Did Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Enable the Coup in Honduras?
“On June 28, 2009, when Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, democratically elected Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was overthrown by a military coup. The United Nations, the European Union, and the Organization of American States condemned the coup, and on July 5, Honduras was suspended from the OAS.
Under longstanding and clear-cut U.S. law, all U.S. aid to Honduras except democracy assistance, including all military aid, should have been immediately suspended following the coup.”

Incredible glacier art pays homage to our disappearing ice
“Diane Burko has a penchant for glaciers. Her paintings and photographs of frozen landscapes evoke the sensation that you’re standing on ice that could soon melt away — as ice these days is wont to do.”

8. Although failing to teach about our concentration camps shows that we are deeply ashamed of them, which is a good thing, it also increases the likelihood we will repeat them, and that is a very bad thing indeed. I read far too many comments badmouthing entire groups, and far too high a percentage of them are from people who should by God know better.
9. We as a nation did this to ourselves with our love affair with fossil fuels, and our complacency with fossil fuel companies. If we put a tenth of the effort into making creation and distribution of sustainable energy viable and profitable as we have into shoring up failing fossil fuel production, there would be no need for this kind of regional hardship. The federal government is still subsidizing fossil fuel producers and distributors and refusing to subsidize sustainable energy. WTF did they expect?
10. Yes, well, about GD time, isn't it! I love the GIF – another ambiguous expression that would make a good GIF is "reboot."
It's wonderful to see how this artist shows how damage to the environment affects the reefs.
Upworthy: Having worked with ASD students, (SpEd), this was a great article, to raise awareness for these kids (and parents), and applying and using the ABA with them. At school(s), it's very hard for them to transition, or to sit in a classroom, so walks became a norm, or activities in my office. Understanding the cognizable needs is foremost. The bottom line however, is to Love Unconditionally.
Upworthy2: I remember my father talking about the Japanese internment at the dinner table, and his sadness when he spoke of this. As a young child, I didn't understand as I do today. This should be taught in schools, as students need to know of this horrible tragedy that happened. Hate is alive and well, however!!
Upworthy3: Finally!! Like the WASPS of WWII, I am glad to see that these ladies are receiving the recognition due them. We, (women) have long been unrecognized for achievements above and beyond, that contributed to technology or other facets of life.
Grist: Beautiful pictures.
Wonderful quote by Robin too!
Thanks, JL for this post.
Parking: My idea of the future for cars would be far, far less of them and all electric, so this is a step in the right direction.
Ceramic Coral: Beautiful and terribly sad at the same time, art imitating nature's beauty to make clear that the original may soon be gone forever.
Coup in Honduras: It comes as absolutely no surprise to me that America has enabled this coup. Both Obama and Clinton enabled the military coup, removing a democratically chosen president from office. It's not the first time America has intervened and sadly it won't be the last. "There is a two hundred year legacy of U.S. military intervention and subversion in Latin America that didn't stop in January 2009. It's hard to have confidence that former Secretary Clinton will end this legacy as President when she used her power as Secretary of State to turn the clock backwards." This is exactly what I think will happen if Hawk Hillary wins from Bernie.
Wall Street Tax: As stocks, bonds and derivations are just like any other commodity to the 1% it is common sense to tax their sales just like any other sale. It's been happening here for years and I haven't heard the complaint that people bought or sold less because of it. But introducing it will need to go hand in hand with closing all loopholes to avoid the taxpayer picking up the tab and the $300 billion will go where it's needed: the poor.
Carnage in Syria: What I get most from this discussion is that Syria is in a dreadful, violent, unlivable mess and we, the West, have a lot to account for.
Syrian truce: Assad is clearly not speaking about the biggest terrorists of all: he and his government.
Autism: So good to hear there are therapies like ABA out there which improve the lives of autistic patients and everyone around them.
Recession: It is telling that the four states already in recession are the ones who have a concentration of energy companies. Not investing in and switching to sustainable energy but clinging to fossil fuel energies in time by state and federal governments is demanding its toll already.
Recognition of women technicians: So glad these women were recognized for the pioneering work they did when some of them (?) were still alive. "Better late then never" may not be appropriate for those who didn't live to get this recognition. I had it a little easier when I started a career in IT, designing real-time software systems in the early eighties as the sole female IT-er in the company and in those I was detached to, but not much.
Glaciers: Wonderful paintings, but I fear she needs to look for a new subject soon.
Loved Robin Williams' picture and quote you added to the Care2 cross-post, Judi!
