I’ll be leaving in a few minutes for my PCP appointment with Megan.  She’ll call in a prescription to my mail order pharmacy and I’ll have a new med for nerve pain by Tuesday or Wednesday.  Light at the end of the tunnel looks so good.  I apologize for mot reminding out fantasy football players about last night’s game between the Jets and the Bills.  I’ve been so busy that I forgot to check the schedule.  I know that I caught me, as I failed to plug-in the wide receiver I intended to start.  It cost me 15 fantasy points.  ARGH!!  I’ll finish this when I return.  This is my only article today.

I’m back.  Megan put me on Cymbalta, so if I start promoting Rump Dump Trump, that’s why.  I think it might help with the nerve pain, if it doesn’t make me crazy… um… crazier.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:43 (average 4:38).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (H/T KP Daily Funnies): Pinksourcing With Kristen Bell | Celebs Have Issues Ep. 1

Sadly, it’s damn accurate!

From Daily Kos: The NRA recently launched an ad portraying Missouri Democratic Senate candidate Jason Kander as weak on gun rights, which is usually an effective argument in conservative states like this. But Kander’s must-see response commercial is one for the books.

The evil incumbent, Roy Blunt (R-MO) is up 3.4 points in the polls. I’d love to see him get his Ammosexual butt kicked.

From NY Times: In an alarming victory for the gun lobby, Missouri’s Republican-controlled Legislature voted Wednesday to override Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto and enact a wholesale retreat from gun safety in the state.

The law will let citizens carry concealed weapons in public without a state gun permit, criminal background check or firearms training. It strips local law enforcement of its current authority to deny firearms to those guilty of domestic violence and to other high-risk individuals. And it establishes a dangerous “stand your ground” standard that will allow gun owners to shoot and claim self-defense based on their own sense of feeling threatened.

The author is correct to call MO the "Shoot Me" State.

  1. Kander my guy – and has gotte my money!

Think I mentioned that I picked up Kander, Koster (Governor) and Hillary/Kaine bumper stickers at the Democratic Headquarters in Independence.  The Kander & Koster ones were free, and the Hillary/Kaine were $3 or 2/$5 – I opted for the two.  I also picked up a Hillary/Kaine yard sign ($5) – but haven't put it up yet.  I had too many tire tracks through the yard w/ the Obama ones, so I'm a bit hesitant.

Also got a Hillary bumper magnet from her website – but it will be a couple of weeks before it gets here.  That way it's easy to remove so as to avoid vandalism to the car.

Not that those "fine" "wholesome" "christian" "God-fearing" Trump supporters would ever stoop so low and resort to something so vile.

  2. KPDF: Yea, so very, very true, unfortunately. ;-(

DK: And blindfolded!! WTG, Mr. Kander!

NYT: This is not good. I am sure that my state is frothing at the mouth over this. How unfortunate!

Hope your new med helps you. Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 3:24  Well, not quite so tied up this time.  (The same 3 digits as TC's score, just in a diffferent order – does that count?)

KPDF/YT – Thhe entire plot of "9 to 5" in two minutes and eight seconds.  Nothing has chnged.

DKos – Daily Kos Elections has picked this as the best political ad ever, and I agree.  I have already watched it several times, and am not through yet.  Nameless,  get out that vote!

NY Times – Ummm – not THAT vote.  Good luck, Nameless.

Cartoon – I can't see it here, but can on the Care2 page, so I can say well done, Canada, for hosting it.

Since the gabapentin took a while to clear your system, I assume the Cymbalta will take a while to build up?  How long before you will know if it's working?

  4. Damn. Kristen Bell was painfully on point there! When are the women going to get PAID for the same work men do?

WOW!!! That was a great commercial for Kander. Wonder if the opposition will take him up on his challenge? Doubt it!

MO. is worse than OK? WOW!!! I thought we were the ones living in the early 19th century! I guess that any state get loopier of they try hard enough!!!

Cartoon didn't load, but I'm sure I will love it when I get a chance to read it!

    Thanks for the post, TC!

  5. I hope the Cymbalta helps your pain.

Just added Mo to the list of states I no longer want to visit.

  6. Puzzle — 2:52  Not quite enough rope with which to hang myself.

KP Daily Funnies — Sad but too true.

Daily Kos — It is no secret that I am not a fan of the 2nd amendment as I think its intended meaning by the framers of the Constitution has been screwed, glued and tatooed.  However, Kander's ad is excellent in that it challenges Blunt while still playing to the "terrorist threat" même that seems so prevalent in many areas.  Interesting how so many Republican politicians of a certain age never served in the military courtesy of various deferments.

NY Times — Welcome to the wild, wild west!  My condolences to the sane people of Missouri!

Cartoon — I was trying to confirm something about the Montréal Protocol and noted that Wikipedia has it signed 26/08/1987 and coming into force 26/08/1989.  There are a few discrepancies in the dates, or at least I think so.  However, the intent to limit certain substances affecting the ozone has done a lot.  However carbon emmissions are another matter.

  7. I hadn't heard of Cymbalta yet, and when reading up on it, that turned out to be because it's a relative newcomer on the European market. It seems to be the most effective medication for neuropathic pain to date, even though this is a secondary form of application, administered first and foremost for depression. So you may be in luck, TomCat. It may take both your phantom pains away and help you to combat the black mood brought on by the all to real onslaught of Republicans led by Drumpf 😉 But as far as I can see it won't be of any help with playing fantasy football better. You're on your own there, my feline pal.

KPDF: "Will also work for compliments", that's about as cheap as you can get when paying for women's labor these days. Sadly most "male" companies know exactly how to (ab)use all the other legislation, tricks, customs and myths to keep the women on low pay, but can't be bothered to employ the "compliment trick". They probably don't need to.

DK combined with NYT: Sorry, I simply do not get impressed by seeing anyone deftly handling an assault weapon. However, I could understand the appeal it may have to many voters in Missouri as an answer to Blunt's allegations of being weak on guns. But after reading the next article by the NYT I needed to come back to this comment. Despite public opposition Missouri Republicans have voted to override Gov. Dixon's (a Democrat) veto  and enact a WHOLESALE retreat from gun safety: literally anyone can now wear a concealed weapon and has upgraded it's "stand your ground" standards. Gun owners can now shoot and claim it was self defense because they had a sense of feeling threatened; which of course they always have because anyone could be packing now. This overruling of the veto got little attention in the media but things were even worse than that: "Republican legislative leaders, who cut short debate on the override vote on the last day of the session, were ebullient in overriding a variety of the governor’s vetoes beyond the gun measure, including one that will force voters to show a government photo ID." To an outsider's eye it looks like Republicans in Missouri are aiming to be ready for a war between cops, white communities and communities of color as soon as Donald Drumpf gets into the White House. Jason Kander may not have an ad to my liking, but I do hope that the people of Missouri will not let themselves be intimidated by the Republican bullying in their state and vote Blue for Clinton, Kander and every other office down the line.

Cartoon: One down (ozone levels are back up again), but many more (Co2 emissions, methane emissions, microscopic particle emissions…) to go.

    • Lona the NRA had labled him as a gun-hating weakling, when he is a combat veteran and Blunt is a three deferment ChickenHawk.

    • As TC says, the beauty of the ad is that it targets the core audience perfectly, paints his opponent as the liar and braggart he is, and gets in a plug for background checks (which 79% of EVERYONE in Missouri favor).  And no yelling and no insults.  It would not work for everyone but it is pluperfect for this race.

    • I think I muddled my sentence in the end: "However, I could understand the appeal it may have to many voters in Missouri as an answer to Blunt's allegations of being weak on guns." That should have read "strong on gun control", but I thought that would have been clear from the rest of my comment. But it doesn't mean I have to like seeing or be impressed by someone expertly handling a AK-15; it gives me the creeps no matter what side they're on (sorry, Joanne) 😉

  8. Thanks all.  Woozy hugs!!

  9. KP Daily:  Very well put together, accurate even!  I can just see abunch of back room GOPiggies going "Yeah, that's the ticket!"

    DK: Marvelous ad!!!

NY T: Bunch of bozos!!!  "Show me," to "Shoot me," just a minor spelling change, what the hell?
