I’m leaving shortly for my Physical Terrorist appointment, although I doubt whether Courtney and I will accomplish much.  I did sleep better last night, but an insulin delivery and a fire drill wrecked my afternoon nap.  I still have several days of sleep deficit.  In addition, George is still off kilter, and my Prosthetist appointment isn’t until Monday.  My hands still hurt, and my vision is driving me nuts.  That said, others have it far worse than I.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:37 (average 5:18).  To do it, click here..  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: …That’s right. Trump will unify the races around statements like this:

“I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is; I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.”

The “laziness” statement came after Donald Trump started having financial difficulties at his casinos in Atlantic City. Trump’s response? He had black accountants.

Rump Dump will unify the races, but non-whites will be unified behind barbed wire.

From NY Times: In the dark for days, Fox News staffers finally got word on Thursday about the future of their network.

The news was delivered in person by Rupert Murdoch, the 85-year-old media mogul who started Fox News with Roger Ailes 20 years ago.

It was an unexpected visit, and with stunned employees listening in Fox’s Midtown Manhattan headquarters, Mr. Murdoch announced that Mr. Ailes was out as chairman and chief executive. Mr. Murdoch himself would be taking over Fox News in the interim.

I predicted that Ailes would be replaced by someone at least equally despicable as he is. Voila!!

From The New Yorker:

Trump was jubilant Thursday night after accomplishing his goal of delivering a speech that no one will ever want to plagiarize, Trump aides confirmed.

According to his staff, Trump and his speechwriters had been working overtime during the week to create a tirade that was sufficiently bloated, unhinged, and terrifying to discourage potential plagiarists from reusing excerpts in the future.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager, said that, right until the hour the candidate took the stage, the billionaire’s writing team was scrubbing the speech of any marginally coherent passages that might prove tempting to plagiarists.

“There was one sentence toward the beginning that had traces of humanity and rational thought,” Manafort said. “Fortunately, we caught it in time.”

Andy, I wouldn’t watch it myself, but it sounds like you nailed it, especially the quote from Manafart.

  1. DK: He's such a cad, and bigot!!

NYT: No drum roll from me, but I don't listen/watch Faux news.

NYer: Wow, you actually found ONE sentence that was lucid? LOL, Andy! I'd of thought there wasn't anything there, except the rabble rousers agitating the masses….

Oh, I sure do hope that you get some naps/sleep in, and that your hands start to heal. Sorry to read about George too. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

    • Oh, Pat, you had a typo in your comment: it should be "…agitating the asses."  Well, just one extra letter, what the hell.

  2. Hope your appt goes better than planned. Had an accident that took our pickup out permantly. Having a bad weekend. And it started yesterday. Sore and stiff today, but OK. Just not able to keep up with online activities. Hope your weekend goes better and George gets his kilter back!!!

Peace, love and hugs from a tired-assed Okie!!!

  3. AB always welcome.

Healthy attitude about managing health conditions.

Is the PP story about how demagoguery works?

  4. TMI WARNING!  (But relatively good news)

After five days of diarrhea (White Cloud TP company loves me) , I had a formed stool today!  (I was tempted to take a picture … but did NOT!)

    • Good for you!  Keep on keeping on.  I'm sure everything will come out all right in the end.

      • I don't want to leak any secrets, butt you crack me up.

You're always so Charmin with your kind and witty comments.

I don't want anyone poo-pooing this post just because it smells like a setup.  Honestly, I'm not papering over any facts.  The bottom line is I thought I could be on a roll with a few punny retorts.

But I'm sure JD's rejoinder will wipe the floor with me.

  5. 5:01  Ring a ding ding.

Back safely, hope you are too from PT.

DKos – So, OK, who are the people who are working two and three jobs to support families, just to come up to what minimum wage should be?  Hint.  it ain't whites.  I don't call that lazy myself.

NYTimes – Yup.  you were right, all right.  I will go beyond and predict that whoever takes over from Murdoch will be ditto.

    New Yorker – LMAO!

Cartoon – Dear God, where was he this week, when they desperately needed him in Cleveland?

  6. You really deserve a break.  I hope your PT made you feel better, not worse.

Daily Kos:  His racism is part of his appeal to the Repubs.  Also, xenophobia and sexism help appeal to their base, he is full of all three.

    NY Times:  You were right.

The New Yorker:  I didn't watch either, but from the sound bytes I have heard today, it sounds like Andy is right, as usual.

Cartoon:  We need a Pied Piper in DC!

  7. Puzzle — 3:34  Ding dong the wicked Sasquatch is on time!  You can't eat the bell anyway Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — Yesterday, I posted a CBC article in which some minority Republicans said that Drumpf was not racist, despite what many others said and despite the evidence to the contrary.  I was incredulous at that.  Perhaps they should read this article.  But I'm sure they would say that these instances were years ago and he has changed.  HA!  Leopards don't change their spots!

NY Times — I heard part of an interview with Ailes on the radio and I just about lost control of the car.  He said (paraphrased) "We went after fair and balanced reporting with journalistic excellence."  I also heard that O'Lielly and Hannity would leave if Ailes left.  I wonder if they will hold to that?  Without doubt, Faux won't change its bent — journalistic pollution!

The New Yorker — Who would want to plagiarise a fascist moron like Drumpf?  Certainly nobody with any intelligence.

Cartoon — Yes, who will be the Pied Piper to lead all the Republicans out into the sea? . . . far from shore, without life jackets and no boat.  They could try their walking on water skills!

  8. I hope you'll soon break this cycle of bad or interrupted sleep followed by pain and discomfort, with a bit of justified crankiness thrown in, I suspect, TomCat. Have you ever considered using your PC's options to dictate text or even speak your commands? You can also have them read text to you. My husband has good vision (with glasses at his age of course) but even after all these years can't type to save his life, so he uses these apps to write articles but also to write e-mails and comments because it's so much faster than typing with two fingers (as I do). It might safe you a bit of frustration with your eyesight and perhaps also lead to less pain in your hands.

DK: The American definition of racist has become a little murky at times, sometimes encompassing hatred toward others based on color, creed or even sexuality, but most often limiting itself to hatred towards African-Americans only. But even taken for its narrowest meaning, Drumpf AND the GOP are racist and displaying ingrained racism at that. Just look at how Drumpf always refers to "those people", "THE black people", "MY black man in the audience". But that Drumpf is a racist isn't the issue here – well at least not the most important one – but the fact that people support him because of it IS. Many of his supporters keep saying that Drumpf is telling it like it is, which means that they've found a voice and a legitimization for their own racism. Yes, Drumpf and the GOP are racist, that's beyond question, but so are millions of his voters and that is where the real danger lies should he make it to president. Racism, and every other form of discrimination, will no longer have to hide and no longer be hidden by the political correctness they so despise. I'd hate to think of what could be next.

NYT: How strange that one of Murdoch's children isn't taking over one of Dad's most successful enterprises (mainly due to Ailes hard work, by the way) and dear old Dad has to step up to salvage it. After the troubles with his tabloids in Britain he doesn't seem to think they're up to par, it seems. No rest for the wicked, Rupert?

TNY: I've not seen it, of course. Our media didn't even bother to show a flash from it and I now know why. ROTFLMAO Andy, you've really nailed this one. Excellent job.

  9. Tom, take good care!  Allthis stress might call for a Lona nap,or some serious medittion time.

New Yorker:  What, you all think that Andy is still talking with tongue in cheek?  No, no, this one IS for real!

DK: Mr. Empty Inside, aka: "No one is home," had to find it just too easy, and convenient, to pick on the culture's favorite social target, as he tried to deflect blame from the void inside.

NYT:  "Fair and Balanced;" the very logo is propagandist!  One can't say this SOB is lazy, he worked assiduously, daily, to twist reality .  Apparently, he helped Nixon get elected, helped G.W.Bushthing get elected, he birthed an entire string of blowhard cesspool denizens!  All this while Rupert counted his coins, and ate it up!
