Before the serious stuff starts today, I thought we should have a little fun at Trey Gowdy’s expense.  Lord knows he’s caused enough trouble investi-hating Hillary ["investi-hating" is NOT mine – stolen, but will repeatedly use!] with his “Benghazi Inquisition”.

Since neither Lynn nor I can create a Poll, we’ll just have to do it as an “In-Comment Vote” for you to decide from whom Trey Gowdy was separated at birth:

[1]

Draco Malfoy

… The cowardly bully in the "Harry Potter" series

Trey-Gowdy_Draco-Malfoy

OR

[2]

The Banjo-playing Boy

… The talented savant in “Deliverance”

Trey-Gowdy_Banjo-Kid_Deliverance

Bamjp-Playing-Kid_Deliverance

We can rest assured that the Rethuglicans sole intent today will be to ferret out answers to the tragedy at Benghazi.

After all, as Monty Python so aptly noted, “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition”.

  1. LOL!  Trey means three so I choose the third option…

    • Well, actually "Trey Gowdy" happens to be French … for "Very gaudy"

And of course we all know that "gaudy" means "Extravagantly showy to the point of being tasteless"

(Boy, did his parents get his name right, or what?  And I'm sure Lynn can back me up on the French as "je ne parle pas bien francais")

      • Ahhhhhh==you shuffle the deck to come up aces instead of treys

      • ADDENDUM:

With the hearings only ~ 1.5 hours underway (assuming they started on time), I just want to be on the record that I do NOT think Hillary is going to "wipe the floor" w/ the Rethugllicans – or even going to try that tactic.

I think her strategy will be to rise above the fray.

BUT when they get down in the mud (and you know they will … they just can't help themselves), I expect to see some sharp elbows from HRC.  Gowdy may have been a federal prosecutor, but Hillary has been through similar "Trials by Fire" for decades.  My money is on her!

      • I did not find the etymology for Trey Gowdy, however I did for gaudy

        gaud·y1

        ˈɡôdē/

        adjective

adjective: gaudy; comparative adjective: gaudier; superlative adjective: gaudiest

extravagantly bright or showy, typically so as to be tasteless.

        "silver bows and gaudy ribbons"

        synonyms:
garish, lurid, loud, overbright, glaring, harsh, violent, showy, glittering, brassy, ostentatious; More

        antonyms:
        drab, tasteful

        Origin

late 15th century: probably from gaud + -y1.

        gaud·y2

        ˈɡôdē/

        noun  BRITISH

        noun: gaudy; plural noun: gaudies

a celebratory reunion dinner or entertainment held by a college.

        Origin

mid 16th century (in the sense ‘rejoicing, a celebration’): from Latin gaudium ‘joy,’ or fromgaude ‘rejoice!,’ imperative of gaudere .

This from another website which I can't find now.

        gaudy (adj.)

"showy, tastelessly rich," c. 1600; earlier "joyfully festive" (1580s), probably a re-adjectivizing of gaudy (n.) "large, ornamental bead in a rosary" (early 14c.) via the noun gaud + -y (2.). In early Modern English it also could mean "full of trickery" (1520s).

Or possibly the adjective is from or influenced by Middle English noun gaudegrene (early 14c.), name of a yellowish-green color or pigment, originally of dye obtained from the weld plant (see weld (n.1)). This Germanic plant-name became gaude in Old French, and thus the Middle English word. Under this theory, the sense shifted from "weld-dye" to "bright ornamentation."

As a noun, "feast, festival" 1650s, from gaudy day "day of rejoicing" (1560s).

As to Trey being related to the French très meaning "very", it is possible. Certainly, the pronunciation is the same.  The French word for gaudy is criard (adjective).  Gowdy's full name is Harold Watson Gowdy III, so where the Trey came from is anybody's guess.  Maybe it comes from "very bad" which is what his mother exclaimed when she dropped him on his head as an infant.

  2. Draco Malfoy and Trey Gowdy could be taken for brothers, even twins.

Spanish Inquisition sounds more like it and it most resembles this "investi-hating Hillary" and it is just that: politically motivated to make Hillary look bad to the voters.

This is a continuing witch hunt saga of Benghazi, # 8, which has costed and wasted  the taxpayers millions of dollars (4.5 million). The GOP were responsible for cutting funds for security prior to Benghazi. By the way, Trey Gowdy plans to retire when his term is up. Best for him is to resign before his term is up.

  3. My vote is for Draco.  Although I admit he has a face that cansuggest a lot of people.  If you can call them people.  QUITE scary.

  4. I'm glad for the opportuity to watch some Python!

I like the way Jim P. puts it.

We just have more evidence that the GOPigs can't govern, don'twant to even actually try: I vote for the banjo player.

  5. I vote for The Spanish Inquisition. It sure sounded like it. I watched the entire thing on MSNBC. Hillary will be on the Rachel Maddow Show tonight and I'm looking forward to watching.

  6. I think he has elements of both, but a stronger tie to Draco Malfoy.

  7. Trey Howdy is such an a$$!!!! I watched some of that stuff while I was in the doctor's office today. I just cringed EVERY TIME he talked! He was so hateful!!!!!

But I will vote 2, because that is the flick I am most familiar with and it goes with him so well!

  8. Although he does resemble the Banjo Boy, I would have to vote for #1, as Gowdy has not clue where he is going with this inquistion, only that he wants to harm Clinton as much as possible.  In the process, he is costing the tax payers a small fortune.  Of course, he will still collect his paycheck.

  9. Definately number 1….he is that mean and evil…yet…..with just a touch of number 2 thrown in for good measure.

  10. The idiot savant was born this way and can't help himself, so I think it's not fair to compare him to Trey Gowdy, so it's Draco by default for me.

I heard that they grilled Hillary Clinton for an inhuman 11 hours, a number not even the Grand Inquisition had recorder, and they got absolutely nowhere. She didn't lose her temper as she was known to do in the past and has only shown the world she's president material. This inquisition will bite the Republicans in the a$$ just as the PP-inquisition did.

    • Sorry, Dutch got the better of me, we call a committee a commission, so please read "committee".

  11. Thanks for the Monty Python, by the way. Any excuse is good enough to show a bit of Python, still my favorites after all these years, but this particular sketch of the Spanish Inquisition (it's a recurring theme) shows the insanity of the Benghazi commission, or any other Republican driven commission, in all its glorious detail.

  12. i did love the Monty python sketch , i immediately saw any of the three in the sketch being replaced by republician prez hopefuls .

  13. Enjoyed the Monty Python clip. I vote for Draco Malfoy.  He was a cunning, sneaky young man at Hogwarts. Gowdy could be his evil twin. Draco always tried to undermine Harry in the movies.

    Already signed petition, thanks Jim.

Thank you, Joanne and Nameless for this post.
