Many years ago I started dealing with birthdays following the example of Jack Benny.  I’m 39.  If you don’t get it, rejoice!! You’re still comparatively young.  My birthday present to me is a Dominos pizza for supper.  Tomorrow I have a follow up appointment with Megan, my Primary Care Physician, so expect no more than a Personal Update, please.  Note:  Due to server issues with out HSP, the site was down for about two hours this morning.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:19 (average 5:26).  (Who sent them a pic of me?)  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan hired a law firm using up to $800,000 in taxpayer money to help his administration navigate through a throng of civil and criminal investigations. Both candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination have called for him to resign.

On Thursday he faces a grilling by a congressional committee in Washington. And as voters went to the polls on the state’s Primary Day last Tuesday, a group led by a Detroit pastor began an effort to recall him in a statewide referendum, a repeat of the movement that in 2012 targeted a fellow Republican, Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

Using taxpayer funds for his own criminal defense is itself a crime. May the recall of Sturmbannführer Snyder be more successful than it was with the Fartfuhrer of Fitzwalkerstan.

From Raw Story: Rachel Maddow: It is ‘impossible’ to call clash at Trump’s Chicago rally an accident

Enough Hairball to necessitate Barf Bag Alert!!

I agree with Rachel. Hateful Hairball intentionally provoked the criminal violence his supporters are now committing.

From Addicting Info: On Friday night, Megyn Kelly decided to weigh in on the protest in Chicago that sent Donald Trump packing. She, like must conservatives, accused the protestors of denying Trump and his supporters their first amendment rights.

Bimbette Barf Bag Alert!!

I knew that the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, would not withhold their support from Hateful Hairball for long. What their favorite low-cut blonde fails to recognize is that the First Amendment guarantee to freedom of speech does not extend to speech violating the rights of others by inciting violence against them.

  1. My mother-in-law claimed 39 until her oldest son turned 40.  Listen to the Beatles "Happy Birthday" serande with your pizza:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjF1bG5LUcs

Snyder really needs to get a clue about responsibilities of office and limits of authority in addition to separating personal criminal allegations from liabilities of the State.

Rachel is right as usual and Kelly is clueless about who limited the speech of whom legally.

  2. May you turn 39 many more times, TomCat!

NYT: As if poisoning a town full of people by switching their water supply to heavily polluted river water just to save a few bucks and then denying any knowledge or culpability isn't bad enough, gov. Rick Snyder has once again shown that a Republican can always sink lower by using the money he saved this way, i.e. the taxpayer's money, to lawyer-up himself and his administration. I just looked him up in Wikipedia and it describes him as "an American politician, business executive, venture capitalist, and accountant." Explains a lot, doesn't it. I hope the referendum will be held and Snyder is kicked out on his ass and then hauled off to jail to await indictment. The man is a disgrace.

RS: Good on ya, Rachel for having the balls to show the truth: Sieg Heil, Fürher Drumpf.

AI: "That means that the protestors had just as much of a right to go protest Trump, as Trump has a right to go spew whatever hateful rhetoric he wants." Exactly what I was thinking when I listened to Megyn Kelly's remarks. Well, Drumpf has Faux News jumping through his hoop again, soon he'll have his SS boys (look it up in Wikipedia) aka Trump Youth's patrol the streets, to clear them of those people "who are no good and hurting America". It won't be long to the Kristallnacht. I wonder with what euphemism this will go down in American history.

  3. it saddens me how awful this man (tRump the Drumpf) can be and how well he is doing, embarrassing even if not a repuglicon……if his talk isn't racist and prejudicial I don't know anything can be

  4. RS: Outstanding reporting by Rachel !! I sent it on to friends to watch. His downfall will be his own doing, and I for one, hope it happens soon!

AI: She's so annoying, and sickening!! The protestors (Kudos to them), have as much right to be there to voice their opinions, and to stand up against what Drumpf represents, (and his minions) . The blame game is on Drumpf !

Pizza sounds good!  Happy 39th, Tom. Enjoy your day!

  5. 6:05 – Wasn't that nice of them, to put a picture of a cat that looks like you for your birthday?  A pretty girl, too.

NY Times – I am out of things to call Rick Snyder.  Resigning would be nice, but being criminally indicted would be better.  (And he probably sleeps like a baby at night.  No conscience at all.)

Raw Story – Not going to watch, nauseated enough already.  Of course he is guilty.

Addicting info – First amendment rights – ANY amendment rights – don't come without consequences.  Drumpf exercises forst amendment rights, as do his supporters, and expects everyone to just be bobbleheads (excuse me, bobbleheads with raised right arms).  Not going to happen.  Other people want to exercide their first amentment rights too.  The side that is doing the beating up is the one that is denying those roghts, not the side suffering the injuries.

Cartoon – When I hit 39 I did the same.  I, however, also have blue eyes and played the violin.  I've been 39 just a little longer, though.

  6. 2:54  Well at least I don 't have to worry about you having fricassée du chat today!

    • 4:27  Now I know why TomCat does so well on these puzzles.  Obviously, given the puzzle today, he has a special "in" with the puzzle people.  How else do you explain today's puzzle?  TomCat — a self-portrait!

  7. I've done ya a little better. I've stayed at 23 for more than 40 years. Following my example my daughter has decided to stay at 28 so somehow my daughter is older than me.

I hope that you've had a wonderful day! Happy Birthday!

  8. HAPPY 39!!!!!!

    NYT: Recall!  Recall! Indict!  Indict!

  9. Trump needs to be indicted, too, for incitement to riot.

  10. Sorry – not me!

We were both born in 1948 and I relish every year … soon to be 68!

  11. Inciting a riot is illegal, isn't it? Hateful Hairball has whipped his supporters into a frenzy and now they are of his control and he's not happy with it! So he had to blame it on someone and that someone is Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders!

Now who'd a thunk that HumptyTrump would do something like that??? LOL!!!

  12. So mad about HumptyTrump, I forgot.

Happy Birthday to the best TomCat in the world!!! I don't how many times I have turned 39!!! But, it's a good age to be right now!!!

    PEACE, LOVE and MANY HUGS!!!

  13. Puzzle — 2:54  Well at least I don 't have to worry about you having fricassée du chat today!

NY Times — Snyder and a host of federal and state employees are responsible for the disaster called Flint. However, as a businessman, Snyder should know that the ultimate responsibility falls to the CEO, him.  Not only that, he failed to act when he did have information.  His mea culpa rings hollow.  Why should the people pay his legal costs for his culpable negligence?  They shouldn't.

Raw Story — As I said yesterday when I posted this same article (TC and I frequently fall in the same ditch!), I agree with Rachel in her thesis that the violence at Trump rallies, particularly in Chicago, is no accident.  I venture to say, the violence will continue.  Assuming that Drumpf is the Republican nominee, will the violence continue through into November?  I pose that question because we have seen elections in other countries where partisan factions have interrupted elections.  Is that where the US is heading?  Or will cooler heads and the rule of law prevail?

Addicting Info — "What their favorite low-cut blonde fails to recognize is that the First Amendment guarantee to freedom of speech does not extend to speech violating the rights of others by inciting violence against them." — Amen!  The one thing of hers that is more low-cut than her apparel is her IQ.

Cartoon — You stopped aging at 39 while I admit to every year gladly.  May you age like a fine wine!  Happy Birthday Puddy Tat!

    • There is a petition on ForceChange.com regarding the level of violence at Trump rallies.  Stop Violent Assaults By Trump Staff and Supporters

Goal: Start arresting and charging Donald Trump’s staff and rally attendees who assault protesters and reporters.

Violence at Donald Trump rallies has been increasing. The latest incidents include a black man being punched in the face by a white Trump supporter as the man was already being escorted off the premises, and a female reporter for the very conservative website Breitbart being yanked to the ground by one of Trump’s campaign managers for the apparent crime of asking the presidential candidate a question. The explanation given for the latter action was that they thought she was “a liberal.”

The violence surrounding these rallies is out of control. Thanks in part to Donald Trump actively inflaming the crowds, assault has become a regular feature of these events. Not even reporters for publications that have supported Trump are safe from random attacks. This kind of behavior is an embarrassment to the country and works as an intimidation tactic to keep dissenting voices out.

Violence in politics undermines our democracy and cannot be tolerated any longer. Law enforcement needs to step up and start arresting and charging rally attendees who commit assault. The campaign manager who assaulted the Breitbart reporter needs to be charged with a crime and held accountable. We have laws against assault in this nation for a reason, as every other nation does, and failure to enforce them is a complete failure of justice. Sign this petition to demand action from law enforcement across the U.S. to stop this shameful violence.

      • I've signed, Lynn, but I'm not sure the signature of a foreigner counts in this case.

  14. Bless Rachel for having the courage to call a maniac a maniac.  Someone will eventually be killed and Trump will blame everyone but himself…. he is an evil man who deserves to be the one that dies.

Have been 39 many times myself, TC….when you see something like Trump, I'm glad I'm so old.

  15. Excellent comments above.

Petition in Lynn's box above signed. Thx Lynn.

NYTimes: Gov. Snyder needs to go to prison for life! The children he poisoned will need medical and mental health for the rest of their lives. Lets not forget the Legionnaires Disease which killed a number of citizens in the Flint area. The State of Michigan should not be paying for his defense; It should be paid by the GOP of Michigan as they are also complicit in the entire matter.

Raw Story: In agreement with Rchel Maddow. Drumpf needs to be arrested for incitement for violence at his rallies.

Drumpf lied completely about what actually transpired in Chicago. Enough said!

Addicting Info: Megyn Kelly now supports Drumpf in his freedom of speech after wha he did to her in the first debate. Megyn is a joke. Megyn needs to go on a permanent vacation. Drumpf needs to be arrested for incitement for violence, period.

All the women on my nursing unit were 39 years old and younger. Yes, we had some true younger nurses on the unit. Yes, I remember Jack Benny from so long ago. lol.
