Friday Faux Fun

SoINeedAName is fine but frustrated, having every possible computer issue all at the same time. So he's unable to post a Friday Fun today. So I thought I would share with you one of my favorite places to get lost.

(No, no – I'm not saying you should "GET LOST"!  Would I do that to you?  Never!)

This site, Castle Arcana, has no purpose whatsoever, as far as I can see.  It just lets you wander through the rooms and grounds of the castle – more Victorian mansion than castle, really.  You arrive at the Castle Approach – pretty much anything you do on this page will take you to the front porch (with a reminder not to forget to visit the Gift Shop).

Part of the fun is that there are no guidelines, no directional arrows, no idea where you are going to go.  You just mouse over the pictures until your cursor turns to a hand – and at that point you can click and move.  Somewhere.  I will tell you that from the front porch you can go to the gift shop or to the front door.  The former click is at or near the sign.  The latter is on the left, not all the way, but towards the house.gift shop

Oh dear.  They must have forgotten to take down the Christmas decorations.  Tsk, tsk.  What IS this world coming to?  Well, let's knock and enter.  And now you are on your own to explore what there is to be seen.

Can you find the Maze?  Can you get through?  There's one route if you first go left and another if you first go right.  And both have (different) dead ends.  But the dead ends mostly have something educational (or at least cute) to look at.  One has an article on the history of labyrinths, for instance.  If you see a picture in a dead end, try clicking on it.  If you are taken to a bunch of information, at the bottom of the page you can "ask to be rescued."  But, if you do get all the way through, there is another surprise.maze

Can you find the garage?  (Excuse me, Carriage House!)  If you can, you can get in the car and take a ride to the summerhouse.  And back.

Can you find the armchair that will drop a purple spider if you click it?  If so, you can cast a spell of protection for yourself.

Can you find the window that looks out on this view?  (That's all, just the view.  You can't ALWAYS go someplace.)

Can you find this stained glass window?  If you do, you can click on it and read the history of the saint it celebrates.

If you find the Advent Calendar, you may be able to click on each day and read the factoid for it.  Or, you may only be able to mouse over it and turn the numbers into little color pictures.   (Or the factoid may open but be behind the page – showing up only if you minimize.)calendar

I don't want to spoil it by giving away everything.  But I can't promise you won't get into another dimension.  Oh well – any time you can't get out – you can always start over.

Have fun!
