A recent study found that Canadians are more confident now than ever before. Apparently we are very cool (and I'm not referring to our fine winter temperatures!) and we are sexy. Hmmmm . . .
One fault we have is the lack of knowledge about our own history. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable of Canadian history, but I can see where this might come from. In school, we learned about the explorers that discovered the New World; we learned a lot of American history year after year after year; and we spent time studying English history, the 3 big revolutions (English, French and Russian) and Sino-Soviet relations in addition to WWI & WWII. I had Canadian history in grade 13 and one other year, that's it! However I made it my goal to learn more Canadian history.
From 1867 when Canada was formalised, we were governed by the British North America Act (our constitution). That remained in place with amendments until 1982 when the constitution was repatriated from the Crown as the Canada Act by PM Pierre Trudeau.
We are a social democratic bilingual nation of 10 provinces and 3 territories stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans, and from the Arctic Ocean in the high north to the 49th parallel which marks the border with the US.
Our big short term goal is to put Harper and his harlots in the unemployment line in May 2015! We started 30 June 2014 by defeating one of his harlots in a by-election in Toronto. Unfortunately, we couldn't defeat his 2 Alberta harlots during the by-elections.
Of course I'm still partial to last year's link I posted (recalled from WAY back when I had hearing) WRT your GORGEOUS National Anthem. (And given my current hearing deficit, I have NO idea what "In Canada" sounds like) – but I hope you enjoy it.
LMK what you think of it. I trust your observations.
I love it, eh! Thanks Nameless. Actually I never knew this existed but it so reminded me of much of my life growing up in Ontario . . . the call of the loon, the lake, camping with no tent etc (just a sleeping bag, ground sheet and food basics — we fished for dinner etc) and of course the quintessential "eh!". The crooning astronaut . . . Chris Hadfield . . . so Canadian eh!
Glad you enjoyed it. (And I can still remember hearing the loons back when I had hearing and would visit Wisconsisn friends w/ a lake cabin "Up North". It was just like an "On Golden Pond" moment.)
I had the pleasure of celebrating with the Cnadians one year up at Crystal Beach, Ontario. It's very near Niagara falls. We drank a lot of Canadian beer back then in the 1970s.
I have been told by some beer drinkers that Canadian beer has a stronger, full bodied taste than American beer. My stepfather used to refer to American beer as dirty dish water and something else much less polite. I can't personally testify from experience as I don't drink beer.
Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends, especially Lynn. I have been in Canada twice, both times to Windsor and I am told that is not really visiting Canada. Never the less, the Canadians I have known have been sharp and aware of what is happening in the world, more than I can say for a lot of my friends here.
Sasquatch?! Sasquatches are really big and hairy. I wonder if they shed and clog up a vacuum, eh? Anyway, you have more hair than I do! So who is the sasquatch? My shorthaired cats have longer hair than I do!
Bonne Fête du Canada! Happy Canada Day!
Canada is 147 years young today.

You've probably already not only enjoyed it – but got it bookmarked.

Happy anniversary to all Canadians!
Is Canadian beer less adulterated than US beer?
