I was so very tired that I overslept this morning.  The first thing I noticed was the quiet.  Looking out my window, I saw that all the heavy equipment is gone, so I’m hoping that means that they’re done for good, not just for the weekend.  After breakfast, I slept most of the morning, and feel ready to sleep some more as soon as my articles are up.  Please take care.  Republicans often drive as insanely as they vote.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:15 (average 4:41).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Media Matters: New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman reported in his September 2 cover story on the fall of Fox News chairman Roger Ailes:

Fox News also obtained the phone records of journalists, by legally questionable means. According to two sources with direct knowledge of the incident, Brandi, Fox’s general counsel, hired a private investigator in late 2010 to obtain the personal home- and cell-phone records of Joe Strupp, a reporter for the liberal watchdog group Media Matters. (Through a spokesperson, Brandi denied this.) In the fall of that year, Strupp had written several articles quoting anonymous Fox sources, and the network wanted to determine who was talking to him. “This was the culture. Getting phone records doesn’t make anybody blink,” one Fox executive told me.

I think Media Matters and Strupp could (and should) unbalance the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, with a lawsuit to make their bank account several $million lighter.

From Daily Kos: The Clinton campaign lays out the contrast between what Donald Trump—with an eager assist from media outlets like the New York Times—has been falsely accusing the Clinton Foundation of doing and what the Trump Foundation really did do:

"Donald Trump has been falsely attacking the charity run by President Clinton when it is Trump’s own Foundation that has been caught in an actual pay-to-play scandal.

"While the Clinton Foundation has received the highest ratings from independent charitable watchdogs, Donald Trump’s use of foundation money to donate to the Florida Attorney General actually broke the law. Worst of all, it appears the payment may have been intended to stave off an investigation into the sham Trump University that has ripped off unsuspecting students.

"Donald Trump has no standing whatsoever to question the Clinton Foundation, which works to make AIDS and malaria drugs more accessible, when it’s been proven he uses his own foundation to launder illegal campaign donations."

There you have it. This criminal quid quo pro bribery from Trump is so typical of how the Republican Party projects their own crimes onto their opponents.

From Think Progress: Arizona Republicans, who are scrambling to help Sen. John McCain win the “fight of his political life,” unveiled a poster this week depicting the face of McCain’s Democratic challenger surrounded by bullet holes.

The Wild West-themed poster accuses Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) — who is polling neck and neck with McCain — of not holding enough public events during her campaign.

The image has outraged many in the state, as it comes just five years after another Arizona Democratic congresswoman was shot in the head at a public event.

Former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ), who survived the attempted assassination in 2011 but remains partially paralyzed with limited speech, joined the chorus of voices demanding the state GOP remove the “irresponsible” poster and apologize.

This one is even more blatant than the one Bloody Bullseye Barbie used to inspire Jared Lee Loughner, the defective Republican terrorist that shot Gabby.

  1. 4:56  Guess I'm not going there.

I do hope they are through.  But at the very least you have three days.  Yay!

MM – Media Matters does good work.  I'd love to see a gloriiously successful lawsuit too.

DKos – Everyone projects a little.  It's not even a bad thing.  The forst step in empathy is figuring our how you feel, or would feel.  But only the first step.  Republicans all take it too far.  Drumpf takes it where no man has ever gone before.  It's really quite enlightening as a window into his mind.  (I would say "into his soul," but that would presume he has one.)

TP – Literally the ONLY silver lining in this is that it is a sign that Ann is gaining ground.  I hope that's true, and I hope she now gains more from it.  I don't need a lindslide.  I'll be happy with a win.

Cartoon – Well now, that's a little known fact.  (I almost said "little known and less appreciated fact," which is hubby's phrase, but I know it is appreciated here.)

  2. MM: WTG, 'Bring it'!! on!

DK: Lies, lies and more lies. Ugh!!!

TP: How low can one go?? Pretty low. I wish Ms. Kirkpatrick nothing but the best.

    Cartoon: Awesome picture!!

Hope that you have a quiet couple days at least. It's raining again here. Not complaining, as this time, 5 years ago was the Labor Day weekend fires here. Hope that you get some rest. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Puzzle — 3:11 No horsie fricassée today Puddy Tat!

Media Matters — Ain't life a bitch!  When you play with fire as Faux Noise appears to have done in keeping with Murdock's phone hacking experience, you are going to get burned!  May Media Matters and Strupp beat Faux Noise's Goliath!  Rupert needs to lose some weight anyway.

Daily Kos —  Can you say projection?  Drumpf uses projection and uses a big noisy drum to deflect attention away from himself.  Drumpf has no acquaintance with the truth.

Think Progress — Didn't Joe Walsh, a Teabagger has been, advocate taking out Obama a while back?  It seems that if Republicans don't get their way, they opt for a shut 'em up.  The trouble is, there are extremists and mentally unbalanced individuals who will act on such suggestions, no matter how nuanced.  McCain needs to retire.  Let's hope that Kirkpatrick kicks him to the curb with the rest of the trash.

Cartoon — And they didn't have the protective equipment that players have today!

  4. More info WRT that interesting football field, puh-leaz!

  5. Wow. That video was thoroughly unsettling. If Rump Dump Drumpf is doing that and talking about Hillary the way he does, there's no telling what he has in his tax returns!!!

  6. Glad you are getting some peace and quiet.

Media Matters:  I hope they file and win a huge settlement for this violation of privacy by Faux news.

Daily Kos:  Even though the Clinton Foundation has proved they were not committing wrong or illegal deeds, the media have kept the story going.  More is said about her foundation than Trumps which has been clearly shown to committing illegal acts.  It seems the media are really supporting Trump.

Think Progress:  Given what happened to Giffords, you would think someone in the Republican group might have said "this is a bad idea".

Cartoon:  And look where this little recognized sport (at the time) has gone! Zillionaires.

  7. No wonder you overslept, TomCat. The street below your window suddenly had become quite peaceful and quiet; perfect for catching up on some slumber. You're very wise to allow yourself all the sleep you need. Enjoy the quiet as much as possible this holiday weekend!

MM: Having the phone records of journalists working for Media Matters hacked by a private investigator is all too reminiscent of the way Murdoch's media operated in Britain and for which the Murdochs and their ilk were successfully prosecuted. How imbecilic that Faux News thought it would get away with it in America. It shows how far removed from reality the executives and the whole network really are. I hope they're hit really hard with a lawsuit and then go the way of the GOP they so staunchly support: complete disintegration.

DK: The way Drumpf misuses his "charity" foundation for illegal political donations stinks to high heaven so Drumpf takes the GOP manual written specifically for such cases and points his finger at the blameless Clinton Foundation, thinking this will work as a diversion from his own illegal actions. Drumpf obviously has no idea how disliked and distrusted he is, even in his own party – and his inflated ego and narcissism will never allow to have it sink in – and refuses to accept that investigators have been ardently and successfully digging up dirt on him. He refuses to see that all his "clever" business tricks and all the standard GOP tactics are working against him, that most people see right through him and ant new accusations against Hillary Clinton only make them look harder at the cesspool of Drumpf's own making. Sadly his voters are as blind as he is, refuse to accept reality and will continue to accept it even past the election.

TP: After all that Drumpf had said and done in the primaries, including a very personal attack on himself, McCain embraced Drumpf as the next Republican presidential candidate, so it's not very surprising to see McCain adopt these Drumpfian tactics to keep his seat. Depicting Ann Kirkpatrick as an outlaw wanted for being a (loyal)  member of the Obama-Clinton posse in a bullet riddled "wanted" poster is insensitive, despicable and scraping the barrel in desperation. Let's hope faith has the same in store for McCain as it has for Drumpf: the annihilation of a political career.

Cartoon: In 1897 eight Australian Rules Football ('Footy') clubs in Victoria withdrew from the amateur league to form a professional league: the Victorian Football League. Now there's a men's sport that's so much more appealing to ladies' eyes. 😉

  8. Thanks all!  Hugs!!  Rushing, because my schedule is fouled up.

  9. Media Matters: What, a rupert Murdoch organization using illegal means to gather information it has no business knowing? Never!  Well that is if you delete/ignore the previous epsodes.  DeJa Vu, allover again.  May they be prosecuted into oblivion!

DK: In psychology it is called "Projection," and Rumpy, and the GOPigs have honed it to a fine point.  "I, no, you, are a liar, are crooked,…!"  So, can someone tell me when the indictment might come down?????  I believe that HIS Narcissism, is going to wind up opening so damn many cans of worms, skeletons in his closets ( and he probably has many of both), as he pushes on in pursuit of still more attention.  It will belimeshooting himself in both feet, simultaneous with pulling the trigger on the shotgun stuck up his ass!

TP: Talk about guns!  If Arizona sends that jackass back to the senate, it will be the first time that local black holes have been found by science, this one will eat the state and piss it down  worm hole!
