I expected to be done by now, but I was Napster Nailed!! Lona got me this morning, and I slept for four solid hours. It’s already 96°, and the building is super-heated. The 10,000 BTU floor AC isn’t keeping it as cool as the 5000 BTU window AC used to, but it’s keeping it in the high 70³s, and with sum hitting the concrete face of the building most of the day, it would be over 120° inside without it.
Last night I was awakened by the beginnings of the Portland Rose Festival Starlight Parade, which passes under my window every year. So I dressed, decided to give Stumpy some fresh air, and went out without George. I took a bunch of my pictures with my Kindle Fire tablet. That was a mistake, because this was the best of them.
Fortunately, I also took a few with my IPhone 6.
I hope to do better with the Grand Floral Parade next weekend. It’ll be daytime.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 5:53 (average 10:02). To do it. click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From Daily Kos: An as-of-yet unnamed language arts teacher at Burns Middle School in Mobile, Alabama, is on administrative leave after giving 8th grade students a shockingly racist math test. Erica Hall’s son was so shocked that he snuck a photo of the test and sent it to his mom.
We may not know the teacher’s name, but we do know his political party.
From NY Times: Senator John McCain does not say much these days about Donald J. Trump’s attack on his five-plus years as a prisoner of war. Instead, he clenches his teeth and says he will support the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, who once said derisively about the senator’s time in captivity, “I like people that weren’t captured.”
That McConJob is goose-stepping behind Rump Dump, even after that, shows what a terrible President he would have been.
From Crooks and Liars: \Senator Elizabeth Warren hammered Donald Trump on his now defunct, and probably fraudulent, Trump University while giving a speech the Massachusetts State Democratic Convention in Lowell on June 4.
Bingo!! Once again, our Lizzie is a national treasure!!
Cartoon: a blast from five years ago.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
7:23 (10:02) Seriously, this hurts my eyes (not that my eyes are the strongest in the world, but when the average is that high, I suspect I'm not alone). If I were looking for a mask for Shrove Tuesday I think I'd have to go to Venetian models instead.
Portland and roses – a marriage made in heaven.
DKos – Someone looked up the school, and apparently there is only one teacher who fits the description by subjects/grade taught, and she is a "she." And I am humiliated to say that her first name is Joanne. (Fortunately I am again in good company, with J. K. Rowling, but I hate that we are both being slimed by this.)
NYTimes – Yes, that isn't just a personal insult to McCain (which of course it is), but an insult to all captured veterans, and all who were captured and never made it home.
C&L – Yay Lizzie!!!
Cartoon – From five years ago. My God. And now the Republicans are playing this game for real. Fortunately this time the Dems are staying out of that.
New topic: Now the FBI wants biometrics (think DNA) to be exempt from the Privacy Act. See http://org.salsalabs.com/o/498/p/dia/action3/common/public/ for details and to fight back. It does require actually writing something, but thaea is assistance with ideas.
Great quote: “The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Hot here, too, so I decided to support Ben & Jerry's current efforts on progressives' behalf to keep handy.
Parades are indeed a benefit of downtown living.
I think DK is a repeat from the past.
Warren also came out against super delegates this weekend and helped MA vote to end for 2020 (not quite as good as WI who also told current ones to mirror popular vote like ME, HI, AK and UT so far).
And both of their careers in politics will have ended before 2017.
DK is brand new. The test is a repeat from the past. The teacher just used it AGAIN this week.
DK: Read this. Unbelievable!!! and sick, that a TEACHER would actually pass this test out. He/she should know better, but "This sounds like it may have been an attempt to go out in one big blazing ball of racist glory." Should have been terminated immediately, imho.
NYT: Yea, I'd be concerned too, about his endorsement of Drumpf. They all seem to be bowing down, don't they? Scary!
C&L: Great video of Ms. Warren. Love this lady and what she stands for!!
Cartoon: LOL. 😉
Glad that you got a chance to go out, you took some great pictures!! Nothing better than a Loud & Proud parade!! Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.
Puzzle — 4:50 on my laptop but I bought a new mouse! Ee-haw!!! That made the almost dizzying colours and shapes easier.
Daily Kos — Racist? That is being rather generous to this vile excuse of a teacher. This teacher needs to be fired and prevented from ever teaching again!
NY Times — It would seem that desparate times demand desparate measures. It would seem that Republicans are so afraid of being annihilated by Democrats that they are holding their noses and goose-stepping with the vile one! McCain is an idiot to support Drumpf.
Crooks and Liars — Go Lizzie!!! She is so good at ripping Drumpf a new one! If she keeps it up, Drumpf will be seen as the biggest walking asshole of all time . . . and so well deserved!
Cartoon — PIMPROTFLMAO!!!!!
Great pics of the parade. Myself, I am not enthused by parades or large crowds. I hope you enjoyed the festivities! Here it was 35 C (95 F) just after noon. It is hot in the house but at least I have a fan on and although a bit stuffy, it is better than broiling heat. Now, 2000 hr, the temp is 32 C (90 F).
"I Love a Parade …"
Truly enjoyed your pix – and looking forward to MORE! Looks like you had a good time!
Ractist test teacher? Actually we DO know HER name – it's Joanne Bosler. And she's on administrative leave.
Love the pics! Who doesn't love a parade? Sounds like it was better to have it at night with all the heat y'all have been having lately! That stuff will be our way soon enough! I just wish it would bypass all of us this year!!!
I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT TEACHER REALLY DID THAT!!! I heard about this test somewhere this last week and I thought it was a joke that the comedian was making!!! That is Unfrigginbelievable !!!
OH! Miss Elizabeth has got Rump Dump Drumpf by the short hairs!!! I love this woman!!! But she needs to stay in the place she is at to make the difference! But, gotta love her fightin spirit and how she DEVOURS Drumpf!!!!
I enjoyed the pics, TC. Sorry about the noise, but you got to enjoy the parade up and close.
Daily Kos: That teacher should be on more than administrative leave, he or she should be fired.
NY Times: I have not had any respect for JOhn McCain since he brought Palin to us. Once again, he proves he has no integrity by agreeing to support a man who dishonors those who have served our country.
Crooks and Liars. Warren would make a great president.
Cartoon: That says it all!
This puzzle may be a first. I don't remember anyone beating the average by over 4 minutes.
CONGRATULATIONS, TC!
Hey Jerry, I beat the average by 5:12 minutes so the Puddy Tat wasn't the only one.
Where is your solve time? I've missed your presence on the site!
She got a new mouse and beat me!
They might not get you an award, but thanks for posting these pictures, TomCat. They capture the atmosphere of the Starlight Parade very nicely. Temperatures are up here too, which makes for very uncomfortable weather as we have been inundated less then a week ago. New thunder storms with torrential rains are expected here tomorrow. It's going to be a long hot summer in so many ways, I'm afraid.
DK: What?! This is wrong on so many levels it's hard to know where to start. Apparently this "math" test was given by a language arts teacher to the 8th grade students. She either had no business giving them a math test in the first place or she was to dumb and lazy to make one herself so she re-used this piece of racist filth that has been circulating among her racist friends since the 1990s in Red states. There's little left to be said about it's contents and use, even Fox 10 thought it would warrant some research and a news item about it. Now this "teacher" will be on administrative leave until she retires in a few weeks and that will be the end of it for her, I'm sure. She'll probably get a nice send-off too and meanwhile is circulating the test among the new staff at school.
NY Times: McCain was one of Drumpf's loudest opponents and now he'll support him. You could have put a barf bag alert on that one, TomCat, because that made me toss my cookies. Not that it's a surprise. Every political figure in the GOP now has to chose between goose stepping or being trampled by the horde. So they chose the first, either out of ambition for a job (Christie), just to survive (McCain) or because they fool themselves into thinking this all will blow over eventually and they will be there to pick up the pieces (Ryan). Meanwhile they do everything to keep their voters close and united as possible.
C&L: Drumpf will try to get back at Lizzy by calling her Pocahontas and goofy again, but mainly by threatening to sue her and calling her a liar. Which is of course another scheme that will fail miserably, because if Elizabeth Warren speaks out on things like this in public, you can trust her to have her research done very thoroughly indeed and not a word of it isn't based on facts. One would almost hope Drumpf would sue her so she can get this out in the open even more, get the courts behind her and make a big dent in Drumpf's ego and wallet.
Cartoon: Both of them gone and forgotten, surpassed in media attention by Drumpf.
Thanks all. Hugs!! Hurrying!!
