Imagine, if you will, a serial killer that goes through an area claiming several victims.  Now I ask you this.  How can the states in the region take the necessary steps to apprehend and prosecute the killer to protect their other citizens, as long as the governments of those states continue to insist that the killer does not exist?

0526FloodRecord-setting rains left officials in Texas and Oklahoma scrambling to assess the scope of the damage and destruction Monday as an emergency coordinator told reporters that a dozen people were missing in one county.

The 12 people missing in Hays County, Texas, come from families who had gathered for the long weekend, said Ken Bell, emergency coordinator for San Marcos, one of the cities hardest hit by the storms and flooding.

The group likely includes children, Bell said. The county still has Internet problems, and cell phone networks are overwhelmed.

"People outside our community know more about what’s going on than people inside our community," Bell said.

The severe weather has left at least four people dead, including one in Texas and three in Oklahoma, and washed away hundreds of homes. The storms are easing up, but it doesn’t mean the threat is gone…

Here’s the video.

First, let me express my condolences to and prayers for all who have been harmed, all in harm’s way, and all who love them.

Even as the effects of global climate change are killing their citizens, the governments of Texas and Oklahoma, along with the rest of the Republican Party, continue to claim that this killer does not exist.

  1. The President has said we have more to fear from climate change than from ISIS – I suspect the people in Texas might agree with him…. at least the ones who are affected right now.

  2. Would that it were not so – but this is right in line with governments' uttterances for a very long time.  Pesticides and herbicides are not toxic to humans – fracking, pipelines, oil trains are not dangerous – I'm sure everyone can think of more, all the way back to Agent Orange is perfectly safe – and even farther, to asbestos is safe – lead paint is safe – the list goes on and on.

  3. Within the last week, reports have come out about "the blob", a 1,000 km long blob of warm water in the Pacific Ocean that sits roughly off the coasts of British Columbia and Washington state.  This has contributed substantially to warmer and drier than usual winters in BC and is expected to contribute to a very active wildfire season.

This news from India.  http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/india-heat-wave-death-toll-climbs-to-750-1.3087648?cmp=rss  There is a heat wave in India where temperatures are 45 – 48 C (113 – 120 F) and 750 people have died since 15/04/15 as a result.  That heat will compact soil etc just in time for the flooding of the monsoons that are expected in early June.  Then the death toll will continue to rise as a result of extreme weather.

Now the flooding and continued rain in Texas and Oklahoma taking lives, human and animal, and property.  We have also heard reports of unusual weather in New Mexico, drought in California, and the list goes on.

This is a global problem.  Only the woefully ignorant, and the politically and morally corrupt would deny the existence of climate change and global warming.  Doesn't Texas brag about everything being bigger in Texas? Add Oklahoma to that (and all other Republicanus/Teabaggerum) and you have the worst of the worst deniers and morons.  Perhaps these idiots should be charged with murder, or at the very least, negligent homocide!

I grieve for all those globally that lose their lives, and their families, because of global warming and climate change.

  4. AND, how can they keep denying it in the face of the disastrous weather events we are having?  Makes no sense.  No matter how large the campaign donations from the energy companies are, our politicians will suffer the same fate as the rest of us if something is not done about climate change, and soon.

  5. The Pentagon and NASA have added their voices to the scientists, the Presiden, and the Pope who continue to warn us about climate change. The people and their elected officials think they know better. Too bad everyone has to suffer for their obstinacy.

  6. Hugs to all!! Bye!!

  7. TY TC – sorry I'm late, up to my ears.  I do so agree with you and with you all – there are none so blind as those who will NOT see!  Climate change deniers always say that there are always some odd things happening in the weather – but never so many, never so extreme in the past as now.  Trouble is that the Right Wing always has been a demented belief system, rather than a logical system of thought, therefore evidence just will not shift it, and logic has no power – God help us all.

  8. It's like an old Sci-Fi B flick from the 1950's. No one listens to the scientists until after the monster attacks, which is always to late to stop the destruction and killing.
