I’m still ill.  My PCP’s office told me that, since I’m not running a fever, I should call Monday, if not better.  I still feel crappy.  This today’s only Article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:39 (average 5:10).  To do it. click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In a sign of voters’ shifting perspectives about Presidential hopefuls, a new survey reveals that Americans are deeply nostalgic for a Republican candidate who only wanted to screw over forty-seven per cent of them.

In interviews conducted across the country, voters expressed wistfulness and even a deep longing for a man who was indifferent to the fates of nearly half the nation’s residents.

“When he was running, it seemed like a bad thing that he didn’t care whether forty-seven per cent of the country lived or died,” said Tracy Klugian, of Akron, Ohio. “Now I realize we were being too picky.”

“He threw thousands of people out of their jobs and onto the streets, but he let them stay in the country,” said Kent Bantwell, of Springfield, Missouri. “I’ve got to say, I miss him.”

I hate to admit it, Andy, but even Little Lord Willard looks better than the dregs that remain in the Clown Car.

Daily Kos:  The young girl had it coming. After all, she was on a gun range.

Well, let me rephrase that: she was inside her own home in a quiet neighborhood.

But thanks to Rick Scott and the NRA-controlled legislature, the whole state is now an open gun range. The girl was reaching for her mom, who was foolishly looking out of her own sliding glass door at the gun nut, firing uncontrollably, on his makeshift gun range with houses all around.

A bullet sliced through the young girl’s hand. She is now in tremendous pain.

"It’s in a lot of pain right now, the pain doesn’t go away".

Well, go f— yourself, little girl. That is what you get for living in Florida. The shooter, Harold Lanham, has a lawyer that put it best:

"This was a tragic result, this young lady (getting) hurt,” said Mike Chionopolous, Lanham’s attorney. “But he wasn’t doing anything illegal.”

His lawyer made clear that his client was acting within Florida law.  He’s right.

Thanks to Rick Scott and a teabag legislature that literally takes orders from the Florida NRA, there are no restrictions whatsoever on building makeshift gun ranges: any type of weapon or ammo that can be used, any time of day or night, without any regard to proximity of houses, schools, daycare centers, and playgrounds!

Barf Bag Alert!!

Doug can be summed up in two words: Republican Ammosexual.

From NY Times: The Obama administration this week will begin the task of trying to persuade Congress to support its plan to shut down the prison in Guantánamo Bay before the president leaves office in January.

Whatever the plan is to close the GOP Gitmo Gulag, and no matter how good it is for the country, Republicans will seditiously sabotage it.

  1. NYer: Hilarious!! LOL, Andy!

DK: I used to live in Florida. Glad I don't live in this crazy guy's neighborhood!! Sad about the little girl though, that's unbelievable. ''CLEAR!!''

NY Times: Kudos to Mr. Obama for doing this. Yes, the Repugs will find an excuse NOT to agree.

Get some rest. Don't forget to drink your fluids. Did I say rest?? Take care, Tom, and Thanks!

  2. Glad you were in touch with PCP.

AB is too right again. Even he couldn't make that girl's injury a laughing matter.  Sad that state holds life in such disdain.

Gitmo does need to close and the International Court has supoenaed the military officer who used to run it for the case that has Cheney and Bush staying here to avoid arrest.

  3. 5:01  Don't tell me, let me guess – you'll probably catch the flamingo, yet feel too bad to keep it down.  Darn!

New Yorker – I have nothing to add.  Every time one starts thinking it just can't get any worse, it does.

DKos – "In case you are wondering where the Democrats are in all of this, they do what Florida Dems do best:  ball up in the corner.  A few Stockholm-syndrome Democrats in the legislature even support this madness."  Different from the national party only in degree.  Yes, voting for Bernie will help.  But not enough unless Democrats (and I don't mean DINOs) become f=the majority in the Senate, the House, and every state chamber.  What can you do TODAY? If you are not in Florida, don't go there.  If you are … well, you tell me.  I wish you good luck.

    NY Times – Yup.

Cartoon – Yes indeed.  Actually, so is the cost of stamps in all-mail balloting.  My state gets around that by allowing in-person drop-off, but for a person with limited mobility, that's not much of an option.  There are far more important battles to be fighting in the USA today, but just sayin'.

  4. 2:57  I know you are a bit frail because of the cold/flu Puddy Tat, but sorry, no flamingo fricassée for you tonight.

  5. Puzzle — 2:57  I know you are a bit frail because of the cold/flu Puddy Tat, but sorry, no flamingo fricassée for you tonight.

The New Yorker — Too funny but your comment TC is spot on!

Daily Kos — This is absolute madness!  So when did the rights of the one lunatic override the rights of the many?  Unfortunately, the video is not available to me, even on the thecomedynetwork.ca.

    NY Times —

"Progress on those fronts would reduce the population at Guantánamo to a very small number. And that would make the cost of running the overseas prison increasingly hard to justify."

That has never stopped Republicans before!  Evidence: campaign to repeal Obamacare; Boehner's expenses re DOMA; Congressional hearings such as Planned Parenthood and Benghazi.

"… help restore America’s standing as a champion of human rights …"

Don't make me laugh!  A lot more than this is required!

I am sure TC will cover this tomorrow in his Open Thread but there was "talk" of relocating the Congress to Guantánamo.  Wouldn't Republicans be so happy!

Cartoon — "Any expense incurred by a voter to obtain a Voter ID is an illegal poll tax."  Amen!!!

  6. Putting on my stethoscope here …

Glad to hear that you’re not running a fever.  That, of course, assumes you’ve NOT been taking any analgesics for aches and pains which ALSO have antipyretic properties (e.g., aspirin, acetaminophen, etc.) that would mask a fever.

It’s probably wiser to call for an appointment on Thursday to be seen on Friday if you’re NOT feeling better – not necessarily well, but better.  (Weekends are no time to be dealing w/ issues that have been going on for several days.)

You have some underlying conditions that would move you up on the calendar, IMO.

And I’m sure we’re ALL glad that you touched base w/ your PCP!

    • I hope he heeds your advice, Nameless.

    • I couldn't agree more, Nameless! Medication might be masking a fever, but even if TomCat doesn't run one he shouldn't wait until Monday to call his doctor if he still feels as bad as he does now. His symptoms could be signs of his body struggling after the beating it had last year and his PCP herself (not the office) should take that into consideration.

  7. The New Yorker:  It really is a sad day when we can actually miss RMoney, but the current crop of clowns would make almost anyone look good.

Daily Kos:  Poor little girl.  Even though it was "legal" there should be some recrimination for this. Her mother should have had some way to prevent this in their neighborhood, but since Florida is so gung ho for guns, she didn't.  How many more children being killed or wounded will it take to make people wake up and start protesting?

Cartoon:  Too bad many of our politicians don't know about this amendment.

I hope you are better soon.  Monday seems a long time to have to wait to see your doctor, though.

  8. I forgot to add, this was one of his campaign promises, so now he is trying to live up to it.  I am sure it won't happen.  The Repubs love Gitmo too much.

  9. Please take Nameless' advice, TomCat, and call your PCP on Thursday if you still feel as bad. Don't let yourself fobbed off by an assistant, however nice she is, but try to speak to your PCP herself. You're new to them, they might not have the complete picture on board and so you need to remind them

The New Yorker: Yes, Andy, you're absolutely right. Compared to the past and present filling of this year's Clown Car, someone screwing over ONLY 47% of the country must look like a saint, even to deluded Republicans. They could always vote for Hillary though.

Daily Kos: The girl was shot through the hand, but that bullet, or any other, might have killed her mother standing behind that glass window, or next door's baby lying in its cot, or… This is pure insanity. Rick Scott has not only allowed the ammosexuals in his state to build makeshift gun ranges without ANY restrictions, he allowed Marion Hammer (former president of the FL NRA) to "lobby" Florida's state legislature to enact a "pre-emption law" that levies a $5,000 fine on any local official who tries to limit home-made gun ranges. In case someone complained, you know. WTF? Thank goodness only in America.

NY Times: Obama is "trying to persuade Congress"…sorry, but now ROTFLMAO. If it wasn't so terribly sad for all those lives ruined and Human Rights made into a mockery for all those years, I really would be laughing. Obama must have a trick up his sleeve, something to trade, if he really wants this to happen., but I think he mainly want's to avoid the idea that he hasn't tried hard enough to keep his promise in his legacy.

Cartoon: The greatest democracy in the world entertained the idea of a poll tax at one point? Too bad Republicans have to beat about the bush with ID's and bureaucracy to keep voters from exercising their right now, isn't it.

  10. Take good care of yourself.  I like Namelss' advisealso.

    Andy is always good!

Is Florida in competition to be dumber than Texas???  What absolute idiocy!  Poor baby, he does not want to HAVE to go to a shooting range…don't your heart strings just break for him?

Shut Gitmo!  No, No, send the Florida legislature and Ricky baby there!
