The Republican Party has a plan for you’re health care. I call it RepubliCare. It has a built in death benefit for no extra charge, and here’s how it works. Either you pay, or you die. To establish RepubliCare, they have to take away your ObamaCare. If they can, the next step is to tale away Medicare and Medicaid too, as proclaimed by former Senator, now Fuhrer of the Heritage Foundation, Jim DeMint.
Heritage Foundation president and former Senator Jim DeMint suggested to a town hall audience in Wilmington, Delaware Thursday that health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid are “un-American” and built on the principles of “socialism and collectivism.”
“I cannot think of anything that’s more un-American than national government-run health care,” DeMint said. “Those who believe in those principles of socialism and collectivism we’ve seen over the centuries, they see as their holy grail taking control of the health care system.”… [emphasis added]

Here’s a link to the video of DeMint’s speech, if you have a generous supply og barf bags handy. Fore some reason I feel too charitable today to subject you to 56 minutes of DeMint.
Of course, this is nothing new. Republicans have been opposed to Medicare since before it passed.

I remember seeing recently reports of American healthcare being much worse than many European countries and costing many times more – but I can't find it just now, though I can find this

The Repuglicons say that anything that doesn't grossly and greedily profit the 1% and their close cousins the 5% are 'unAmerican' – in the hope that they can sway people into not thinking about things. Thank the Lord for Obamacare!
Pat, anyone who has mase a serious study of the subject, as I have, knows that, except fore what the very rich get, European health care syands head, shoulders, and butthole above ours.
“I cannot think of anything that’s more un-American than national government-run health care,” DeMint said.
I beg to differ. I cannot think of anything that's more un-American than Jim DeMint.
DeMint the latest intellectual Vacuum from the South. He must be right in there with the TP Repugs who when asked what should happen to one who is sick and has no health care. responded Let him DIE!.
Oh THE HUMANITY. In response to another question Yes Western European health care is vastly superior to anything in the USA. I an a health care professional who trained and worked in the UK. (and came to the USA. ,and was shocked and horrified with the lack of care and concern ( unless one had $,s!)
Thank you Avril. You are certainly in a position to know.
Rand Paul;and others give him stiff competition.
The real irony is that DeMint's Heritage Foundation was the right-wing organization who originally proposed the now GOP-loathed Individual Mandate concept way back in 1989.
Then again, that "Black Is White, Up Is Down" kind of 1984 "Newspeak" is pretty typical for Rethuglicans.
And my question to demented DeMint (who wants to dismantle Medicare, Medicaid and our military's TriCare):
When did it become "UN-American" to want to lend a hand to a fellow American?
I think that happens ONLY in Rethuglican Bizzaro World. (Which is just ANOTHER good reason to vote the maternal-incestuous-copulators out of office!).
I could not agree more, Nameless!
I remember some time ago, you posted a video of Alan Grayson talking about Republicare back in 2009 — Republicanus/Teabagger healthcare plan was a blank piece of paper. In his House speech, he summarised Republicare as:
1 Don't get sick.
2 If you do get sick, die quickly.
Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-usmvYOPfco
I will never understand the American negative obsession with socialism or collectivism as DeMint also calls it. I know I am preaching to the choir, but it is obvious from this one thing that the Republicanus/Teabaggers are not true Christians. True Christianity calls for compassion, mercy and "being thy neighbour's keeper" when needed, things that these right wing nut evangelical pseudo Christians do not accept nor understand.
The founding fathers and early colonists understood the need to stick together, to help each other. But that has been lost on the right. There is a price for freedom, and that price is in collectively helping each other. In Switzerland, a petition has been circulated and is going to the government to call a referendum on a minimum annual income for all citizens. I did not see any specific details, but this strikes me as somethingthing needed, especially at this time given that the global economic upheaval was not the fault of the average world citizen.
While Obamacare is not universal healthcare and is far from perfect, it is most definitely a step in the correct direction. Had Mr Obama tried to go for universal healthcare back in 2009-10, the ACA would never have been passed. Americans would be stuck with the old and tired healthcare system, the one that puts people in bankrutcy and graves!
Alan was the inspiration for my RepubliCare Death Benefit theme.
That is exactly what I have said over and over. While I want single-payer, if Obama had held out for it, all we would have today is RepubliCare.
I know you've said it before many times. Where do you think I got the idea? See, I do listen to you, my teacher! I also did some of my own checking after hearing it from you!
The only explanation I can come up with is that the Republicans have better PR people than the Democrats. How else can you explain the utter stupidity of people who believe that the Affordable Care Act is socialism and still call themselves Christians. And it is not just in the South. I get rather tired of this ever constant belaboring of the south. I do believe that Wisconsin is in the North, Arizona is in the West, and Missouri is heaven knows where. Do Northerners inherently still believe they are superior to all Southerners?
In the 1970s, Democrats went on the defensive, and have been there ever since. The reason I write so forcewfully id to inspire some offense!
We need generous supply of barf bags handy to watch this.
An overly generous supply!!
