I’m writing for tomorrow, day 90.  I’m still quite sore.  I have exercises to do between times, but the walking between home and bus stops and office total over a mile, in addition to the workout, stresses the same muscle groups.  No pain no gain, and I must be gaining plenty.  I will be AWOL much of this week,. because Tuesday and Thursday are both prison volunteer days.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:35 (average 4:19).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Testing the political waters in Iowa today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that if he is elected President, he would bring the flow of illegal immigrants over the U.S.-Mexico border to a virtual standstill.

“There are ways of keeping people from getting to where they want to go,” Christie said, claiming that he was the only Republican hopeful with the hands-on experience necessary to fix the border crisis.

The New Jersey governor was vague about how he would halt traffic over the border, but exuded confidence that he was the right man for the job.

I’m sure PIGnocchio would not care any more for the people who die in that scenario than he does for the ones he killed on the off-ramp from the GW bridge.

From Daily Kos: Hmmm….

KELLY: OK. The controversy there is that some women abused that when it was allowed and would get a doctor to say, yes, her health requires a late term abortion. And then this happened in the case of Dr. Tiller, who wound up murdered, that he was providing late term abortions based on health concerns, when you had a viable fetus, a baby, growing in the third trimester. And no one really wants to return to those days, Patricia, do they?

Well I must admit this is the first time I have heard this reasoning.

You have to really have a twisted mind to come up with this type of perverted logic.

Translation:

Women who have late term abortions for health reasons endanger the lives of their physician, and if they keep doing it then that can only result in one thing. More dead physicians. Now you don’t want their blood on your hands, now do you?

Here’s the voting rights version. Black people should not be allowed to vote, because, when they first began trying to exercise that right, racists murdered civil rights activists, and no one really wants to return to those days, do they? Talk about caving-in to criminal demands!!

He wasn’t as funny as usual, but he sure was spot on.

  1. Bill is quite right – crime rates have gone down both in the US and the UK – yet the police have got more and more and more weapons in both countries.  WHY has West Springfield, Mass got two grenade launchers???!!!

  2. I could use some of that sauce on the outside.  I seem to have pulled a muscle, and unfortunately it is one I breathe with, and I am doing everything v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w-l-y.

New Yorker – This was posted yestersay withoug being labeled and underlined as satire, and many took it seriously.  I can see why!  But I was sure myself that Christie has neither the brains nor the guts to try to take his rotten lemon and make lemonade.

Daily Kos – Kudos to La Feminista, who did the translation.  It's so badly expressed it could mean amost anything.  One wonders, (a) are her thought processes really that murky, (b) does she express herself that way so no matter how a sane person understands it she can say that's not what she meant, or (c) all of the above?

YouTube – Oh, I don't know, I thought it was pretty funny.  But I think I can tell you why the Tea Party is not up in arms against it.  They haven't grasped that they are every bit as vulnerable to police aggression as Damn Libruls, and as long as it's used against Damn Libruls, it's OK.  Besides, if anybody tries it against them, they'll bring out their Organized Militia, that's what they'll do.  Look at Cliven Bundy.

Cartoon – Wasn't it nice when there was real science and it was respected?

  3. 3:10  The sauce may be hot, but my puzzle solving is cold.

  4. And WRT your cartoon – I can still vividly remember watching it.  What a thrill!

But I still think "The Onion" best captured the nation's true emotions of the moment:

    Holy Sh!t

    Man Walks On

    F^cking Moon

(Daily Kos has a nice pictorial remembrance – along with the Onion banner headline)

    • Thanks Nameless!  I remember that day well.  I had been making model rockets since the time of John Glen's trip.  I had rockets all over my room and I was going to be an astronaut.  How dare a girl dare to dream like that.  That was then.  Now the time has past but I wonder what is still waiting for us "out there".  I just hope it isn't a bunch of Republicanus/Teabaggers.  They have already, along with other global conservatives, wrecked this planet!

  5. Puzzle — 3:16  I hate hot and spicey so I was running in the other direction!

The New Yorker — When I started reading this the first time in my in-box, the first thing I thought of was the bridge debacle.  Keep reading and there it was.  Christie is going to rue the day he tried to play London Bridge! Petty little pissant!

Daily Kos — Megyn Kelly has to be the most non sensical individual ever.  Between her and Renee Ellmers (R – NC), they do the entire gender a disservice.

YouTube — I am sure he was good.  Couldn't hear it.

Cartoon — “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind

  6. Those muscles get really angry, don't they?

The New Yorker:  Your comment says it all.

Daily Kos:  Are we really sure Megyn Kelly is a woman?  If she is….. barf.

Youtube:  Bill is soooo right. I live between two small towns, one has a population of 3200, the other 4000, both police depts have enough equipment to take out a metropolis.  Why?

Cartoon:  My son took his first steps that day, always remember it for the significance for us all and for his big achievement.  I have to admit, I was more excited for him.

  7. Thanks all!  Rushing now!
