I spent the morning collecting the data and preparing the graphics for tomorrow’s Monthly Report.  That part actually takes considerably more time than writing the article.  I’m feeling quite tired, as I’ve been unable to nap.  When the weather started to cool, the city began a street repair project right below me.  For the last four days the noise has been deafening almost continuously from sunup to sundown.  Often there have been multiple jackhammers going at once.  ARGH!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:10 (average 4:55).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Donald Trump’s immigration speech on Wednesday night was described here as “fascism in it’s [sic] purest, most vile form, slathered in an unbroken stream of lies,” while most in the media tip-toed around, trying to explain it all away. So, who was praising the speech?

There was the former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan:

A noted white supremacist and the founder of American Renaissance:

The editors of the white supremacist website VDARE:

In addition, Trump lied about his conversation with Peña Nieto. The Mexican President told him that he would not pay for Trump’s wall!

From NY Times: A deadlocked Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to revive parts of a restrictive North Carolina voting law that a federal appeals court had struck down as an unconstitutional effort to “target African Americans with almost surgical precision.”

The court was divided 4 to 4, with the court’s more conservative members voting to revive parts of the law. The court’s brief order included no reasoning.

North Carolina’s law, which imposed an array of voting restrictions, including new voter identification requirements, was enacted by the state’s Republican-controlled legislature in 2013. It was part of a wave of voting restrictions enacted after a 5-to-4 Supreme Court decision that effectively struck down a central part of the federal Voting Rights Act, weakening federal oversight of voting rights.

Challenges to the laws have met with considerable success in recent months, and Wednesday’s development suggested that the current eight-member Supreme Court is not likely to undo those victories.

We so need to dump Reichsfuhrer Roberts, Scalito, TEAbag Thomas, and Ku Klux Kennedy, all of whom voted against the Constructional right to vote.

From The Rachel Maddow Show: Trump anti-immigrant speech follows dark pattern of US history

Rachel Maddow shows how throughout American history, when normal politics breaks down, fringe voices gain prominence scapegoating immigrant groups. Duration: 16:12

After the Whig Party disappeared, a new progressive party sprung up to the left of the Democratic Party, and that Republican Party was wonderful, until it was coopted by Banksters, shifted right, and began the long slide to become the vile Reich it now is. It is my hope that the Republican Party disappears, and afterwards, a new progressive party will spring up to the left of the Democratic Party.

  1. 4:49  They look so much better if the dead heads are pruned out – but the puzzle would likely have been even harder.
    So sorry about the noise!

DKos – Is anyone surprised by this?  Trump may not be the first racist in America, but he is certainly one of the poster boys for racism.  And, of COURSE he lied.  Mexico MIGHT pay for a wall if it is built so as to give them back Arizona, New Mexico
. Colorado, Utah, Nevada and southern Califonia – but I wouldn't even want to swear to that.  (Personally I wish they'd take Texas – but not you, Pat B.)

NYTimes – I would be more comfortable if I had a more solid idea of how voting rights in North Carolina, as determines by the Supreme Court, are going to be enforced.  You can't trust Mcrorystan to do it.

Rachel – From your mouth to God's ears.  (From your keyboard to God's blogroll?)  Whatever it takes.

Cartoon – No additional detail from me.  I find it too upsetting.

  2. Well, unfortunately Mexico did NOT practice Trump’s own ballyhooed formula of “extreme vetting” to keep the lowlifes out, because Donald made it across the border.  Clearly when we send someone to Mexico, we don’t send them our best.

But as long as he was there, Trump thought he’d make it worth his while, and asked to visit a couple of his clothes manufacturing factories.  (Thanks for exporting those jobs, Donnie.)

And echoing Herbert Hoover, he won the Mexican people over by promising them a taco in every bowl.  They were very grateful, as you can see by the “warm” reception he got …

  3. Trump's immigration speech was a national embarrassment.

  4. DK: DT has constantly talked smack, very negative about the people of Mexico.  Negative about everything, really!

Rachel Maddow: Did get the question correct. Great video, passing this on too.

Cartoon: A very dark time of history.

Sorry to read that, road repair is noisy, and relentless. Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. Puzzle — 3:15  Good enough for salad Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — As I said in the poll article:

After his immigration speech yesterday, seems there are Latinos withdrawing their support from Drumpf.  One Texas lawyer who is on Drumpf's advisory board, resigned and will not vote for Drumpf.  He said he'll not vote for Clinton either but instead will concentrate on the down ticket.  http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/politics/following-immigration-speech-hispanic-trump-backers-withdraw-support/ar-AAinwRR?li=AAacUQk&ocid=spartandhp

I wonder if Drumpf thinks he will still win the Latino vote, and for that matter, the black vote.  His speech sure brought out the white sheet brigade!  He is such a despicable little man!

NY Times — As I read this, thank goodness the Appeals Court struck down the restrictive NC voting law.  This is one time when a short court has its advantages.  But without doubt, the fascist four need to be put out of our misery!

TRMS — Interesting that so many, the nativists etc, don't see themselves as immigrants to the continent.  Also, those that would "ship African Americans back to Africa" as I have listened to, fail to remember that it was, for the most part, white Europeans who brought slaves to the US.  I must say, I needed a super-sized barf bag when Drumpf came on.

"It is my hope that the Republican Party disappears, and afterwards, a new progressive party will spring up to the left of the Democratic Party." — AMEN!!!!!

Cartoon — Yes Republicans cheered and now they are following the same fascist plan!

We have had 2 days of rain and cooler temperatures, but I'll not complain!  It is cool enough that my furnace came on so I turned it even lower.  But I still have my fan on!

    • So Mr. Monty "will concentrate on down-ballot."  Too bad he can't see that the down-ballot Republicans are the same on immigration as Trump is.  Oh, well.

  6. It's tiring and tiresome when you can't hear yourself think through the duvet of noise covering you, isn't it, TomCat. I hope for you this road repair project doesn't go the way projects often go: badly and far too long.

I'm using my husbands pad to type in, without speller, some curtesy omment during our stopover, which doesn't make for quiet reading, video watching or forming opinions, so this is all you're going to get for now, I'm fraid.

  7. With all the noise, elevator malfunctions, heat and humidity, don't you think you might want a different apartment?

DK:   Trump has encouraged the slugs to come out from under their rocks and we may never get them to go back.  They are so full of themselves right now, feeling their bigotry, zenophobia, and sexism has been exonerated.  I love that the President of Mexico called him out on his lie.

NY Times:  I am glad they did not reverse the ruling, but it may happen in other cases. I agree, we need to get the four injustice off the Supreme Court.

Rachel Maddow:  I agree with her. I hope she is right and this too will pass.

Cartoon:  The whole world stood by and did nothing for too long.   I hope they don't need to rescue us from a similar fate of those who believed Hitler.

  8. DK:  There are no surprises here, except, perhaps, that he has put his fascism right out there!  His, now, former Hispanic asdvisor suggests that he may simply be laying the groundwork for a Nativist Media enterprise…also no surprise, if that fellow is right.

NYTimes: Sans Scalia (Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Universe, wherever you are!), SCOTUS leans more toward the side of reasonableness; "Surgical precision," indeed!!!!   How about Fucking sick bastards!?

After the Whig Party disappeared, a new progressive party sprung up to the left of the Democratic Party, and that Republican Party was wonderful, until it was coopted by Banksters, shifted right, and began the long slide to become the vile Reich it now is. It is my hope that the Republican Party disappears, and afterwards, a new progressive party will spring up to the left of the Democratic Party.  YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN!
