Wealth doesn't trickle down – it just floods offshore, research reveals
“A far-reaching new study suggests a staggering $21tn in assets has been lost to global tax havens. If taxed, that could have been enough to put parts of Africa back on its feet – and even solve the euro crisis”

CA – insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. That's not a bad definition, but it seems to me that it is equally insanity to care more that people get punished for doing wrong (or just for misfortune) than that they get rewarded for doing right. And that's the death penalty. And it doesn't just involve caring a little more about punishment, but caring a lot more – to the tune of millions of dollars. My gut goes along with my mind here – they both tell me that is insanity.
Wealth – My, my that sounds like a British trillion, which has six more zeroes than an American trillion (a British billion has three more zeroes than an American billion. And on up.)
Children – I've cited this before, but maybe it will be new to some –
https://wellthisiswhatithink.com/2016/03/09/every-three-seconds-a-new-poem/
Liberty Tree – May they not have died in vain. All of them.
Birth defects (all of them) – Why don't so called pro-life groups and people care about this? Or even admit it exists/happens? Oh, wait – I know why. See my first comment above.
Education, foreign policy, criminal justice, TPP, going forward – But you must understand that if we do anything constructive it will cut into executive bonuses. And the establishment in the video can't let that happen! They'd be toast!
And if you missed Ken Burns' "Jackie Robinson" over the last two nights, look for it to be run again. At my station I seem to be tripping over it every time I look at the schedule. And I am not big on videos as opposed tot he written word, but this does such a wonderful job of showing – things.
Death Penalty: What Rose said.
Offshore Wealth: "Assuming that super-rich investors earn a relatively modest 3% a year on their $21tn, taxing that vast wall of money at 30% would generate a very useful $189bn a year – more than rich economies spend on aid to the rest of the world." Incredible amount of money that could be utilized to help impoverished nations. Won't happen, but I would like to see taxation on the rich who hide their money. From 30 years ago to present. Wouldn't that be great?
Suffering children: So very sad. Thank you, Joanne for poem.
SNL shuffle: Spot on, loved this one.
Thank you, JL for post.
Exellent collection.
I wrote that there would be birth defects and cancer outbreaks from depleted munitions shells early in the failed Republican War for Oil and Conquest.
California's mad death penalty system: Is there any other?
Trickle-down economy. There's nothing left in America to trickle down. Just this evening my paper had a small article on an Oxfam Novib report, called "Broken at the Top", which revealed that the 50 largest American companies alone hide $1,300 billion afshore in so called tax havens, out of reach of the American treasury. Companies named were: American Express, Chevron, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Pfitzer and Walt Disney.Besides not paying their taxes, these companies received federal backing while making $4,000 billion in profits between 2008 and 20014. Need I say more.
Yemeni Children killed: This is no secret and actually widely known, but nothing is done about it internationally becaause these children and their families are killed as "collateral damage to the effort of whiping out terrorists in Yemen and it's neighboring countries". And yes, America supplies Saudi Arabia with weaponry and money.Any parallels I see between what is happening to the Yemen people and the Palestinians in Israel, which is also backed by the US without constraint, must be a figment of my imagination.
Kudos to all those people in different countries standing up to their governments, big companies, and would-be leaders to stop further exploitation of the land they live on, of the air they breath and of themselves.
Thanks for the gentle landing with the Establishment Shuffle, Judi 😉
