I’m getting a late start today, because I needed a cat nap, and I had a lot of scheduling to get done.  I’m pleased to announce that the Squatch, Nameless and I have agreed to promote another person to our staff in the position of Author.  I won’t actually come out and say who it is, but our new Author must get confused about whether to plant a bulb or kiss a roo.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:02 (average 5:20).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Better than a transcript, here is an actual video of Hillary Clinton giving a speech at the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women: Proving the Case for Women Entrepreneurs dinner. The video was posted October 22, 2014. I’m not sure if this is what Bernie Sanders is demanding (snark), but it does fit the three criteria, yes? Hillary Clinton, Goldman Sachs, and Speeches. This particular Hillary Clinton “unpaid” speech is about the empowerment of women — an issue the former U.S. Secretary of State has made a priority throughout her political career.

To be fair there were two ways this speech did not meet Bernie’s criteria. He wanted the speech to be paid. This was free. He wanted the speech to have been presented behind closed doors. This was not.

From TPM: Rep. Pete King (R-NY) went on a tear against the Republican presidential frontrunners in a blistering Tuesday interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” joking that he would commit suicide if Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) earns the nomination.

“I’m not endorsing Ted Cruz, in case anyone is confused,” King said. “I think I’ll take cyanide if he got the nomination.

Cyanide? He will?!!? Dang!! Maybe there actually is a valid reason to support the TRUSed Uranus!!

From Common Dreams: The U.S. Supreme Court reportedly appeared divided on a challenge to President Barack Obama’s immigration executive actions, as a 90-minute oral argument session wrapped up on Monday afternoon.

The case, brought by 26 Republican-led states and spearheaded by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, concerns two deportation protections that would shield roughly 5 million undocumented parents of American citizens and legal residents, as well as about 100,000 people brought to the U.S. as children.

Now, with only eight members sitting on the panel following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February, the court could end in a 4-4 deadlock—which would leave in place a previous ruling by a lower court that blocked the plan, without setting a Supreme Court precedent.

This is a case where 4 – 4 equals SCROTUS, (Republican Constitutional VD).

  1. I'm going out the door…..

    Thanks, Tom.

  2. 4:40  Well.  that was interesting.  A flower with what looks like elk antlers.

Splendid news, and I look forward to everything our new author will have to say!

DKos – DKos has booted or suspended a number of people who have been supporting Bernie.  I have been trying to keep a low profile thrre lately.

TPM – There are two Rep Kings.  This is Pete from NY.  If the other, Steve from Iowa, would take cyanide, I would also support Cruz's nomination.

Common Dreams – Yeah, the only silver lining is that no precedent would be set.  Which is a silver lining, though a small one.

Cartoon – I shudder to think what their definition of "better" would be.  Are you sure they didn't already do it better? on 9/11/2001?

  3. 3:34  I stopped to smell the flowers a little too long.

    • 3:08  I slowed down when I discovered that this plant and its fruit is not edible!

Daily Kos — "…our liberal sites and social media networks reach millions. We can disgrace ourselves to the country and resort to Tea Party/FOX tactics — or we can do this thing right. I’m not talking about political correctness. I’m searching for responsibly to the truth. " — AMEN!!!  There are more than enough Republicans without Democrats trying to get in on the action.

TPM — "“I'm not endorsing Ted Cruz, in case anyone is confused,” King said. “I think I'll take cyanide if he got the nomination. …"  Is he speaking for the entire Republican party?  I can hope.

Common Dreams — May justice be done!

Cartoon — If this had happened in 2015, I wonder if the reactions of people like Drumpf would be different towards Muslims?

  4. Some catnaps are on their way, TomCat. Keep taking care, my feline friend.

DK: The video may not meet the criteria, but the author makes a good point: " All bank people are not crooks, all doctors are not frauds, all Republicans are not evil — and all Democrats/Progressives/Liberals are not perfect."  And I'd like to add that Democrats need to be carefull not to fall back on Republican methods to get the upper hand.

TPM: It's tempting to send Pete King and likeminded Reps a notification that Cruz has won the nomination "by mistake" and rectify it a couple of hours later, but this loudmouth does have a point when he discribes Drumpf as “talking off the top of his head” and that Drumpf needs to “show that he has some comprehension of what’s going on in the world, not just some guy at the end of the bar throwing in remarks,” before he would support him.

CD: Darn, the Republicans refusing to put Obama's nominee for Scalia's replacement to the vote is paying off. Draging their feet is once again giving them exactly what they want. Just imagine how happy Drumpf and Cruz and their ilk will be.

Cartoon: I hope Americans never see the day they do it "better", TomCat.

  5. Thanks for the cartoon. But, better next time? Ugh. We had it BAD enough in '95! That was a bad day here. Knew some of the folks that were in the building. Had some friends that worked downtown close the site, also.

    Take care of George!

  6. I do not like Peter King. I have never liked Peter king. I would rather eat green eggs and ham!

    • Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on Morning Joe:

"I am not endorsing Ted Cruz.  I hate Ted Cruz.  I think I'd take cyanide if Ted Cruz got the nomination."

You gotta hand it to those thoughtful Rethuglicans … they just keep sweetening the pot, don’t they?

  7. I wish your new author the best, it must take hours to do the pages all of you have submitted.

Daily Kos:  The final sentence, "we are better thanthis"  is one that Hillary and Bernie both need to remember.  They started their campaigns on a high note, but lately have been mud slinging.  Supporters of each of them are also getting nasty.  We don't need to act like Republicans.

TPM:  Promises, promises!  This is about as sincere as my saying I would move to Canada if Trump wins.  Although, I really like Trudeau!

Common Dreams:  This is exactly why we need Scalia's post filled.

Cartoon:  A sad day for our country.

  8. Common Dreams: The Supreme Court will rule in favor of Obama with a 6-3 vote. Too much is at stake to allow the 26 GOP governors and led Texass Gov. Greg Abbott get away with their attack on Obama's immigration plan. One factor is that the GOP stalled, balked on any kind of immigration plan in Congress for years.  Another is that the immigrants have jobs and pay taxes plus to do away with them would have disastrous economic results.

  9. Thsnks all!  Hugs!!  Way pooped!!
