At last election day has come.  Last night I was so exhausted that I went to bed at 6:00 PM and did not get up until 5:00 AM.  If you are a US citizen, and haven't, please vote.  If you don't, Republican government is exactly what what you deserve.  Even a Trump voter rates more respect than you do.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today's took me 3:02 (average 5:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Delivering her closing argument of the 2016 campaign, Hillary Clinton has replaced her campaign slogan, “Stronger Together,” with a new one, “Won’t Blow Up Planet.”

According to Clinton-campaign sources, the new slogan is designed to appeal to suburban women, a group of voters that has historically opposed blowing up the planet.

Clinton launched the slogan at a campaign appearance in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she told supporters, “On Day One of my Administration, I will work for you. I will fight for you. And I will not blow up the planet.”

That's on-the-ball reporting, Andy. The distinction between the two candidates on that issue is clear.

From NY Times: Hispanic voters were largely credited with President Obama’s victory in 2012, but they weren’t as crucial as many believed. Mr. Obama didn’t even need to win the Hispanic vote to put him over the top, thanks to high black turnout and support among white voters in the North. The turnout among Hispanic voters didn’t surge, even though exit polls implied that it had.

This year, Hispanic voters, perhaps motivated by Donald J. Trump’s policy proposals (including deportation) and harsh language aimed at undocumented Hispanic immigrants, really might decide this election.

Early voting data unequivocally indicates that Hillary Clinton will benefit from a long awaited surge in Hispanic turnout, vastly exceeding the Hispanic turnout from four years ago.

It’s too soon to say whether it will be decisive for her. The geographic distribution of Hispanic voters means that many of her gains will help her in noncompetitive states like Texas and California, not Michigan and Pennsylvania.

But the surge is real, and it’s big.

I hope Republicans never learn that people will fight back when subjected to organized hatred and violence, because eventually, folks will realize that Republicans are subjecting them to such hatred unless they are wearing a &1,000+ suit, a sheet and hood, or a swastika.

From YouTube (Full Frontal Channel): Don't Fuck This Up

Amen Sam! America, don't fuck this up!

  1. 4:44  Oh, it's from Madagascar.  I suppose that means it's in danger.  Sigh.

TNY – The distinction is clear to me.  I'm afraid it's not so clear to everyone.

NYT – Not sure I have your faith that eventually folks will realize.  Stockholm syndrome is in the way of realization, as is the Republican ownership of all the MSM.  But I do see some results this year.  BTW, the Washington Post, which has a 5-article-a-month paywall, has taken the paywall down just for election coverage today.  This may be very handy.

YouTube/FF – Right on.  Alternet has a show with her explaining Hillary haters – and the comments are bringing out the very same Hillary haters – who are incoherent.

Cartoon – Can't say it better.

  2. Tuesday, November 8, 2016 | Election Day From Funny or Die, "Holy Sh*t (You've got to Vote)" LOVE THIS VIDEO! Great message. Highly recommended. (CC)

  3. TNY: No, not the planet, but how about the NRA headquarters, and that of the RNC?  I can hope, can't I?

NYT: Keeping finger crossed…it's ok, I voted already.

Smantha: What a cogent point!  Oh for my youngest grandkid to be able to ask, years from now, "Trump what?"

  4. TNYer: Amen to that! Andy.

FF: 'DFTU', like that rallying cry!

Cartoon: Yea, not sleeping good tonight!

Anyone see the SNL skit with Kate and Alec last Saturday? Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxH6bKNPBIA

Get some rest, Tom, it's gonna be a long night! Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. My trip to the polls today was its usual easy-peasy act of patriotic duty.

Took about 30-45  minutes, including a 5-minute car drive to get there (and 5 more back).  There were 14 voting booths – some at tables, which made it easier because this year we got to fill in the oval like our SAT & ACT tests.  Our ballot was longer than legal-size, and had two sides to fill out.  All those "Retain this judge" ones and quite a few Amendments.

Don't plan to, but if you show your "I Voted" sticker at 7-Eleven you can get FREE coffee – or a FREE donut at Krispy Kreme.

  6. Puzzle — 3:14  A prickly looking thing isn't it!

FF — Well I had a relatively easy week and went up 2 places.  Playing w/o a helmet had a bunch of byes in the lineup which crippled his score.  I won't be so lucky this week as I play the 'jock' this week.  Half the league is at 4-5-0.

The New Yorker — Amen!  I was in a discussion last week with someone who favours Drumpf — a Drumpfolyte!  He could not understand why I would support Clinton when she is so hawkish.  I reminded him that Drumpf is the one that 1) wants to use nuclear weapons — why have them if you don't use them; and 2) he wants countries such as Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia to have nukes.  The Drumpfolytes have no idea of the damage nukes will do to the planet.  I reminded him of Chernobyl and the prevailing atmospheric winds.  Still didn't get it.  What a cretin!

NY Times — I read an article yesterday about early voting in Texas.  According to the article, early voting in Hispanic areas is lower than that in other areas.  But then the comment was made that the Latinos tend to vote on election day.  I sure hope that that is correct and they are not being blocked from voting.  I also wish that I could be there and be an escort, not unlike the people that escort women trough the protesters at Planned Parenthood.  I see myself bigfooting those Republican thugs like the insects they are!

    Youtube — AMen!!!

Cartoon — I wish I could but alas, foreigners are not allowed to vote . . . and I'm not giving up my Canadian healthcare just to be able to vote there!

    GET OUT THE VOTE!

    DON'T BE COMPLACENT!!

VOTE BLUE ALL DOWN THE LINE!!!

Have a good nap!  I could not sleep last night no matter how I tried.  Finally fell asleep at about 600 h.  I have a meeting at 1700 h and won't be home til about 2000 h.  I'll check back in then.

  7. The New Yorker:  Good one, Andy.

NY Times:  I turned off the tv at 10pm because the race was too close to count and I couldn't bear it any longer.  Surely our country as a whole, is not dumb enough to elect Trump!

Samantha Bee:  I was hoping we all could forget who he was!

Cartoon:  I did, always have, always will.

  8. I'm sorry, TomCat, but I'm not in the mood for Andy or Samantha now. I may get back to them later.

  9. Such a disheartening day. Wednesday has turned in to "Down the Rabbit Hole" for the US! God only knows what he is going to be like in office!

    • Most world leaders are  horrified by the election result,( except) Putin!. Many  Americans are depressed.

Please follow the British the Late and GREAT Sir Winston Churchill, whose Mantra was "NEVER GIVE UP" and he held

this through W.W.2, and it worked. !  this is not a time to surrender to this ignorant bully.
