Pompeo, recently wrote on Twitter, “I look forward to rolling back this disastrous deal with the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism.”

In the process the Fuhrer and Republican Reich will guarantee that we face a nuclear armed Iran that is even more hostile to the US five to ten years in the future, unless the Fuhrer plays ping pong with the nuclear football.

From The Nation: Fidel Castro is dead at 90. He took power in 1959, at the head of the joyful, raucous, and brash Cuban Revolution, which was immediately placed under siege by Washington. Castro almost outlasted 11 US presidents—Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, and passing in the waning days of Obama’s last term. Perhaps he just couldn’t bear the thought of President Donald Trump. Having been sanctimoniously lectured by all 11 US presidents on what constitutes proper democratic procedure, he might have thought Trump, about to take office with a minority  of the vote and with significant voter suppression, a vindication.

Fidel was a President.  Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten is just a resident.

  1. It's not obvious that the US could unilaterally kill the Iran nuclear deal.  The deal was basically that Iran gave up its nuclear-weapons program and the US and other countries lifted economic sanctions.  The US could re-impose sanctions, but we don't trade with Iran much anyway, so if other countries didn't go along, what the US did by itself wouldn't have much effect.

Here is an Iranian blogger's view:

  2. YT: Getting rid of the EC would be great!! Might as well do it, (recount), and see what happens..wouldn't hurt.

The Nation: "Having dodged by some counts 639 assassination attempts by Washington, Castro is finally at rest." Castro's nightmare of Trump being in office might have  been too too much.

Cartoon: Awww…leftovers can be just as delicious as the main meal, imho.

Maybe you should get your shoulder checked out. Sounds painful. Get some rest, gotta run. Take care,  Thanks, Tom.

  3. 4:49 On the laptop with the wrong glasses (actually with no glasses – I took the wrong ones off)  TC, I just cannot imagine how you do it.

Recount – Firstly, I am very glad that process in the three targeted states has been initiated by Stein backed by grassroots voters – because it makes it harder for them to portray Clinton as a power-hungry witch and a sore loser.  They will try, but it will be harder to get away with it.  That said, I think it's also good that the Clinton campaign will participate.

No one expects any change in overakk ekection results.  But the recounts should be done anyway.

NYT: – OK, I;m not saying ths is funny, but there is some irony here:

It's not just Americans who can be gullible.

Nation – The converastion I was just having about this was that, since WWII (I grant tht was necessary and right), all the guys my government was telling me were the bad guys were really the good guys, and vice versa.  And, worse than that, my government was actively working to give more power to the bad guys and take it away from the good guys.  I submit:  The School of the Americas (now called WHINSEC).  IMO, if the election of Trump killed Fidel, that alone is enough to make Trump a murderer.

Cartoon – So glad there are nice leftovers.  I can hear the purr from here.

    • Be careful with TRNN.  That site has zero credibility.

      • Well, it has Chomsky and Howard Zinn.  I would put it at about 20-25%.  But this was just too ironic not to share.  It may not be true – but, if it is, who did they think he was going to put in the Cabinet?   Suzy Creamcheese?  Incidentally, I looked for TRNN on the list of propaganda sites you linked to today, and it isn't there.  Truthout is there.  I have been considering them roughly equivalent – in other words, everything has to be checked.  (On the other hand, Bratfart also isn't there.  Go figure.)

        • I'm surprised it wasn't.  It was ab anti-Hillary pro-Stein site that regularly embedded RT and other Russian propaganda.  I agree about Breitfart,

  4. TYT: Cenk gets it right.  No evidence, thus far, let's go have a looksee.  Those electronic voting machines, are they made by Clearwater, or an affiliate thereof?  Clearwater being Mitt Romney's company, it may not quite be paranoid to look into that potential connection. Does that make me paranoid?  Well, there once was a poster in a shop in Greenwich Village, N.Y., that read: "Just because you are paranoid, that does not mean they are not out to get you."  Would I put ANYTHING beyond the insidious GOPigs?  Who was it (maybe is it) that the Rat Bastard, Karl Rove worked (works) for?  Roger Ailles is on whose team?

NYT: Upend the Iran deal?  Work to ruin the legacy of the Obama presidency?  Find new reasons to fund the Military Industrial Complex?  And do so even more intensely? Naah, they wouldn't do that, would they?

The Nation: There are times in which some people may feel a legitimate right to celebrate the passing of certain somebodies: J. Edgar? Scalia? I'm not Cuban, and there may be some, particularly in Cuba, who are really sorrowful at his passing.  I am glad he lived to see the (thus far) easing of relations.  It appears that he may well have done things to benefit the Island, and those that live there.

  5. Youtube , TYT:  I am all for a recount, if we can get enough electoral votes on recount to change the results.  The popular vote should do it, but won't unless the ec chooses,.

NY Times:  Trump and his crew are determined to undermine this deal, and if they do, we will probably face nuclear wars from Iran.

The Nation:  Trump is a Castro wannabe.

Cartoon :  This is why my cats have never been fed from the table.

  6. Puzzle — 3:52  I love jellies . . . or rather I did.  (Sigh)

Youtube — Cenk makes very valid points.  I don't like the results of the election, but short of all out fraud, it must be respected.  Likewise, if the recounts show a change, those numbers must be respected.  If the recount flips the results of all 3 states, which I highly doubt, then Drumpf, who pledged not to accept the outcome if he did not win, must also accept them and concede the election.

NY Times — And voters thought Clinton was a hawk . . . these guys are worse and deranged imo.

"There is a good chance that after intelligence briefings show him how United States security interests have benefited from it, Mr. Trump will come to realize the importance of keeping the nuclear deal intact."

That presumes that Trump actually accepts the briefings, which so far he has had 2 out of 14 I believe.  IMO. Drumpf is in over his head!

The Nation — Amazing that the US is the primary detractor of Castro.  Given what Republicans have unleashed, and what they are likely to unleash on US citizens over the next 4 years, the US is not in a place to outright denounce Castro.  Already Cruz and Rubio have denounced Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.  Cruz: ""Disgraceful," Cruz tweeted of Trudeau's remarks. "Why do young socialists idolize totalitarian tyrants? Castro, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot — all evil, torturing murderers.""  Reuters had reactions from a number of countries.

Cartoon — I think your eyes are bigger than your tummy on this one Puddy Tat!

  7. Sorry about your frozen shoulder still giving you so much pain, TomCat. I hope it'll subside without you having to go for another shot like you did last year. I also hope it doesn't prevent you from enjoying the game.

YT(TYTC): Cenk is spot on. Don't panic, but do not be weak either, make the best of opportunities given and see what happens. But don't jump to conclusions and don't try to force your hand. Go high.

NYT: Again, this is not about America. First of all, if America backs out of the deal it has helped broker, it'll worsen the situation in the Middle East even further, possibly giving Iran's enemies, Saudi Arabia and Israel, the opportunity to restart and escalate animosity. Remember that pressure from Israel (and the Saudis?) is one of the main reasons to back out. Iran may not have a choice other than restart its nuclear program, simply because Israel has nuclear weapons too. Furthermore, if escalates, it will escalate in the Middle East first, and with Russia already in the mix there, there's no way of telling what would happen next. By that time America would have lost the last morsel of respect it had in the world, but that would matter little by that time.

Nation: Oh please, is everything about Trump now? Castro played a major role in the world history of the 20th century, both good and bad. I'd rather talk about that.

    Cartoon: So there were leftovers?

  8. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
