There is no depth of depravity to which Republicans refuse to stoop to get their way, and the Koch Brothers, fathers of InsaniTEA, lead the pack in that area. Now they are bribing college students, some of whom may even be underage, with booze to oppose ObamaCare by refusing to sign up.
Billionaire Koch brothers funded groups Americans for Prosperity and Generation Opportunity are supplying University of New Hampshire students with free alcohol tonight to encourage them to oppose Obamacare and not sign up for health coverage.
The “Thirsty for Freedom” event will be held at the Dover Brickhouse just off campus. It provides students with two free drink tickets to hear about “big governments war on youth” and is hosted by Koch-funded AFP, Koch-funded Generation Opportunity, Young Americans for Liberty, and the College Republicans…

Hat-Tip to Jo (a regular, both here and at Care2) for telling me about this event.
This is not new for Republicans. For example, in election year 2004, I left work downtown and saw a group of transients gathered around two Republicans, wearing Bush/Cheney buttons. They had apparently previously registered the transients. The Republicans found each transients names in a stack of prefilled ballots, got their signature, and handed it to them. Each transient then took their ballot to a van parked at the curb and traded it for a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine. I yelled at them, and pulled out my cell phone, intending to take a picture. Before I could, the Republicans jumped into the van and drove away. Then I had to run, confronted with some very angry transients. One more thing, the Republicans were both wearing "Jesus Saves" buttons too. I guess Republican Supply-side Jesus (the polar opposite of the real Jesus) saves by shopping at the beer and wine wholesaler.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Good grief TC – that sounds like something out of the Depression era – going to transients and trading their vote for booze – I am HORRIFIED!! You and Joanne are right – there truly is nothing they will not do to win – no matter how wrong….
If college students refuse Obamacare by not signing up they really need their heads examining!
While this newest angle of the Koch brothers stinks to high heaven, I think most of their takers are laughing all the way to the beer tent. The ones who are taking the "drink tickets" are probably for the most part under the age of 26 and would not be signing up for health care anyway. They are covered by their parents policies. Veterans in school have the VA. A large portion of the adult students might already have COBRA policies.I really think the joke is on the Kochs. Don't forget the low-income students covered under Medicaid and the disabled who have MediCare.
What do you think? Who's scammin' whom?
Patty, you are so right. It has been a long time since my college days, but I'm thinking those students are laughing all the way home.
Me? Damn right I'd take the free booze.
Given that ~ 95% of college students are covered either by their parents' policies or a school policy, it's a pretty STUPID idea. Then again, it is the Kochs.
I think maybe the Koch's need to go back to school..ALL the "kids" at college can stay on their Parents' healthcare plan until age 26! I would take the booze and laugh at the old farts!
See: Can children stay on a parent’s plan until age 26? If a plan covers children, they can be added to or kept on a parent's health insurance policy until they turn 26 years old.
Children can join or remain on a parent's plan even if they are:
•married
•not living with their parents
•attending school
•not financially dependent on their parents
•eligible to enroll in their employer’s plan
These rules apply to both job-based plans and individual plans you buy yourself, inside or outside the Marketplace.
"Unbelievable"…
Stupid is as stupid does!
I hope that the Kochs outsmart themselves and their scheme backfires in their faces.
There is nothing the Kochs won't stoop to do, but this one is …..so stupid I cannot think of a good adjective.
Thanks all. Well said. I'm pooped.
Funny that N.H. is a conservative State (Police State)… Any and all will be arrested for Drinking and Driving after this event…
