Well, here I am and very, very late.  I took advantage of Lona's proferred cat nap from yesterday and ended up sleeping through until now, 12:30 pm on Thursday.  Not good as I have a dentist appointment at 2 pm. Fortunately it is close by.  My furbabes didn't even wake me up!  Have a great day everyone!

Puzzle — Today’s took me 3:08 (average 5:04). To do it, click here. How did you do? For those that don't know, we always do the 48 piece classic.

Short Takes

Huffington Post — Conservative Party advertising targeted at Chinese and Punjabi-speaking voters in Vancouver and Toronto is raising concerns in the Liberal Party.

The advertisement characterises Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau as supporting the sale of marijuana to children, and the establishment of safe-injection sites and neighbourhood brothels.

"It's absolutely not true," said Harjit Sajjan, the Liberal candidate for Vancouver South.

This kind of fear based campaigning is much like the fear based rhetoric that is the hallmark of Conservatives and Harper.  Why is it that conservatives, no matter Canada or the US, feel the need to be so fear based when addressing constituents? Read on to see other instances of Harper's fear tactics.  The election is Monday 19/10/2015.

Raw Story — MSNBC host Rachel Maddow went from being bemused on Wednesday over Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) broadcasting himself on the campaign trail to suggesting some sympathy for him.

Unfortunately, I can't embed the video for you so you'll have to watch it at Raw Story.  The phrase "war weary" comes to mind.  There is no doubt in my mind that political campaigning is very tiring . . . being on top of the game while in public, the travel, often being away from home.  But the minute a candidate shows too much weariness, electors are going to start to wonder about their fitness for the job.  I think that is what is happening to Paul.  That and the circus that is the GOP right now.

The New Yorker — In a major slip that may prove fatal to his Presidential ambitions, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont treated his principal opponent for the Democratic nomination with dignity and respect on Tuesday night.

Me thinks that Andy is back to truth in reporting!  What a novel idea!

  1. Bernie's treatment of Hilary and others at the debate reminded me of the word statesman, something we used to require and expect of people elected to POTUS.

  2. 4:42  Lamp and mirror also nicely synchronized.

HuffPo – Well, lies and the lying liars who tell them.  They can be halfway around the world before the truth puts on its shoes.  And if you're going to lie to win elections, it might as well be a good strong one.  And nothing motivates people like fear.

Raw Story – "I would throw everybody out, myself included" – doesn't that sound a lot like "I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member"?

New Yorker – As you already pointed out, Lynn, fear is so prevalent in campaigning that dignity and respect is like a breath of concentrated oxygen.  I find it very motivating.  I suspect I am not alone in this.

Universe – Oh my.  With the scratching post away for the weekend, what will become of the furniture?

  3. This was a cute little bit of relaxation. However, I still can't get under 10 minutes on solving the puzzles…peace.

  4. Huff Po: The conservative party, Harper and his harlots, should be sued for false advertising immediately.

Raw Story:  Rand Paul, also known as Idiot, Son of Idiot, Named after Idiot, should resign to the fact that he does not have the support nor the money to become POTUS. Rand needs to be honest with himself and gracefully drop out of the race for the GOP nomination. If Rand does not want to be a Senator anymore, he should resign that position and let someone else, preferably a Demo, take his place.

New Yorker: Bernie is like a breath of fresh air as he conducted himself, quite well,  in the recent Democratic debate. A Statesman.

  5. Thanks Lynn (sorry for absence – still kidney stones, doctor says drink lots of water – I hope he doesn't mean tap water, I have looked up the analysis, horrifying, and it doesn't even address glyphosate!).

Huff Post – can't they be sued for false advertising?!  Mind you the election is only a few days away, so they think their lies will win. Please God they don't.

New Yorker – we should all have people with the excellent, wonderful and most admirable qualities of Bernie Sanders representing us!  As JL A and Jim have said – Bernie is a statesman – the world needs a whole lot more of them too!

My Universe – oh that darling!

  6. HuffPo: I agree, can't they have those ads removed? It's insulting to those ethnic communities.

New Yorker: What a gentleman!! Love Bernie!

My Universe: Adorable, I love Simon, and the little one too.

Thanks, Lynn, have a good day.

  7. Wow, I really need to get the dosage of those catnaps down, don't I, Lynn. I don't want to be responsible for you missing any appointments or even worse, us missing out on any of your excellent posts. TomCat will be so proud of you when he sees how well you and the team are keeping the site running smoothly.

Huffingtron Post: It would be one thing if conservative fear drives were based on things that would warrant fear like the fear of snakes, which is generally useful in humans even when there are no snakes, or the fear of a government run by  only Tea Partiers, but driving people into a state of disorder with anxiety induced by lies, is another. Psychologists and Psychiatrists use the term free-floating anxiety for a debilitating feeling of intense concern and fear, that is present and felt without an obvious cause. The wrong right wing is master of linking primal fears to irrational thought processes and whipping people into mass hysteria about things that aren't there, thought up or myths. All under the flag of "freedom of speech". However, if someone put an ad in the newspaper for a product and the whole ad is nothing but lies, that person would be forced to retract that ad and, at least here, the same would hold for a political ad. Wouldn't that hold true for Canada also?

Raw Story: I couldn't get the video to run, but from several stills of Rachel's face I got the impression that her "sympathy" for Paul Ryan is very much tongue-in- cheek. Because, really… feel sympathy for this arch-liar? Come one!. I hope the next few days he ages another 20 years so he's even too worn out to be re-elected to the Senate. And another one bites the dust. But wait, wasn't Ryan hinting in being interested in the Speaker's job after all a few days ago? Darn.

The New Yorker: Is Andy having second thoughts about our Bernie? “If he treats people with decency and civility now, what kind of President would he be?” Certainly not one that would last long if Americans vote a Decent Democrat into the white house but leave Congress in the hands of a mob of Tea Partiers.

My Universe: LOL Been there.  I once found a dead mouse in the suitcase I had started packing the night before. I was very lucky to find it before I locked the suitcase and went on holiday with it.

    • Got my Pauls mixed up (again). Replace Paul Ryan by Rand Paul and scratch the remark about Ryan being interested in the Speaker's job. Paukl Ryan may be, but Rand Paul isn't, I think.

      • Paul Ryan says he isn't interested, and I am pretty sure I believe him – but there are a lot of people trying to draft him.  No on has mentioned Rand Paul.  Come to think of it, no one has mentioned Ron Paul either.  It is confusing, isn't it?!!!11!?
