I’m writing for tomorrow, day 84. I’m feeling much recovered, but still sore and tired after yesterday’s volunteer meeting. I’ll probably run out of gas, so I’m getting this done before that happens. I thought the cravings were bad before the Chantix ran out. Grrr!
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:09 (average 4:07). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From Daily Kos: Oh, says Fox News. Oh, however could this have happened.
On the July 10 edition of Fox News’ Special Report with Bret Baier, Fox correspondent Mike Emanuel reported that "some prominent outside conservative voices have called for President Obama to be impeached" […]
While an on-screen image showed that Fox contributors Sarah Palin and Allen West were those "outside conservative voices" calling for impeachment, Emanuel dodged the uncomfortable truth that [those particular gawdawful] Fox contributors have been leading the impeachment that he reported on.
First off, the definition of "outsider" is stretched indeed, in you’re putting Sarah Palin and Allen West in those ranks.
This is typical of how the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, creates news with which to BS sheeple. One of them says something. Another quotes the first as an undisclosed reliable source.
From NY Times: As Israel’s air war against Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters in Gaza entered its sixth day on Saturday, a pair of bombings threw the difficulties of the campaign into painful relief: Israel bombed a mosque, which its aerial photos indicated was harboring a weapons cache, and a center for the disabled, killing two residents and wounding three, as well as a caretaker.
A separate strike on the house of a police commander killed at least 18 people, the highest toll so far this conflict, bringing the total number of dead to at least 140, Palestinian officials said.
For every Israeli killed by individual Palestinian terrorists, Israel kills scores of Palestinians by bombing civilian areas indiscriminately, Hamas then responds with crude rocket attacks, which Israel then uses in an attempt to justify their treaty violation by pursuing a one-state solution through attrition.
From AlterNet: WMD, who cares?
Now that the Bush-Cheney Iraq war has reached its logical and easily foreseeable conclusion of turning an entire nation into a failed state and terrorist haven, we don’t care quite as much about weapons of mass destruction falling into the wrong hands. That’s especially true over at Fox News, which, along with the rest if the media, is downplaying a letter to the UN from desperate people inside Iraq that ISIS walked off with radioactive material.
Here’s Fox’s lead [Faux Noise delinked]:
Iraqi jihadists have grabbed 88 pounds of uranium compounds from a Mosul University science lab, but U.S. and international weapons experts are downplaying the possibility the deadly toxins could be used to make a so-called "dirty bomb."
The last line of the story: Earlier this week, Iraq’s U.N. envoy said that the government had lost control of a former chemical weapons facility near Baghdad to "armed terrorist groups."
Scary stuff and time to reiterate: Obama effectively helped rid Syria of its entire chemical weapons stock this year, without firing a single Tomahawk.
Note that the uranium is depleted uranium compounds, not the stuff one uses to make dirty bombs. This is just the last of five media failures to correctly inform Americans that benefit the Republican Reich. Click through for the other four.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
2:51 Not bad.
2:47 It must be that touch of German bloodin my veins. The truth be told, there's a whole lot more French and English. Now you know why I am always arguing with myself!
The less said today the better about the German flag.
Daily Kos – Sarah Palin is an "outsider" in that no one "inside" wants her to run for anything. Allen West can't claim even that. But yes. and don't leave out that then the third and following talk about "multiple sources."
NY Times – Not much we can do about it from here except support Jewish Voices for Peace.
AlterNet – Of course turning an entire nation into a terrorist haven had the tremendous benefit to the Reich Wing that, between fear and distraction, people at home don't offer as much resistance to having their rights stripped away. This benefits all corporations, including AT&T, Verison, Time Warner, and Comcast. (Last day for comments to the FCC is tomorrow.) I could list more, but at my age I have too many things in my brain to remember.
Cartoon – Well, that's because Republicans are Tories, and would have fought fr the British. Patriotic Americans remember that, without the French, we would have lost our own Revolution.
P.S. When I quit smoking I didn't have limited mobility. That made it easier to, for example, go places smoning isn't allowed. and other distractions were more accessible. And I needed distraction. If I kept concentrating on it, even the positives, I was only making it harder for myself. (The best way to NOT think of a pink elephant is to pro-actively think of a blue hippopotamus, at least for me.) I was already pretty competent at distracting my brain, but I needed to distract my hands and my mouth. I think you are already using chewing gum some? Yes, in time it can make the jaw hurt some. For me it was well worth it. Then my hands – I did a lot of crocheting – I hadn't learned to knit yet then, that came later. I feel silly telling a cat maybe he can try playing with yarn. Maybe there is something though.
P.P.S. When I clicked through to Alternet to read the rest of the article, I found so many interesting headlines in the sidebar that I may never get out. Here's just one
http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/florida-congresswoman-sides-israeli-police-over-her-own-brutalized-teenage
I saw that interesting sidebar and will be posting some on Care2. , , well that is if you haven't beat me to it!
Isn't that Congress critter a real piece of work! I hope she is defeated in November.
Happy Bastille Day! Joyeux Quatorze Juillet! Bonne fête! (But I really don't think the French have a typical Bastille Day greeting – so I'll defer to Lynn.)
This is chuckle-worhy: A woman's t-shirt with a picture of Sarah Palin over one breast and Michele Bachmann over the other. And the inscription:
https://hipiseverything.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/america-needs-twit-reduction-surgery.jpg
5 words that have more truth in them than all the Faux Noise news broadcasts! That's funny Nameless!
I agree with you Nameless, no traditional greeting of which I am aware. Bastille Day is more commonly known as La Fête Nationale. There may be some celebrations in Québec, but the big celebration is La Fête de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste on 24 June each year. Here that is known as La Fête Nationale and originally was a religious holiday but has taken on a political/cultural tone.
What an UGLY pair of boobs!
Daily Kos ~ We all know how reliable Sarah and Adam are. The "news" doesn't have to be true to be reported.
NY Times ~ The aloso reported in their Entertainment section that Neil. Young and Crazy Horse have cancelled their Tel Aviv concert scheduled for later this week because of the possible danger involved.. The good thing about this is that he is donating to two organizations that teach music to Palestinian and Israeli cchildren simultaneously by enabling them to play music together. I aleays like the idea of this I first heard about it around 4 years ago and thought mybe the arts can heal this region. Wishful thinking? Probably. But it can't hurt.
Alternet ~ I really liked the "sexist underwear is showing" section.
Cartoon ~ American Fries with that?
TomCat,
have you noticed an improvement in your breathing and health since not smoking for nearly 3 months?
Yes.
Puzzle — 2:47 It must be that touch of German blood in my veins. The truth be told, there's a whole lot more French and English. Now you know why I am always arguing with myself!
Daily Kos — Faux Noise have been listening to voices in their heads, a sure sign that they are demented. And anyone who listens to Palin or West is very demented indeed!
NY Times — One of my favourite pictures is that of 2 young boys walking together, arms around the other's shoulders, one wearing a Palestinian headress, the other a yarmulke or kippah. That is the way things should be. On today's news, Israeli authorities were saying that the rockets etc from Gaza are more sophisticated than previously thought. They are fired by remote control. Whether this is just another way Israel uses to justify their bombing attacks, I don't know. Afterall, if this is the case, when they bomb rocket sites nobody gets killed.
Alternet — It seems that MSM is more involved in entertainment and "news making" than news gathering and reporting. They want to sell newspapers or viewership so they dress up events to be salacious, even if it means taking substantial liberties with those pesky things called facts. In Canada, news under the law must be factual and honest. I like our system much better.
Cartoon — The French ARE still revolting thanks to M Hollande, but it looks a little different now. Now, if Americans and Canadians could just follow the French lead . . . !
I am told the cravings last a very long time.
Daily Kos: I really don't understand why Fox hasn't been investigated by the FCC for all their outrageous lies.
NY Times: I know Israel is our ally, but I am really bothered about their current actions. I have seen too many children wounded from their bombing. It appears indiscriminate to me, although I admit I am no expert in this area.
Alternet: I clicked through, almost wish I hadn't. Esquire is a "men's" magazine, will always be. They have had sexist articles in almost every issue. Not surprised by this one. I cannot believe that anyone could compare the border crisis to what happened at the Superdome. Brownie is still doing a heck of a job, apparently. The uranium is not important now because Bush/Cheney have all ready had their war, Bush to taunt his father, and Cheney to make billions for Halliburton.
Cartoon: Apt!
Thanks all. Overslept!
