Yesterday I attended my guy’s second banquet at OSP. It was smaller than the first, but I still enjoyed chatting with a few of my guys and their families about the commitment my guys have made to rebuild themselves and the importance of encouragement and support from their families. One man’s wife talked about how much progress he has made in the CoDA group we sponsor, and mentioned that relationships are failing on both sides of their family. I suggested she find a CoDA group for herself and hope she does. I arrived home after 10 PM, and it took me until after 2:00 AM to unwind, so I took a nap this morning and plan to take another this afternoon.
Jig Zone Puzzle:

" Very little is recorded of Alse Young; her existence is only known through her reputation as a witch. She is believed to have been the wife of John Young, who bought a small parcel of land in Windsor in 1641, sold it in 1649, and then disappeared from the town records. She had a daughter, Alice Young Beamon, who would be accused of witchcraft in nearby Springfield, Massachusetts, some 30 years later. Like many similar cases of witchcraft, Alse Young was a woman without a son when the accusation was lodged, which implied that she would be eligible to receive through inheritance her husband's estate. "

I trust no one believes it was coincidence that almost all accused of witchcraft and killed were women?
In Salem, Mass., at least, and probably elsewhere, a person who identified a witch was entitled to her/his estate! There were people making a living out of what I will call "blasphemy!"
The girls whose accusations got the Salem Witch Trials going eventually admited that they had just been haviing some fun. the Salem Witch Museum is a fascinating plce to visit.
A fascinating place to visit – but you wouldn't want to live there, right?
I didn't know that!
"Follow the money" was true then too. I will not vouch for the truth of this, but there is a story that Nathaniel Hawthorne (author of The Scarlet Letter, The House of Seven Gables, and other masterpieces) added the "w" in his name as a memorial that he was so ashamed of his ancestor, Judge Hathorne. As I say, can't vouch for it. I can, however, vouch that he wrote more than one story about witchcraft in which the real witches turned out to be the "respectable" people.
Just as there is no coincidence involved in the witch huts the Republicans are doing against Hillary Clinton today.
witch hunts. not huts.
Glad that you had a good time with your guys! Glad you made it home safely too.
Thunder Storms kept me company last night, I feel 'hungover'. LOL. I'm due to go by dr's for a cortisone shot, and to get meds. Relax today, take care, and thanks, Tom.
4:57 Way too early in the morning.

Congrats, TC, you made some of this possible for these guys by your devotion to them.
Cartoon: Witch hunts still abound with the Republicans.
Puzzle — 7:13 on the laptop w/o mouse. I think I am improving . . . I'm into the single digits.
Cartoon — Women have been persecuted as witches for millenia. In 1486, the Malleus Maleficarum, a treatise on the identification and persecution of witches, was written by Heinrich Kramer, a German Catholic clergyman. The Catholic church used this publication during the Inquisition. While the persecution of women started in Europe, it spread to North America, South America, Asia and to a lesser degree to Africa. Even now, Republicans continue to persecute women with the same passion.
Glad you had a good visit with your guys and their families.
I can ketch fishies in that stream!!
You probably hope that I continue to use my laptop w/o a mouse so that you can nosh more often!
Hell yes!!
Glad to hear you also enjoyed your second banquet at the OSP as well, TomCat. It must have been good to see some of your guys and their families after such a long time and to hear that many appreciate what your volunteer group does and that they still make progress. Now take it easy for a while, because you have busy and stressful times ahead.
Cartoon: The women put on trial were often strong and independent, unmarried or widowed women with a mind of their own and with some knowledge, either of herbal medicine or of midwifery. They were the support of many women in their community which gave them too much power in the eyes of men, so putting them on trial as witches was a certain way to remove them from the community. Even if they were acquitted, their lives were ruined for good. Republicans want to bring back those days with naming and shaming and even punishment for those women who do not "obey" their male rules.
Thanks all! More pooped hugs!
