Rush’s Ratings LimBARF!

Over the years it has boggled my mind that Republicans give so much power to Rush Limbarf, the de facto head of the Republican Party.  Every time one disagrees with him, you can be sure that politician will crawl in homage to kiss the ground at his feet.  It thoroughly pleases me that his ratings are getting almost as low as he is.

0504LimbarfIt’s another bowl of crow for Rush Limbaugh to eat, and his bowls runneth over these days. Media Matters has just reported more negative ratings that began after Limbaugh made his move in January, to the new southern California station KEIB:

Three months later, Limbaugh’s KEIB is a ratings disaster, coming in 37th place in the second largest radio market in America with a .5 rating share in March, the most recent month available, according to Nielsen ratings. (A ratings share represents the percent of those listening to radio in the market who are dialed into a particular station.)

How small is KEIB’s audience? So small that eleven non-English radio stations have larger audiences in Los Angeles. And so small that KEIB actually trails four college-run, non-commercial stations in the market. This, for a man who makes $40 million a year to attract big radio audiences? As for KFI, the station Limbaugh left and which switched to an all-local news and talk format, its ratings remain healthy in the talker’s absence. A top ten station, KFI boasts an audience six times larger than KEIB’s.

And on the East Coast, where Limbaugh was King, he is now ranked 22nd, trailing four non-English stations and one classical station.

Limbaugh’s real trouble began in February 2012, when he spent three days spewing lies, hate, and misogyny at then unknown law student, Sandra Fluke. He and ‘his GOP boys’ didn’t like having the women folk advocating for birth control, much less in Congress, of all places. He called Fluke a ‘slut’ and ‘prostitute’ and the social media crowd went wild. Think Progress made a mighty good compilation video of the Sandra Fluke rant:…

I’m writing for tomorrow and am pleased to announce that the heat wave is over, and I am enjoying the cooler temps.  I’m waiting for my groceries to arrive from Safeway and expect them within the next hour.  I could not order from Store to Door this week, because my Urologist appointment conflicted with their delivery time.  Day 13.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:05 (average 4:49).  To di it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Concord Monitor: The latest skirmish over the nation’s first smart gun, marked this week by death threats against a Maryland gun dealer who wanted to sell the weapon, has raised doubts about its future and prompted some gun control advocates to back away from legislative efforts to mandate the technology.

Engage Armament, a Rockville, Md., gun shop, endured an outpouring of vitriol from gun-rights activists who fear the technology will be used to curtail their Second Amendment rights by limiting what kinds of guns they can buy in the future.

The protests echoed those against the Oak Tree Gun Club, a Los Angeles-area store that offered to sell the smart gun and – like Engage Armament – quickly dropped the idea after opposition mounted. Electronic chips in the Armatix iP1 can communicate with a watch that can be bought separately. Then the gun cannot be fired without the watch.

Chris Hayes also covered this:

I would never have imagined a day in which Republican gun nuts would threaten the life of a gun dealer for wanting to sell a gun! What hypocrites! The gun industry fears that this technology could eventually become a legal requirement for new gun sales. That would cost them their cherished profits in the criminal market and the mentally-deranged market.

From Alternet: The United Nations human rights office on Friday condemned the bungled and chaotic execution of an Oklahoma death-row inmate, which left him thrashing on the gurney during a chaotic process that lasted nearly two hours.

A spokesman for the UN high commissioner for human rights in Geneva said that the process to which Clayton Lockett was subjected on Tuesday may have amounted to "cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment"  under international human rights law, and may have violated the US constitution.

Barack Obama admitted on Friday that the manner of Lockett’s execution was "deeply troubling" and said he had asked the US attorney general, Eric Holder, to provide a review of the issues raised by it. "I do think as a society we have to ask ourselves some difficult questions," he said.

I’m disappointed that, in spite of Obama’s encouraging language, he has called for an investigation into the process only, not the barbarity of the death penalty itself. An the other hand, Republicans want to leave the methods in place and sell popcorn.

From Crooks and Liars: Elizabeth Warren’s new book is proving to be extremely popular, providing an excellent opportunity for Democrats to change the narrative going into the 2014 election.

Warren has made it clear that she will not run for President in 2016. I would not want her to be on the ticket at all, in that case, because, assuming the best we can hope for, we will need her fully in Hillary’s face for the entire Clinton administration.

Why Sheeple Stay Stupid

Posted by at 12:42 am  Politics

While President Barack Obama was dealing with important matters of State, John “Agent Orange” Boehner (R-OH) was busy scheming the next waste of Congress’ time and Taxpayers’ money reinvestigating a phony Republican scandal that has already been thoroughly debunked.  Meanwhile the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, helped make sure that sheeple stay stupid, by pulling coverage from the President to plug the deceptive Republican meme.

FoxSheepFox News stopped airing President Barack Obama’s joint press conference Friday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel because, the network said, reporters weren’t asking him about Benghazi.

The topic has animated the conservative news network, and especially so Friday because Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) had just announced the House will vote to establish a select committee to investigate the Obama administration’s response to the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate that left four Americans dead.

When cutting away from the news conference, Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner was quite blunt about the fact that Benghazi was all Fox wanted to discuss at that moment… [emphasis added]

Here’s the video:

Being denied serious news in favor of propaganda is why sheeple stay stupid.

Ask sheeple a serious question.  They will consult the Koch Suckers Handbook and say, “BA-A-A-A-A!”  Then they will check the Koch Suckers Handbook again and parrot that nobody told them what to say, that “BA-A-A-A-A!” is their own idea.  No wonder Faux Noise viewers are less informed than those who watch no news at all.

Poll Results–5/3/2014

Here are the results of our Do the Super-rich Pay Enough Poll.  Politics Plus Polls are not scientific, because those who respond are not balanced according to demographic categories.   Therefore, we do not accurately reflect the makeup of the US population.  Nevertheless, our polls are often both accurate and indicative of the nation’s view.

why ask such an obvious question? Is this some sort of trick?

Posted by Mitch D.  April 23, 2014 at 2:32 am.

Asking that question in the context of this site, is like asking a starving person whether or not he/she would like a sandwich!

But, yet, clearly too little!

They pay too little…

If they pay any taxes they pay too little. When one has grown wealthy and reaped the so called benefits of this country; they owe a return to the country.

clip_image002

GW Bush cut their taxes and we all learned the hard lesson that cutting taxes can destroy and not build an economy.

MissTexasKitty says it well. Reagan’s ‘trickle-down economics’ has only trickled up, apparently. The ‘job makers’ only look out for themselves. It’s a shame that this country’s leaders have become so greedy.

Is this is what Americans call "a no-brainer"?

If a CEO can manage to pay less taxes than his secretary, only the first choice comes close. IThe poll should have had "Only the rich should pay taxes" to counterbalance the last one.

Doh!

Yes, I agree with Fred and others… this poll has pretty obvious results considering the POV of PP. I must say I was surprised anyone voted outside the expected.

Posted by Lynn Squance  April 15, 2014 at 9:27 am.

For me it is self evident: they don’t pay enough. It is all out of proportio bibically! Just think of Jesus challenging the rich man who put 2 silver coins in the box, when he derided the widow who only put in 2 pennies. As Jesus said, she put all that she had so she gave much more.

These rich evangelical right wing pseudo Christians know nothing of Jesus’ teachings. From what I can see, much of the 1% are like the rich man.

I voted with the majority, of course, and not one of the three Republican choices.

Several of you have asked why I put up this poll.  Almost all of my polls have a purpose.  Many are intended to inspire thought, but not this time.  Many are intended to to entertain, but not this time.  My intent here was to make the point of how completely obvious it is that there is only one correct answer to this question.  Hopefully that should inspire outrage at all the TEAbuggery that we get from Republicans, when they make excuses to continue a welfare state for billionaires, and commitment to remove them from office.

The new poll is up.  Don’t forget to vote, but if you do, don’t forget to vote in November.

Writing for tomorrow, I’m feeling somewhat drained, because the heat has interfered with my sleep.  Today is forecast in the high 70°s, and tomorrow will be cooler.  After taking a rest day today, I have a lot of housework to catch up this weekend.  Day 12.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:27 (average 4:39).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Jeb Bush’s increasingly serious and public examination of a run for president has shaken the ranks of establishment Republican donors and fund-raisers who had planned to back Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey in 2016, forcing many of them to rethink their allegiance to the embattled governor.

In private conversations that are now seeping into public view, some of them are signaling to Mr. Christie’s camp that, should Mr. Bush enter the race, their first loyalty would be to him, not to Mr. Christie, according to interviews with more than two dozen of them.

A Jeb Bush candidacy is my greatest worry for 2016, because “Strike Three” has the ability to mask is fascism and appear normal.  You’d never know that he was the architect of Stand Your Ground laws.

From The New Yorker: A broad-based coalition of millionaires converged on Washington today to defeat a bill that would have increased the minimum wage for American workers to $10.10 an hour.

Leaving behind their mansions and yachts, the millionaires were motivated by what they saw as an existential threat to the country, Mitch McConnell, a spokesman for the millionaires, said.

“This was an extremely diverse coalition,” McConnell said, noting that everyone from the rich to the very rich to the super-rich united to vote down the bill.

OK, Andy, I give up. Where’s the satire?

From Daily Kos: You can’t fool George Will. Scientists are just progressives who are looking to consolidate power in Washington.

“The whole point of global warming is it’s a rationalization for progressives to do what progressives want to do, which is concentrate more and more power in Washington, more and more Washington power in the executive branch, more and more executive branch power in independent czars and agencies, to micromanage the lives of the American people. Our shower heads, our toilets, our bathtubs, our garden hoses — everything becomes involved in the exigencies of rescuing the planet.”

Sounds like an open and shut case to me. Scientists from all around the world are in a global conspiracy to seize power in the United States. Perfectly logical.

What? You want proof? George Will has proof!

Gwynne was the science editor of Newsweek 39 years ago when he pulled together some interviews from scientists and wrote a nine-paragraph story about how the planet was getting cooler.

Ever since, Gwynne’s "global cooling" story – and a similar Time Magazine piece – have been brandished gleefully by those who say it shows global warming is not happening, or at least that scientists – and often journalists – don’t know what they are talking about.

Fox News loves to cite it. So does Rush Limbaugh. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., has quoted the story on the Senate floor.

That one article in 1975 was so brilliant, that it has managed to disprove over 33,000 scientifically researched papers written since.

Republican pollution pawns always have an excuse and a reason to believe that the obvious isn’t happening. The excuses are many. The reason is that profit trumps people in a Republican Reich.

In April, Politics Plus improved slight in every category except KBytes and Hits, and significantly in Pages.  It was also a shorter month.  I particularly liked the big increase in Pages.  It means more people stayed to look at more articles.  Here is our latest summary:

usage4-2014

vv4-2014

In the monthly totals, a Site is any website from which someone accessed our server, a Hit is every access attempt to our server, and a File is every access attempt to our server that returned data.  The difference between Hits and Files is from access attempts that were sent in error or damaged in transit and failed attempts by hackers, spammers, phishers, and Republicans to access the back end and take control of the site.  Any questions?

Here is our latest Clustrmap:

Map4-2014

This is the new map that is starting to look a little less naked.  It shows only the visits from March 2 to April 21.

Our Technorati rating is 113, unchanged from last month, but still low on the B list.  These ratings yo-yo and do not depend on our traffic or our overall links, but only links on sites registered with and recognized by Technorati.  Because we have new links on two A-list sites, it should have increased.  It seems they have lost our page there and have not updated our activity in months.  I updated both my and the blog’s profiles in the hopes that it prompts them to remember we exist.  If only Care2 would register their front page of C2NN news with Technorati, we’d be A list again every month, unless Technorati remains muddled.

As of Midnight, May 1, we have 4,929 articles and 52,401 comments.

The change I made last month of individually commenting only when I have something significant to add seems to bed translating into more sleep, and more energy for more research into more content.

The 2014 elections are only five months away.  Republicans want to transform our nation into a totalitarian plutocracy.  They want a permanent, one-party regime in which elections exist for show only.  No lie, no trick and no crime are to heinous for them to embrace.  We must turn out the vote to stop them.

Our improved performance again last month was because of you.  Thank you for everything you do, here and elsewhere.

I’m writing for tomorrow.  It’s 82° at my desk.  That’s too hot, but it’s 20° less that what it would have been at the old place.  I’ll be ordering my AC on Monday.  That will guarantee cold weather until July.  I spent the entire morning gathering the data for today’s Monthly Report, so the Poll Results will be delayed until Saturday.  Day 11.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:02 (average 4:46).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: After being banned by the N.B.A. Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling told reporters that he would miss being around people he hates.

“Sure, I’m saddened by this,” Sterling said. “Sitting in the stands night after night, a boiling cauldron of hatred bubbling inside me—it doesn’t get better than that. Those were good times.”

“Knowing that I’ll never be able to sit in that arena again and look down on the people I despise—that hurts the most,” he said.

Andy describes just how unhappy that typically racist Republican will be, IF the ban sticks.

From Upworthy: When it comes down to it, these kids get it — love is love, and family is family. And the way they talk about their families is absolutely adorable. Prepare to be charmed and delighted.

Isn’t this wonderfully different from the hatred Republicans teach their children to spew.

From Daily Kos: Buh bye Republican dreams of voter suppression by onerous Voter ID requirements.

The shiny new law has been on hold and now its dead.  .pdf is here.

In Tuesday’s decision, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman in Milwaukee determined the law requiring voters to show one of a narrow set of photo IDs at the polls violated the federal Voting Rights Act and established an unconstitutional burden on the right to vote. He issued an injunction barring the law from being enforced.

State Attorney General (Republican) J.B. Van Hollen, who had defended the law, immediately pledged to take the case to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.

This is a big win for the people of Fitzwalkerstan and a big loss for Fartfuhrer Walker and Republican election theft.

I’m writing for tomorrow, before leaving for my Urologist appointment.  Because the temperature forecast for today is an unexpected 88°, I know I’ll be in no shape to do anything when I get back.  Day 10.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:57 (average 5:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: Am I crazy in thinking this is so obviously wrong? I really struggle to think how a person at any stage of this process is OK with sending a child to prison with adults.

This isn’t just crazy. It’s InsaniTEA.

From The New Yorker: The Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling offered a “total and remorseful” apology for his racist comments today, telling reporters, “Once I saw that Donald Trump was defending me, I knew I had done something horribly wrong.”

Sterling acknowledged that he had turned a blind eye to a mountain of criticism from basketball luminaries and national leaders, but said that seeing Trump defend him on Fox News on Monday had left him “shaken.”

Dang, Andy!!! Talk about a bad hair day!!

From Daily Kos: Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry, a group of Native parents and their allies from across the country were alerted to Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin‘s daughter, Christina Fallin’s latest gaff when her band Pink Pony announced via Facebook "I heard Pink Piny [sic] was wearing full regalia tonight." Protestors led by Choctaw musician Samantha Crain staged a protest at the Norman Music Festival in Oklahoma and Native American’s reaction via social media was outraged as Fallin wore a Native American-style fringed shawl with the word "Sheep" on the back and performed a fake war dance while her boyfriend Steven Battles ridiculed the protesters and flipped them off from the stage.

There it is! Republican family values are learned in Republican families.
