Barely a week has gone by over the past year that I have not heard another horror story about the effects of fracking accompanied by ridiculous claims from the fossil fuel industry’s Republican allies that what the victims of fracking saw, hears, felt, smelled, and tasted was not real.
Once again, in 2015 the oil and gas industry showed us the ludicrous lengths they will go to in order to frack more communities. In the process, they created ample fodder for Comedy Central, and the likes of John Oliver, John Stewart, Trevor Noah and Larry Wilmore. Here are a few of the worst head-shaking stunts that made the news in 2015:
5. If the ice is melting, can we drill there?
Really, Exxon? Are you serious? Separate investigations by Inside Climate News and the Los Angeles Times revealed this year that ExxonMobil’s own researchers were aware of the devastating climate impact of extracting and burning fossil fuel as far back as 1981. In fact, over twenty years ago, in 1992, Exxon scientists were convinced that “potential global warming can only help lower exploration and development costs” for oil in the Arctic.
At least this story is so absurd that there is growing momentum toward opening a full Department of Justice investigation into what Exxon knew and when. There’s no doubt that ExxonMobil spending $31 million since 1998 to fund climate-denier think tanks and politicians would be central to the case. We still have a lot to find out — who knows what they’re hiding about fracking? Take action, and we may just find out…

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
#5 is awful to me…..just more greed and destruction
I would love to make some profound comments, but I can't make it through the list without a barf bag today. Signed the petition (probably for the umpteenth time, but it took me).
Ugh. Oklahoma made it to #2! The count on the earthquakes has gone up since yesterday. We had some more right under my son's house! The booms that are emitted when one of those quakes happen is so SCARY! There were 6 quakes in ONE DAY! Some were aftershocks. But they were all 4.0 or more. A lot of shakin goin on in OK. And there will be a lot more. Just follow the frackers! Soon enough, there will be a quake!
Please don't take it personally, TomCat, it's good that you post these "worst lists" because it is 2015's reality, but after a few days of reading these and many others around, I've had my fill. Fracking has been great worry to me since I learned about it a few years ago as they were going to start drilling only a few kilometers from where I live, and these five stunts are making my blood boil. I've only 12 more hours to go until the New Year starts here and I'm signing of now, otherwise I'll start 2016 in depression mode.
I gladly signed the petition. Fracking is an insult to the earth, resulting in earthquakes and contaminated water. The EPA is falling down on the job yet again, but their funding has been cut and employees dismissed by the Republicans. They don't want the energy companies to be disturbed by "needless" worries from the public.
Petition above signed.

You will need to read about the 8 dangerous side effects of fracking via the link above.
Personally: Fracking should be banned everywhere and made illegal! The Earth itself is running out of fresh and clean water.
Thanks all! Lona has had her fill. So have I. I've had my fill of Republicans!
