CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics) has completed an extensive study to determine who are America’s eighteen worst governors. The collection they found should boggle the mind that many are in office instead of a prison cell. I’m sure you already guessed that seventeen out of the eighteen are Republicans, and the lone Democrat lives in a state, where nobody is allowed to run for office, without first showing proof of corruption. There is also a quiz to see if you have what it takes to be a Republican governor.
CREW’s second report on the nation’s worst governors includes 18 — six of whom are the worst of the lot, six others whose conduct raises serious questions about their leadership, and six others who engaged in some action suspect enough to suggest their decisions merit close scrutiny.

Some governors on the list essentially turned their authority and regulatory agendas over to special interests. Others abused their office in return for gifts and campaign contributions. Many appointed donors to key positions and gutted transparency measures. All failed to live up to the public trust.
Until publishing its first report on the nation’s worst governors in 2010, CREW primarily focused on the ethics of federal government officials. CREW chose to look at governors because their actions have a major impact on public welfare, but state ethics issues often escape attention.
Now, with Washington mired in partisan gridlock, much of the legislative action takes place at the state level. As a result, it is critical that governors’ conduct be beyond reproach… [emphasis added]

Click Through for detailed analysis on each governor. Then take their quiz. I scored 0 from a Republican perspective. How did you do?
Correction (8/10): There were two Democrats not one. The Governor of KY is such a Koch-bought DINO that I forgot he isn't a Republican… officially, that is. Apologies.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
CREW are amazing – and that list is really depressing but necessary reading. A copy should be delivered to every citizen in the land – and lots of other countries too! Every country should have a CREW – and their findings should be on the national and international news. Thanks TC! (I was horrified to see one on the list was a Democrat.).
Very well said, Pat. Indeed, all citicens should be informed.
I wasn't the least bit surprised at Andy Cuomo (D) NY being included with the clowns. He definitely is one of them! Can't stand him. He has the gall to call himself a Democrat.
I scored a big fat 0! I would make a perfect RepublicanT governor.
Patty, they had to cancel New Your's parade of the honest politicians. She died. π
Expected my governor to be on the list and he sure is….the sad thing is all this corruption and deceit becomes more and more rampant – who cares after all? What are we gonna do about it anyway? Arggggh
VOTE!
I scored ten as a Republican. So sorry to see my gov on the list, but I all ready knew about the reports they listed. Joe Craft, CEO of Alliance coal even has had his name put on buildings at the Universty of Ky due to his large donations to the school. Coal is KING in Kentucky, and the industry intends to remain so, until there is not a mountain left to tear down, nor a stream to pollute.
That's so sad Edie.
Sorry, re read my post. I am NOT a Republican, just answered the questions as if I were.
I answereds them as me to get a 0.
I`m ready to move into the Governor`s mansion according to the quiz! I wonder if they realise that I`m not an American?!
If you saw all the ethics, conflict of interest, and staff dealing regulations that I had to police at work, you`d understand why I could go to the Governor`s mansion. The price for breaking such regulations is just too high. Obviously, these mostly Republicanus/Teabaggers don`t think so. I would love to see at least the first 6 humbled by some prison time for their outrageous behaviour. And of course, their coöptors should receive punishment of some fashion depending on the situation.
No bad deed should should go unrewarded with prison time or heavy fines!
No wonder voter turnout is failing! People have become so inured to the political shady tricks that they think they can`t make a difference.
I did the quiz a second time but with Republicanus/Teabagger respones. It told me the same thing so let me clarify — Republicanus/Teabaggers would hate me in the Governor`s mansion! . . . even if I were qualified as an American citizen.
I agree.
Canadian ewouldn't matter to Republicans as long as you're coorruptable.
I fear I would be a miserable failure as a Republican governor. My only quibble with the report would be Michigan's Rick Snyder at the bottom of the list. I'd put him right up there with Walker and Scott
I agree, John
