Wendy has returned to her day job as a Secretary in a school, so my Wednesday fluff, buff and stuff is moving to late afternoon/early evening.  It’s also a grocery delivery day.  They come early/mid afternoon.  So the only time for a commando Lona nap was this morning, and I took it.  Tomorrow I’m meeting with the gals with whom I do volunteer work in prison, and Friday I have an appointment with Megan, my PCP, who has finally returned from maternity leave.  Therefore, it’s likely that I will publish only a Personal Update and send no links messages both days.  The heat is returning.  I was watching Olympics while eating breakfast this morning, and Australia was playing the Netherlands in Beach Volleyball.  I thought of Lona and how that must be difficult for her.

From KP Daily Funnies: Daily Show: Donald Trump Predicts a Rigged Election

Click through to warch the video clip.  The embed code is defective.

Of course it’s funny, but that’s because it touches on reality.

From Crooks and Liars: Joe Scarborough did some serious mansplaining this morning for Mika, saying her opinion meant nothing to Republicans who have to figure out what to do about Donald Trump.

Scarborough sure went into BS mode to cover his Republican sexism. For a minute I thought Mika, Joe’s submissive token Democrat, was actually growing a pair!

From Alternet: A recent analysis of more than 100 industry documents conducted by the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group, has revealed that the oil industry knew of the risks that their business posed to the global climate decades before originally suspected.

It has also long been assumed that, in their efforts to deceive investors and the public about the negative impact their business has on the environment, Big Oil borrowed Big Tobacco’s so-called tactical “playbook.” But, as these documents indicate, that infamous playbook appears to have actually originated within the oil industry itself.

If that is true, it would be highly significant—and damning for Big Oil—because the tactics used by the tobacco industry to downplay the connection between smoking and cancer were eventually deemed to have violated federal racketeering laws by a federal court. The ruling dashed efforts by Big Tobacco to find legal cover under the First Amendment, which just happens to be the same strategy that ExxonMobil and its GOP allies are currently using to defend the company against allegations of fraud. If the playbook was in fact created by the oil and gas industry and then later used by ExxonMobil, it ruins the company’s argument of plausible deniability, making it highly likely that the company violated federal law.

Bring it on!! Sue the bastards, recover the $billions, and invest them in green energy development!!

  1. Funnies: He's full of himself, and talking nothing but Trash! imho.

C&L: He's so demeaning, glad Mika stood up against him. What an A–!! Yea, go home, Joe!

Cartoon: Unreal, I'm so against this, leave it to the legislature to pass this, ugh!!
Texas will allow concealed handgun license holders to carry their weapons into public university buildings, classrooms and dorms.

School is getting underway here in about a week or so, and teachers are already back for their PDs, and preps in their classrooms. Have a good day tomorrow. I watched the Olympic swimming events last night, , wasn't Michel Phelps amazing? His team too! The women's basketball was today. Great Teamwork! Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  2. Alternet: No real surprise…corporate swindling, lying, propagandizing is standard, sadly.  I came across information about how the greed bug is infecing the legal profession, here, with people being let go rather than kept on, or made partners, even after 14, or so, years with firms, for the sake of higher profits for the partners.  Bloody greed abounds!

Daily Funnies: Rumpy would predict anything, as long as doing so would provide some sort of cover for his miserable life.

C and L:  Is that "Morning Joe," of whom I have heard, this Scarborough fellow?  Just another Gigolo.  One more imbecile with a show.

'Toon: Bloody brilliant, no pun intended!

    • Morning Joe is the right wing show on MSNBC, the so called librul network.  It's on at breeakfast time foer three hours M – F.

  3. 4:55.  Of course, that invludes listening to  my anti-virus whine.

Please say hi for those of us who email or phone met one or the other or both of your other prison volunteers last fall.

KP Funnies – I think they call that "augmentation"?  Doesn't silicon work better?
And if any election rigging will be done, it won't be by the democrats.  If they do any more projecting, they won't have anything of themselves left.  Some would probably say they already don't.

C&L – But of course Joe was right.  Republicans don't care what Mika things because she's a Democrat.  Also because she's a woman.  If she were only black too, she wouldn't even exist for them.

ALterNet is definitely right on, and this is serious.  But we need more than verdicts, we need jidgments, and by God sentences.  Although we need to pick prisons carefully.  The prison you volunteer at, for instance, you wouldn't want them to go there, because they's be a TERRIBLE influence on your guys.

Speaking of prisons, Jeffrey Sterling (you may remember I mentioned him on National Whistleblowers Day) is having a rough time medically in the one he is in.  From Holly's email:  "Jeffrey is currently suffering from serious cardiac medical issues that have been blatantly disregarded, along with not receiving the proper medical care he is entitled to. Jeffrey has a history of atrial fibrillation, which he was previously hospitalized for, and is now experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, and dizziness."  If anyone can email or call the Warden, Deborah Denham ExecAssistant@bop.gov or 303-763-4300 to demand that Jeffrey receive necessary and proper medical care, it can't hurt.  They are also hurting financially (of course they are – that's why the prison sentence, and why so far away, over 800 miles, to hurt them financially) and Jeffrey's morale is suffering so he could use card and letters.  Care2 members PM me for that info.  Non-Care2-members, I hereby give TomCat permission to privately give you my "real" email address for this purpose.

Cartoon – Cute kid.  Maybe he should go to a Trump rally.

  4. I'm so glad to hear Wendy's sticking to her polish and shine routine for you even though she's back to her previous day-time job, TomCat. I can't bear to think about you having to find another suitable helper again after such a short period of time.
I'm not a great fan of watching sports as it is, I've stopped watching the Olympics when professionals were allowed to enter and commercial interests took over and Australia is about half a day out of sync with Brazil, so what ever I hear about the Games is from Australian news on TV. So I didn't even know the Dutch were playing the Aussies in Beach Volleyball; in fact I wasn't even aware the Dutch had a Beach Volleyball team playing in Brazil 😉 So not very difficult, no. But thank you for thinking about me, TomCat. I hope I'll be able to send you a new batch of Aussie strength catnaps soon.

KPDF: Can't watch this video, but Drumpf "predicting" anything is halarious.

C&L: Joe Scarborough needs to have a talk with Faux News' Ailes. And then leave.

Alternet: Another nail in Big Oil's coffin. It's been known for some time now that Big Oil has known about the adverse effects of their products to the world's climate and average temperature, since the early eighties if I remember correctly. But coming up with evidence of several of the large players working together on a "playbook" and using it, is a major breakthrough. As you say, TomCat: Bring it on and sue those bastards!

Cartoon: The next Drumpf generation? Better make a wide berth around kids in the audience, Hillary.

  5. Puzzle — 2:59  Well at least when you take dawg out for dinner, make sure you sit near the chandelier Puddy Tat.  Sorry pup, I could not save you.  You are so cute!

KP Daily Funnies — I have seen this video of Drumpf channelling his inner Republican previously.  I had to laugh because he is accusing Democrats of rigging elections when in fact, it is Republicans that are doing most of the gerrymandering and passing all the voter suppression laws.  His assertion that if he doesn't win the election, that is proof of Democratic perfidy which is beyond the pale of incredulity.  Trevor Noah did a decent job of outlining the Republican modus operandi.  Drumpf is a total slug!

Crooks and Liars — Scarborough is correct when he says Republicans wouldn't listen to Mika, a Democrat.  However his tone is condescending in typical Republican style.  What a jerk!  I was glad to see Mika sound off — that's a rarity.

Alternet — Do I smell roses?  The sweet smell of defeat of the fossil  fuel oligarchy!  Make it so.

"…that infamous playbook appears to have actually originated within the oil industry itself.

Cartoon — I've seen this one before.  Wasn't the gun a Christmas or birthday present and he wanted the picture so he could look tough?

Have fun with the gals!  We should have near 30 C on the weekend, but tonight is supposed to go down to 13 C with 88% humidity.

  6. A “Heads Up” for all of you who have Windows 10 OS:

Yesterday I finally got my much-touted “Anniversary Update” – and so far I have been very pleased!  I finally got my “Adblock Plus” extension installed, and it’s made YUUUGE difference in performance.

That said, it took a LOT longer than I expected to download/install, AND a lot longer than any other update.  (My desktop is a new computer that came w/ Windows 10, and I decided to NOT transition from Windows 7 that’s on my older laptop.  So I don’t have that experience.)

Maybe it was because I actively sought it out rather than wait for the automatic sequential (they’re rolling them out newest Windows 10 OS ones to the oldest ones) rollout.  The Update came out 8/2/16 and I definitely wanted to wait a week to see if they’d be any tweaks – and there was.  They do their updates on Tuesday, and yesterday was a newer Build – it’s #1607.

It took well over 30 minutes just to download it.  And it took well over another hour to install it!  And during a good part of that hour you can NOT do anything w/ your computer because it takes over everything, and restarts several times.

So far I’ve found no glitches – but I don’t use all the features because a number of them are designed for tablets, phablets, and Windows phones (I have Android).

If you don’t want to wait, you can get your Anniversary Update easily – just reserve a chunk of time when you won’t be needing your PC:

Settings –> Update & Security –> Windows Update –> Check for Updates

You have ten (10) days to uninstall it if you have problems.

    • I don't know how long it took to download.  It happened in the background, when I was doing other things.  When I became aware, I rebooted to install it.  It took about five minutes.  I havent figures out how to install add ins for edgs yet as I so rarely use it.

    • I don;t have Windows 10 myself, but if I did i would consider you a saint for providing all this information.  It would be exactly the kind of knowledge I'd need.  So blessings to you too.

  7. KP Daily Funnies: Can't stand to look nor hear Drumpf anymore!

C&L: I've listened in on Morning Joe's show a few times and concluded that he just wasn't worth listening to him at all. Mika should leave Joe's show and find a better climate to express her viewpoints.

Best program to watch and listen in the AM is Amy Goodman's Democracy Now! at:
