Last week several of you expressed the hope that I could share Bill Maher's interview with Barack Obama on Real Time. I can and shall, but if you saw it on TV, watch anyway, because this is the full version, about twice as long as the televised one. But first, Bill takes on Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian Bible Trumpers.
This is the first time Bill has discussed Religion, when, in addition to laughing at him, I have agreed with virtually everything he said, with one small exception. Jesus would have recognized Trump. Then he would have braided cords to make a lash and driven him out of the temple with the rest of the Republican Party. Authentic Christians are not Trump Supporters.
President Obama: FULL INTERVIEW
I can't remember another interviewer that has done such an effective job in drawing Obama out on the topics on which they disagreed. I don't agree with either 100%, but major kudos to both!
Vote Blue!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
In the America of today, ISN'T it refreshing to see two incredibly intelligent people, both of whom, for different reasons, can be and have been lightning rods for disagreement, talk, not agree on everything, and be so POLITE. I'm sure everyone knows that I have opinions, strong opinions, but with all of that, it's still the politeness that strikes me here.
Bible Thumpers: Re:Trump. "He's the Devil!". I agree.
POTUS: What a wonderful video. Such an eloquent speaker. Passing/saving this. I'm going to miss our President!
I early voted. Did I tell you that BLUE is my favorite color?
Thanks, Tom.
No, Bill Maher didn't think he'd ever hear himself say it and neither did I: "Let's hear it for the Mormones." ROTFLMAO. They are one of the few denominations amongst the Evangelists who don't vote for Drumpf just because the GOP tells them to. Apparently they don't believe Drumpf is one of them. Most of the others march to the drum of their hypocritical leaders like the good little pseudo-Christian soldiers they are.
As a progressive, Bill brought up all the right topics with Obama: socialism, the media, health care, religion, pot, food purity, the necessity of being an empire (military spending), all the issues that were sorely missing from the debates and never seem to reach Congress these days. I was very impressed with both of them. They didn't agree on all topics – but didn't have major opposing viewpoints either – but there was a mutual respect and that is how it should be.
I liked Bill's remark on getting money out of the news business and Obama's point on the need to get a common baseline of facts, an agreement on facts. Later Obama added that there were too many filters in place: "Look, if I watch Fox News I wouldn't vote for me either". Good point.
Overall Obama seemed a little guarded to me, and it made him come across less progressive, but that may be be because this interview took place just a week before the before the election. Only towards the end of the interview he became less bipartisan.
Thanks for posting both video's, TomCat. Very worthwhile watching.
So glad to see differing opinions not resulting in cussing and yelling!
Bible Trumpers! LMAO!
The interview with Obama was great . . . respectful dialogue, some humour, a whole lot of truth. Obama deserves an award for having to put up with obstructionist, do nothing Republicans for 8 years!
I think that Obama hit on the major reason for the extreme divisiveness evident in the US today . . . there are too many filters in place and a lack of critical thinking. Too many people have lost the ability, if they ever had it, to see issues from multiple angles, discuss sanely, and then come to a consensus.
Thanks all! Big Rush! Hugs!
Obama is so intelligent, sane, conversational. He seems to be there to talk, not pontificate. Critical thinking is what the GOPigs want to tamp down. People like Rand Paul, who have advocated doing away with the Dep't of Education, are after destroying what is left of the ability to think, and possibly discount, what the Faux News types put out. Obama did not address the financial side of "Empire," but there does seem to be something to his comments about the U.S.'s presence being "necessary" in numerous ways. I will miss this man!
Damn, you think he could get me typing lessons?
Don't sweat it – I've seen much, much worse.
