Yesterday I spent most of the day resting, although I did cook myself a steak, cheese whipped potatoes, Asian veggies, and chocolate cake (bought). I successfully moderated portions, as my glucose level this morning was 97. Sleeping without sheets is very uncomfortable. And my helper-friend is still AWOL. Tomorrow is a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb. My Broncos’ meditation with the chargers will be televised.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 2:45 (average 4:46). To do it. click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From Daily Kos (classic 11/2015): Sixty million people died in World War II, but fascism won. It didn’t win on the battlefield. It didn’t win right away. It won because the same fears, the same greed, the same hatred that fueled its growth in the first part of the twentieth century never went away. The symbols of fascism became anathema, but the causes … went deep. And gradually, slowly, one step at a time, all those vices became first tolerated, then treated as virtues, and then as the only acceptable view.
Godwin’s Law—the contention that any argument will eventually come round to warnings about Hitler—is twenty-five years old, but for much longer than that, we’ve been taught that the use of that… f-word, is not to be taken seriously. Sure, every government program, new or old, is open to accusations of communism and warnings of a slippery slope toward some failed dictatorship. That’s expected. But to even acknowledge our long, stumbling lurch to the right; the building force of corporate power; the relentless need for war; a police whose power of enforcement is divorced from law; a preening nationalism that rewards the full rights of citizenship only to those who fit an ever-narrower mold… You can’t call it fascism. People will only laugh.
Godwin’s Law – a common meme used by Republicans, other fascists, pseudo-intellectuals, and people with their heads in the sand, or in smellier places, whenever anyone points out the verifiable commonalities between today’s Republican Party and Germany’s National Socialist Party, before Hitler became dictator. The Republican Reich must be stopped.
From NY Times: For decades, the south steps of the State Capitol have served as a staging area for rallies on issues ranging from abortion to immigration rights, but Friday was the first time that demonstrators walked around here with handguns on their hips.
On a chilly, overcast day, more than 100 Texans gathered carrying an array of holstered weaponry — Glocks, Smith & Wessons and more — to mark a change in the law that lets them openly display the fact that they are armed. The practice had been banned in Texas since 1871.
Similar demonstrations were held in several other Texas cities.
Look! The Republican Ammosexuals are exposing their penises.
From Alternet: A self-described “pro-family” conservative said on Facebook he should be allowed to grab the nipples of breastfeeding mothers if a law banning women exposing breasts in public didn’t pass. New Hampshire state Rep. Josh Moore (R) deleted the comment, but it was archived and posted by Slate.
How about grabbing Moore’s balls in public… with pruning shears?

May the Goddess of the Ellipsoid Orb bless the Broncos! But I gotta beat ya in FF! Maybe! You have Brock and I have Kirk or Ryan. You got me beat at QB any day of the week!
Otherwise, I'm riddled with injuries.
Godwin's Law- Somewhere in November, or December, I posted a story that read somehting like "We had better call it Fascicm, now, while we still can," so I have to, need to, want to agree totally that fascism is here!
The tone of the DK article reminds me of the parallel concept regarding the American Civil War: that the South lost the war, but won reconstruction.
In Europe, the name "Texas" has become synonymous with "Crazy," and this will not help to dispell that connection! This is NOT what the 2nd amendment was about!
That's an insult to crazy people.
Blessedly many Texas businesses will not allow open carry. We are checking lists to see which businesses to avoid and which ones we still are comfortable doing business with. Our grocery store happily was one of the first to post that they would not allow oc. Our local pet supply store was on a list that will allow oc but the shopping center that it's in will not so it's not so simple. Open carry websites are also good to check as if they are boycotting the establishment, well then it's good to go for us.
On yesterday's news I was listening to a story about this and of course that story was followed by the story of a young lady, a college student, who had been shot and critically injured in what appeared to be a road rage incident. Of course that could have happened before Jan 1 but I think we're going to see a whole lot more of this now.
Thanks Bonnie. I didn't know that.
2:32 I see red when I see dogs
3:13 My puzzle solving abilities have gone to the dogs.
That Squatch Bigfooted the dawg I was going to eat!
4:38 (4:47) It's Wishbone!
Mmmm- sounds good. When I make a crockpot, I separate portions into microwavable dishes and freeze them for later. That's what I had. It was a kind of festive combo (there were cranberries in it) so I was planning it for yesterday anyway. Gld your service will be televised. Wishing you ecstasy.
DKos – This isn't that long ago, so it is quite up to date. I've always been glad I didn't live then. I never dreamed (maybe I should say nightmared) that eventually I would.
NY Times – I would just as soon have them open carry than concealed carry if they are going to darry anyway. It's as well to know what the danger is. The soman on the right isn't, but bears a passing resemblance to, Kim Davis. Sigh.
AlterNet – I'm not sure pruning shears wouldn't be overkill. A sharp twist should do it.
My crock pot's on top of the fridge. I can only use it when I have help.
Your meal sounded delicious, TomCat, it must have taken some willpower to stay within the correct portion sizes – rather, it would have taken some of mine – so well done. I'm sorry to hear about your helper-friend still being AWOL. She's been mentioned far too often in your personal sections to make a very reliable impression, and reliability is a priority for you now. Did you speak with with the home nurse about getting some paid help? Someone that is not a friend may be easier to deal with in terms of consistency.
Enjoy your meditations this weekend, that could perhaps make up for sleeping without sheets 😉
Daily Kos: I dare say that Godwin's Law is equally far reaching now as fascism was in the 1930s-1940s. We tend to forget that Hitler never acted on his own, he worked together with equally fascist Mussolini Italy), Franco (Spain) and Hirohito (Japan) and was able to take over neighboring countries like his birth country Austria so easily because their governments were extreme right wing and made the transition easily. In our own epoch it isn't just America that is coming close to fascism – and would be that in all but name if Trump got elected – many countries in Europe and elsewhere are following in America's footsteps and are shifting to the far right (again), ready to jump on the bandwagon. Yes, the Republican Reich needs to be stopped for all our sakes.
NY Times: Wish I could sigh "Only in Texas…", but sadly these ammosexual disease has spread far and wide across America. What a pathetic bunch.
Alternet: Note that Moore identifies himself as a “pro-family” lawmaker who “love God, Country, guns and family.” where family is the last in line, after guns of course. What the frack is happening to New Hampshire? What has scared NH's men so badly that they can't even look an honest, breastfeeding nipple in the eye anymore without giving in to their cave man urges?
Lona, she gives me a lot of help, but she has a life too.
That sounds like a pretty good meal to me!
Daily Kos: Of course we were headed toward facism long before, but I believe the Patriot act hastened the progression!
Alternet: Josh Moore has to be a very repulsive creature!
NY Times: They look so proud of themselves in the picture! Obviously, they equate being a man with carrying a gun. I hope Bevins does not promote this in Kentucky!
Cartoon: They would have, too!
Every Republican President after IKE has moved us in that direction.
it's really quite amazing , that they had brains in Texass in 1871 , instead of as now , loud mouthes , oil money , a hatred for women . what ever happened too them , ther than maybe they became the disgusting R word . be well TC
