In more than one spot of late, I have made the comment that I consider the DSCC pulling finding from Mary Landrieu’s runoff campaign an act of cowardice. I disagree with her in a big bunch of ways, but I still support her candidacy. However, she has come up with a desperation ploy so costly, that, even if it would work, her job isn’t worth the price.
…This week, though, Keystone XL has become a symbol for moderate Democrats like Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) — a demonstration that they can serve as the bridge between the new Democratic minority and the Republican majority in the next Congress.
"Si se puede!" Landrieu said Wednesday while pushing for the pipeline on the Senate floor, re-purposing another bit of progressive politics (this time from the United Farmworkers) in service of a project that’s not very popular with the left. That’s intentional. Landrieu faces a run-off against Republican Bill Cassidy next month — and is in deep trouble. Seizing upon the pipeline as a way to shift the politics in that race, though, is almost certainly not going to work.
Landrieu was joined Wednesday by other red-state Democrats to advocate for passage of a measure that would side-step the president on granting approval to the pipeline. (Since it crosses the Canadian border, the State Department has the ability to grant or reject a permit for the project — giving the administration an effective veto over it.) The subtext of the election was central to the floor speeches from Landrieu, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.); Manchin specifically noted how valuable Landrieu’s leadership on the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources had been, reinforcing the leadership that has been one of the central arguments to her campaign…

This Hail Mary desperation strategy could not possibly save Landrieu’s seat, and I knew why as soon as I heard it, but Rachel Maddow explains it far better than I could.
If you can’t watch it here, try the direct link to the video. If that doesn’t work, I found a partial clip on YouTube.
What really irks me is that they have time for this vote, but claim there is no time to confirm Loretta Lynch. I think Harry Reid is returning to his returning to his Nevada Leg Hound ways in which he humps a few Republican legs, begs, whines, rolls over and plays dead., His willingness to waste the lame duck session makes me suspect that he made a “gentlemen’s agreement with Bought Bitch Mitch, under which Harry promised to do nothing and Mitch promised to be nice, just like he has falsely promised so many times before.
There is only one way to achieve even tiny successes, when these Republicans are in power. Fight tooth and nail for every scrap. Every time in the last 15 years they have promised quid pro quo, they lied.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
This is why the American people were becoming cynical. And now that more Democrats are letting the republian/teaparty win without a fight. Well if you were cynical yesterday tomorrow will be a slam dunk for cynicism. Like Maddow says "whip eeee: Who better to throw under the bus than President Obama and our party?
Someone please tell me how the Keystone XL Pipeline helps Louisianna. I can't figure it out.
Harry Reid has already rolled over and played dead if you ask me. He's done humping Thug's legs.
If I follow Rachel Maddow's video correctly – has Mary Landrieu lost her mind – everything she is trying to do will hurt Democrats and benefit Repuglicons!
Patty There is no good reason for keystone Xl Pipeline . I believe they have people come up and testify under oath try to decieve the American people by saying this will create jobs. When in fact if you are American all you get is tar and more runing of our farms (which we already have drought and no crops. Also Canada will not take any responsibility when our country has been ruined. It will only be going thru our counry. I hope Reid has a plan? Sen. Mary Landrieu is only after a vote and which she will help the republians and put us, our party and Obama under the bus
I know all of that. what I want to know is what the pipeline does for Louisiana. I can't think of a single positive thing it does for America except create a piddly amount of construction jobs for a little while.
She and the party are listening to the advice of why they no longer have the Senate instead of what will bring her voters.

Statement by Former Vice President Gore on joint US-China climate announcement November 11, 2014 : 10:53 PM
Today's joint announcement by President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping to reduce their nations' carbon emissions is a major step forward in the global effort to solve the climate crisis. Much more will be required – including a global agreement from all nations – but these actions demonstrate a serious commitment by the top two global polluters.
President Xi Jinping's announcement that Chinese emissions will peak around 2030 is a signal of groundbreaking progress from the world’s largest polluter. President Obama's commitment to reduce US emissions despite legislative obstruction is a continuation of his strong leadership on the issue.
By demonstrating their willingness to work together, the leaders of the United States and China are opening a new chapter in global climate negotiations. This bold leadership comes at a critical time for our planet when the costs of carbon pollution affect our lives more and more each day.
Just one point. (after some repug nit wit got it wrong, saying that the USA needs all the oil in order to import less!!!. Tar sands oil is NOT for the USA> It will go abroad ,after refining in Texas. . only "benefit!.?. Terrible environmental damage. But who cares. the USA worships MONEY.
I am not convinced that this is her idea, but whether it is or it isn't, she is not the only one to have lost her mind. Not that we didn't know that!
Landrieu has evidently taken some very bad advice. Manchin is hardly a democrat these days. He threw Pres. Obama under the bus in the recent election. Why don't we have people in our party who will stand firm and not cave to the Republicans all the time? Makes no sense. The Keystone pipeline will only benefit the Americans who have invested in it, more breaks for millionaires. We won't even get the dirty oil from it. Another Republican lie, that it will make us independent of oil producing nations.
I forgot to add, my Representative, Hal Rogers, REp. has all ready voted FOR the pipeline.
Also, how did the doctor keep a straight face while the senator was explaining to him about Indians in Kansas relating to him? Did the senator not know the man is a US citizen and has lived here all his life?
During the midterms, too many Dems showed their colours when they distanced themselves from Obama and they paid a price by losing control of the Senate. Voters want representatives with confidence who know what is goingt on and are willing to fight for what is right. Landrieu it seems to me is fighting for her seat, not the people. She will go down in flames.
Thanls all. I overslept big time?
