I’m writing for tomorrow, and attempting to get back to normal blogging.  I’m feeling well enough, as long as I don’t push to hard.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:17 (average 4:56).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Three weeks ago, Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma said that if America had socialized medicine he would probably be dead instead of recovering from heart surgery:

The 79-year-old suggested that if he had been in a part of the world with “socialized medicine like Obama is trying to impose upon America,” the operation never would have happened. […] “And so the message there is, you know I say this to all of your American listeners, let’s hold onto what we’ve got here. You are talking to someone right now who probably wouldn’t be here if we had socialized medicine in America.”

And now, this weekend, we learned that Medicare—which Inhofe’s personal hero Ronald Reagan once described as "socialized medicine"—provides insurance coverage for Inhofe’s medical bills

Were it not for that socialized medicine, Inhofe would probably still be alive, but only because, as a member of the 1%, he could have opted "pay" to avoid the RepubliCare Death Benefit.

From The New Yorker: Moments after President Obama said he would allow insurers to continue health plans that were to be cancelled under the Affordable Care Act, leading Republicans blasted the President for agreeing with an idea that they had supported.

“It’s true that we’ve been strongly in favor of Americans being allowed to keep their existing plans,” said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). “But now that the President is for it, we’re convinced that it’s a horrible idea.”

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) went further in ripping the President, calling Mr. Obama’s tactic of adopting ideas proposed by him and fellow Republicans “beneath contempt.”…

Once again, Andy’s satire has the hypocrisy of Republican sedition pegged.

From Alternet: Chris Christie (R-N.J.) has been billed as a new kind of Republican. Is it a fair characterization? Yes and no.

Yes, this likely presidential candidate has done a few things other GOP politicians don’t usually do. Yes, he has won re-election in a traditionally Democratic state. And yes, for a few weeks he was actually cordial to President Obama. Even considering the context — he only won against anunderfunded opponent and he was only nice to the president when asking for hurricane relief funds — these are, indeed, rare accomplishments for a Republican.

That said, these atypical parts of Christie’s record have little to do with the concrete policies that he has touted and that he would probably champion if he were elected president. On that score, Christie isn’t new at all. He is the opposite — a Bush/Cheney-esque neoconservative promoting the old politics of division and ignorance.

Click through for an excellent article with the details on how Christie is nothing more than a Republican in sheeples’ clothing. He’s BA-A-A-A-AD!!

Republicans are still looking for revenge against Democrats for that, even though it was the Republican Party that approved Sherman’s tactics, not the Democrats.

  1. 3:30 I didn't get hooked on this one.

  2. Sherman needs to do it again…..

Inhofe has a heart???? News to me.  Yeah, Medicare….tyhat other socialized medicine they hate….but use regularly. Fascist Bastard.

New jersey's Mob Boss is exactly what you said, Cat Man, nothing new to see here…move along. He is a Fascist and he subscribes to all that is horribly bad and evil about the Rethuglinazi, Fundy-Fascist Bagger agenda.  My Dawg…..could you imagine what would happen if he were (I can't wrap ma head around this so bare with me) president….and he had a meeting with say…PUTIN —and he pulled his bullying routine with THAT man…….Jeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz. Putin would get that cryptic little smile he reserves for those who irritate him or he finds utterly stupid. Yeah, go ahead dumbass, irritate the one man in the world who could tie you and the entire western world into tiny little insignificant knots…..just for his ….amusement. Riiiiiiiiight.

  3. So glad to see you posting again, Tom – we really missed you!

I think I stopped listening to anything any Republican had to say several moons ago – if it's not a blatant lie, it's a statement so stupid my cat wouldn't say it.  Inhofe just proves my point.

  4. Has Senator Inhofe never bothered to buy insurance or was he the only person in Congress to be excluded from the super plan granted to all members of Congress or was he just dissembling for attention? Ummmm….which might it be?

The only thing new about this insurance is that those who are not wealthy will have the same option for heart surgery as did Senator and Prevaricator Inhofe or does he wish to have only the wealthy be protected from illness?

Love Andy Borowitz, he always hits home.

  5. Inhofe reminds us over here of the Repuglicon imbeciles who say that Prof Stephen Hawking would be dead if he had had to rely on 'socialist medicine' – the Rethuglicons being sadly too stupid to realise that a) Hawking is British despite the American accent of his machinery and b) it was the NHS that saved him and has continued to save him over the decades!  It doesn't surprise me but does revolt me that Inhofe took from the system for his open heart surgery – I'm just surprised they could find one to operate on.

I love Andy Borowitz – always brilliant.

Gov'r Christie doesn't seem to me as a new kind of GOP member – just a particularly crafty one.

Please take care of your health TC!

  6. 4:52.  Yup, that's copper all right.  (Average is up to 5:05 BTW)

New Yorker – Yup, that's Republicans all right.

    Christie – Yup, that's him.

Cartoon:  Well, yup, but if we want to keep maintaining how much the Republicans (and the Democrats for that matter) have changed since the GOP was the party of Lincoln, I think we need to admit it about this as well.

And, yes, please take continuing care of yourself.  I know I and others sound like broken records.  That happens when the matter is so important.

Just a B actor reading from the Corporate Script… 👿

  8. I am so happy you are feeling better, TC.  Keep taking care of yourself and don't overdo.

Inhofe is just confirming his ingnorance.  It is only socialized if it is benefiting the poor.

Andy is so right.  They agree with something until the Dems and Prez agree with it, then they don't like it.

Christie is a devout Republican, and an opportunits.

Cartoon:  This may be part of the reason the South has turned Republican.  Sherman is being blamed on the Democrats.

  9. Thoughts and prayers for Lynn, whatever her emergency may be.
