Yesterday I had to walk another 1 1/2 miles, so Iβm quite tired, but not so much that I cannot blog. Iβm current with replies, however briefly. Tomorrow appears routine.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Todayβs took me 3:41 (average 5:09). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From USA Today: States with more gun laws have fewer gun-related deaths, according to a new study released Wednesday by Boston Children’s Hospital.
This is NOT rocket science!
From CNN: Overriding a veto by Arkansas’ Democratic governor, the state’s Republican-controlled House and Senate approved a bill to ban abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, the most restrictive such law in the country.
Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat, vetoed the bill Monday, saying it "blatantly contradicts the United States Constitution, as interpreted by the Supreme Court."
And the Republican War on Women goose-steps on.
From The Oregonian:
In case you were wondering how much U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley disdains the automatic "sequestration"-driven cuts to education, here is a rundown of what he called them Wednesday:
- "Completely unacceptable"
- "Very draconian"
- "Unwise"
- "Dumb and dumber"
During a conference call with reporters, Merkley showcased not only his views but those of Oregon educators who agree with him.
Jamie Zartler, a teacher at Grant High in Portland, put it this way: "Congress is mugging our kids."
Merkley was swift to lay out the negative numbers facing Oregon schools — a $10 million hit to funds for high poverty schools, a $6.4 million cut for special education and a $3.5 million drop in money for Head Start.
Dumber kids for America! It’s the Republican way!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I so agree this is not complicated…
Dumber kids for America! It’s the Republican way!
That's what I saud. π
4:07 I couldn't make it through the church gate before you. Why do you keep putting gates in front of me?
5:03 I couldn't even get up to the gate let alone go through it. There was no guiding light on that gate for me.
3:46 I think I squeaked through the gate just as TC was closing it! I was chasing a church mouse!
Woooo Hoooo! It's a rare day when y'all are Cat Boxed!
USA Today ~ It must only be a big DUH for the RepublicnT party.
CNN ~ Kudos to Gov. Mike Beebe!
The Oregonian ~ Our local media has outlined the cuts to all of our schools and it is ridiculous!
Cartoon ~ That's what they're aiming for.
See today's cartoon.
Amen!
It is!
Bingo!
I just came across this video presentation about income inequality which I think is very good and totally understandable.

TC, I hope you weren't planning on using this. If you were, use it anyway as it needs to be out there to help people understand. Besides, you'l provide some excellent commentary to go with it.
What an excellent video. Kudos!
Thanks, Lynn. This should be required viewing in our Congress and Senate before every session.
Puzzle — 3:46 I think I squeaked through the gate just as TC was closing it! I was chasing a church mouse!
USA Today — You're right of course, it isn't rocket science. However, the gun lobby will carry on with their same old line because there was no cause and effect proven.
That would have put the timing in Clinton'e second term. Wasn't it a Republican Congress that nixed further funding on gun related deaths 15 years ago? Certainly would figure it to be thus.
CNN — So when did any Republican/Teabagger care about the constitution if it didn't support their idiotology (ideology)? No surprise here. Maybe if the related cases before SCOTUS come out in favour of abortion (ie Roe Vs Wade doesn't get overturned) then the Arkansas law will be unenforcable. Otherwise, someone is going to have to take Arkansas to court. What a bunch of dumb-asses!
The Oregonian — I love that expression — "Congress is mugging our kids." That's a hit of $19.9 million to education that will hit the poorest!
Cartoon — Interesting reading about John L Lewis in Wikipedia. He was a staunch union person, and a Republican. I think he wouldn't fit in with today's Republican/Teabaggers!
I bad! π
The research stopprd, because NRA bought legislators blocked the funding.
It was, but too many Dems are NRA bought too.
Never.
Wasn't that a beauty?!!?
I fully agree.
God bless Senator Jeff Merkley and all like him!
That's why I worked for his campaign .
