The Republican Ministry of Propaganda, aka Faux Noise, has a problem. Because they report so-called news from an exclusively Republican perspective, they usually find themselves positioned in exact opposition to the facts of the story. When unable to argue a valid position, they attack a person, as they did here.
After glossing over state Republicans’ role in exacerbating long lines at the ballot box, three Fox hosts mocked the hours-long wait and multiple trips a 102-year-old woman endured in order to cast her vote in 2012.
On Fox News Radio’s Kilmeade & Friends, host Brian Kilmeade and Fox’s Martha MacCallum and Bill Hemmer laughed off the difficulties 102-year-old Desiline Victor endured in order to vote in the 2012 election. Victor, who was invited to the State of the Union address and whom President Obama applauded for enduring a long wait to vote, had to make two trips to the polls and wait in line for over three hours before she was able to cast her ballot. Discussing Victor, MacCallum wondered, "What’s the big deal?" and said, "This is such a non-issue. Ridiculous." Hemmer added that at the State of the Union, "They held her up as a victim. What was she a victim of?"
But long lines at polling places are widely acknowledged as a major issue nationwide. In Victor’s home state of Florida alone, at least 201,000 eligible voters reportedly did not cast ballots because they were discouraged by lengthy wait timesβ¦

Hereβs the audio:
In this case, the facts are that Florida Republicans did everything in their power to keep likely Democratic voters from voting, and many suffered severe hardship to exercise their right to vote. Victor was a very sympatric example of the suffering the Republican War on Voting caused. These Republican propagandists have no shame.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Such drivel! The Repuklicons have no shame because they are shame incarnate. I think they are all suffering from a case of small penis syndrome. They just keep painting themselves into an ugly little corner and someone may have to draw them a map if they ever hope to get out. I seriously doubt they have the mental capabilities to read said map, so they may have to mapquest it.
Apparently, that have no desire to get out of that corner.
Fox derided a lady of 102 years of age – who had the courage and determination to queue for over three hours to cast her vote – they should be hailing her an example to us all! (Sorry – another typo – I should perhaps have written Pox News – that sounds more appropriate!).
Amen Pat!
Really? The point of the "mockery" wasn't to insult an elderly woman (Who would most likely be dead under the original version Obamacare). Instead, it was to say that, just like you stated in your article, there were shittons of people who had to wait! I do applaud her for her determination, but how the fuck does that deem you a spot at the SOTU address? God, you guys are morons. I needed a good laugh this morning. Also, I'm pretty sure that polls taken/believed by the more right (read correct) minded people believed that Romney was in the lead. So what good would it do to block voters intentionally? Honestly, thanks for the laugh.
Esch — "Also, I'm pretty sure that polls taken/believed by the more right (read correct) minded people believed that Romney was in the lead. So what good would it do to block voters intentionally?"
Then why did Gov Rick Scott cut the early voting days almost in half, despite problems in the previous election?
Then why all the rule changes and voter ID issues in Florida and other red states?
And I guess that the "more right (read correct) minded people" were less than correct in believing that Romney was in the lead. Mr Obama won Florida, and it was because people like Desiline Victor stood for hours to do their duty.
At the SOTU, she was there representing all those who waited, and waited, and waited . . . not just herself. She was there showing the importance of the vote.
Don't waste your time, Lynn.
Remember, DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!
FRY ::
Why do trolls do it?
I believe that most trolls are sad people, living their lonely lives vicariously through those they see as strong and successful.
Disrupting a stable newsgroup gives the illusion of power, just as for a few, stalking a strong person allows them to think they are strong, too.
For trolls, any response is ‘recognition’; they are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response.
Trolls, rather surprisingly, dispute this, claiming that it’s a game or joke; this merely confirms the diagnosis; how sad do you have to be to find such mind-numbingly trivial timewasting to be funny?
Remember that trolls are cowards; they’ll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that’s what they do!).
Yes don’t feed the greedy little critters
I'm positive there's a Village out there somewhere that's looking for it's own Idiot.
And you most CERTAINLY fit the Bill.
Please go and find it.
Esch, I normally welcome new folks to Politics Plus, but in your case, I'll make an exception.
There is no point in replying to your arguments, because a Canadian gal has already dewmonstrated how much better she understands the issue than you do, but I will reply to your insults.
Different points of view are welcome here, and as long as they are presented with civility, you well be treated with respect here. Instead you called us morons. Nevertheless, I released your comment from moderation, but be warned. This is your only warning. If you cannot be civil, begone!
Faux knews veiwers should be prevented from voteing just so they will have a real reason to bitch.
Welcome Baily. π
I appreciate your sentiment, but if we take the position that anyone should be prevented from voting, we are no better than Republicans.
In Australia where EVERY PERSON has to vote (Compulsory Voting) there wouold be an uproar if there was a half hour wait. Admittedly I live in a small rural community but I have never had to wait more than a few minutes.
When I lived in the Capital City a line up entailing a fifteen minute delay was unusual. But then generally all our votes, manually counted and scrutinised by representatives of all the candidates, are commonly completed by next day and the closely contested soon after. We don't have the Party manipulations and obstructions seemingly common to many parts of the U S A. Do you still think you have DEMOCRATIC elections?
Tom , I'm not sure about compulsary voting, as it would tend to bring even more ignorant people to the polls. Otherwise, your system isxz the way it should be. In my opinion, as long as just one person is deprived of his or her right to vote, we do not have democratic elections.
Fox attacked a 102 year old! Fox ATTACKED a 102 year old!
That's about all Faux Noise is capable of. Desiline Victor was rightfully at the SOTU for several reasons:
1) She is an American, an average American, entitled to participate in her government with her vote; and
2) She is representing all the voters that stood in long lines for up to eight hours who weren't willing to give up their voice in government.
But why did Fox attack Desiline Victor?
The only reason I can think of is that they want to discourage others from doing the same thing the next time, afterall, didn't over 220,000 people turn away from the long line ups? Desiline Victor was the VICTOR when she exercised her right to vote. Other than that, they are idiots, I'm sure that they are trying to shame her and shame the president. Well shame on them for mocking the constitutional right to vote!
I think there is another reason. They want their brainwashed sheeple to focus on their hate, and not think of what happened, lest they become aware.
This story about this 102 year old woman needs to be publicized to the point of going viral. It demonstrates perfectly the GOP's hateful contempt for the average citizen. May I post this on Coffee & Tea Politics (giving you full credit, Tom)?
Angie, you are welcome to use anything here anrwhere and appreciate the link back to my article.
Thanks, Tom. I'll do that now for Coffee & Tea Politics.
YVW, Angie! π
