I’m writing for tomorrow day 193.  It’s very early in the morning, and I could not sleep because I feel so pissed off at Care2 that it took 22 attempts to upload an article.  No doubt, I’ll be exhausted when I return from my medical appointment.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:11 (average 4:30).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: She Says 4 Words At The Very Beginning, And That’s All You Need To Know

This is right in line with what I was discussing in prison last week at the Victims Impact meeting. At the same time, the political party that considers bullying others their Constitutional right must be removed from all elected offices.

From Think Progress: On Tuesday, Judge Christopher Brasher of the Fulton County Superior Court denied a petition from civil rights advocates to force Georgia’s Secretary of State to process an estimated 40,000 voter registrations that have gone missing from the public database.

Though early voting is well underway in the state, Judge Brasher called the lawsuit “premature,” and said it was based on “merely set out suspicions and fears that the [state officials] will fail to carry out their mandatory duties.”

Angela Aldridge, an organizer with the group 9 to 5 Atlanta Working Women who has been working to register voters for several months, told ThinkProgress she was “furious” when she learned of the outcome: “That impedes people’s rights,” she said. “People need information before they go out to vote and they don’t even know if they’re registered or not. They were discouraged, upset, kind of frazzled, not really knowing what was going on. What can you even say to people who want to vote but possibly can’t? They might get disengaged and say, ‘Why vote? It doesn’t matter.’ It’s really disheartening.”

One Republican judge just stole the right to vote to 40,000 Americans.

From NY Times: It would be the Wall Street equivalent of a parole violation: Just two years after avoiding prosecution for a variety of crimes, some of the world’s biggest banks are suspected of having broken their promises to behave.

A mixture of new issues and lingering problems could violate earlier settlements that imposed new practices and fines on the banks but stopped short of criminal charges, according to lawyers briefed on the cases. Prosecutors are exploring whether to strengthen the earlier deals, the lawyers said, or scrap them altogether and force the banks to plead guilty to a crime.

That effort, unfolding separately from a number of well-known investigations into Wall Street, has ensnared several giant banks and consulting firms that until now were thought to be in the clear.

Why is it that I’m not surprised? I’ll tell you. One of the biggest failings of the DOJ under Obama is that not one single Bankster is in prison. As long as they get away with their crimes with fines far smaller than their obscene profits, where is the incentive for them to stop? Perhaps if we treated these millionaires the way we treat poor people that rob a convenience store, we’d be better off.

  1. 4:18 average unchanged.  Based on my track record, the force was kinda sorta with me.  A little bit.

SO sorry about the Care2 glitch monster.  Clearly it was an epic battle, but you won.

Upworthy – Yes, abuse comes from the abused.  And abusers have to heal.  Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I didn't see much of victims have to heal and need help too.  Certainly it does give some insight into the Republican party.  Anyone want to tackle the task of helping the judge in the next story heal?

Think Progress – Sure wish the DOJ would jump in.  Even if it's already kinda late.

    NY Times – NSSWWYFC?

    Cartoon – Any time, kitty.

  2. 2:43 May the force be with you. Or is that the farce?

  3. Upworthy ~ Sometimes this is true. But there are others who bully just because they hate.

Think Progress ~ I am still amazed that they are being aloowed to do this. Maybe outraged is a better word. I have signed a petition to have the DOJ reverse this.

NY Times ~ What is a promise to a banker?

Cartoon ~ Keep all your Kiites and doggies inside tonight. There are some evil elements that roam the streets on All Hallow's Eve.

  4. Video makes me think of what a couple of pastors who went south in the 1960's to support MLK–he could succeed because he honestly loved those "rednecks" while they were there more in opposition to them.

Latest petition on Georgia is for a DOJ investigation.

Perhaps now the idea of breaking up those too big to fail will regain some real traction.

I was given a cat crossing warning sign for by my front walk.  First years here I sat on my front steps with my black cats awaiting trick or treaters (the cats would disappear when the children got close).

  5. Well, there's Good News & Bad News …

Good: The leaves are raked; the grass is cut; the flowerpot containers are all cleaned out & put away; the lawn has been core-areated (I HATE that job!!!) and the last application of fall fertilizer has been put down.

Bad: I'm in high "curmudgeon dudgeon" tonight.  As a pediatrician, I've always gotten a kick out of Halloween … BUT I'm heading up to Illinois tomorrow for the FINAL packing WRT my Mom's move to Assisted Living.  We meed\t w/ the folks Monday moring to do the paperwork (and $$$) to take possession; Tuesday the movers take her stuff to the new abode; we meet w/ the Realtor to do the paperwork to sell her home; Thursday the auction people come to pack up what remains; Friday they move it out.

… AND my cat HATES strangers/doorbells/most-anyone-other-than-me-AND-he's-NOT-ALL-that-fond-of-me!

So I turned out all the lights and we hunkered down (he lets me know when the doorbell rings) in the hopes I'll have a better chance of getting some sleep to help w/ corraling the critter for tomorrow's travels.  (Once we're on the road, he's fine – it's capturing and caging the critter tha's a challenge.)

At any rate … "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"

  6. Wow, 22 attempts to up load would po anyone.  I have seen comments from several other friends who are having a similar problem.  Glad you hung in there.

Upworthy:  It is true, Hurt people, hurt other people.  Most bullies are insecure and need to feel superior to someone else.  That said, the one being bullied has a hard time turning it around especially if they are a child.  My son was bullied in elementary school until one day he accidentally cracked a bully in the nose.  He ended up in te principal's office over it, but afterward, he became friends with the bully. I am not saying this is a solution, but it worked that time.

Think Progress:  That is a disgrace and there should be some recourse.  Forty thousand people have been disenfranchised on the whim of one judge.  He should be impeached.

NY Times:  The Wall Street gangsters and big banks should be prosecuted.  They got huge bail outs and instead of helping the economy, refused loans, refused to renegotiate mortgages and gave huge bonuses to their biggest crooks.

Love the Cartoon.  My Sparky, Oreo's brother, is a black cat, but he has a white tip on the end of his tail.  He has been rowdy tonight and has crossed my path over and over.

  7. Thanks all.  With just a little coal dust, I get to be the black cat.  Democrats may kiss just above the tail.  Republicans… a little lower. 😉

    • Be careful!  The Republicanus/Teabaggers may use a probe . . . orsomething equally as unappealing!
