I don’t know why Republicans are so in love with enforcing climate change. Ok, actually, I do. Republicans love the huge bundles of secret cash that they get from corporate criminals, who think nothing of destroying our earth en exchange for more dirty profit.
The Senate voted on Tuesday to block President Obama’s tough new climate change regulations, hoping to undermine his negotiating authority before a major international climate summit meeting in Paris this month.
The Senate resolution, which passed 52 to 46, would scuttle a rule that would significantly cut heat-trapping carbon emissions from existing coal-fired power plants. That Environmental Protection Agency rule, released in August, is the centerpiece of Mr. Obama’s efforts to address climate change. A second resolution, which also passed 52 to 46, would strike a related E.P.A. rule intended to freeze construction of future coal-fired power plants.
Three Democrats from states in which coal plays a major role in the economy, Senators Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Donnelly of Indiana, broke party ranks to vote in favor of the resolutions.
But three moderate Republicans, two up for re-election next year, Senators Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Mark S. Kirk of Illinois, as well as Senator Susan Collins of Maine, broke from their party to vote against the resolutions and back the environmental regulations.
If the resolutions reach the president’s desk, Mr. Obama has promised a veto… [emphasis added]

I think the author has it right when he says Republicans want to undermine Obama’s negotiating authority. To intentionally sabotage the ability of President Obama to conduct foreign policy is criminal sedition.

Do they even know who they are pandering to any more? The Koch brothers haven't endorsed any of the presidential candidates yet…is this action for anticipated future rewards rather than payment for past campaign donations?

Great rhetorical(?) question, and the answer is YES.
…"is this action for anticipated future rewards rather than payment for past campaign donations?" YES, you bet, just as Albert Speer wrote that a lot of the Holocaust efforts were not ordered by Hitler, but were his apparatchiks, we might call them today, who were "…working toward the Fuhrer."
These assholes are working toward their standard big donors, who can be expected to be in the fossil fuel industry, at the least. This obviously includes the Koch Boys, whose union busting puppet, Scott Walker, is soooo much presidential candidate history!
Excellent!!
GOP = Pimps for billionaires.
Utterly disgusting. We're talking about regulations that touch upon all life, upon the future of our planet including our existence on it as a species and the GOP is swiping these more stringent EPA regulations from the table just to cross Obama? The GOP is playing with millions of lives in America in the hope that Obama can't negotiate a Climate Change deal that is in the interest of all people across the planet.
I won't even discuss what it means for wildlife and different environments on earth, that is really the last thing the GOP cares about. However, when they were attacking Obamacare time and time again, it also became clear they don't care about American lives either. So it can't be a surprise that they are now trying to undermine Obama's negotiation authority. What they do not understand is that by doing so they are undermining America's authority, or what is left of it after their reaction to the nuclear deal with Iran and the attention the Clown's car has drawn. And by doing so they're trying to make sure the international climate summit meeting will flop, just as their masters want it to, putting the future of our children and grandchildren and the lives of many around the globe at peril.
Of course Obama wil veto it the resolutions, and that is good for the EPA and the American environment on a short time basis. But all other leaders in Paris will know about it, and know that any promise he makes in his negotiations here may go out of the window as soon as a new presidents sits down in the Oval Office. Sure, that may be the case for all leaders there, but nowhere in the world is "the opposition" so foolhardily denying responsibility for climate change. This GOP action is unforgivable.
Nobody could be more spot-on than you are, Lona.
Mark Kirk must really be scared of Tammy Duckworth. I suspect he is right to be. I hope she cleans his clock. Joe Manchin I have never liked or trusted. I do feel sorry for Heitkamp – in a wat also for South Dakota since she is the best they could do, but the fact appears to be that she IS the best they could do. Donnelly – meh.
If only we could COUNT on the GOP to vote against everything Obama wants just because he wants it – we could rapidly scuttle the TPP. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work that way. I tried that argument on my rep and all it got me was onto his mailing lists. No, I am not reading them, but even the subject lines are bad enough. Someone really needs to invent compostable barf bags to cut down on the waste. There were two separate missives today about refugees. Well, at least he's out of luck there. It's not his call. (It's not Hickenlooper's call either, but for what it's worth he is standing by welcoming refugees.)
Heitkamp is the nest we could do in that area. Manchin is a Republican, but he still counts toward a future Democretic majority.
Panderer, cowardly and selfish, seditionist(s), indeed. Christian? Probably never were.
If there is such a thing as Karma, Mitch (who needs to give back that name) will return as a dung beetle!
Love that, Mitch, but he all ready is a dung beatle.
Not a dung turtle?
You're a Mitch, but not a Bought Bitch Mitch.
Much as I would enjoy seeing that, they will never be charged with sedition. For some reason much of our our country has gone crazy Republican. Fear mongers do the best work , don't they? We know Manchin is a DINO, don't know much about the other two. Mitch stated at the beginning of Obama's first term that his goal was to prevent him from having a second term. Since that didn't happen, he will block any thing that the President proposes.
I know!
AS the saying goes. "STUPID IS WHAT STUPID DOES" but they are ALL getting rich!. ( and you think that their perfidy is moved by science?.DREAM ON.)
Sad, but true!
