We have come to the beginning of another month and the last few days of the 2012 campaign. Am I the only one who is ready for it to be over? I’m current with replies. Tomorrow appears routine, but I could be running late due to the extra prep time needed for tomorrow’s monthly report.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:18 (average 4:27). To do it click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From MoveOn: Republicans And What They Really Think Of FEMA And Disaster Recovery
Other than the terrible inefficiency from duplication of effort, there is a more important reason not to let Republicans transfer FEMA’s responsibilities to the states. Imagine Jan Brewer’s response to a disaster, where the victims were concentrated in Latino communities.
From Daily Kos: Hey, have I mentioned lately that Iowa Rep. Steve King is a sociopath? I’m pretty sure I mentioned that. Anyway, now he’s going on about how we shouldn’t spend any federal money on helping people recover from Hurricane Sandy until after we’re sure they won’t just spend it on "Gucci bags" and "massage parlors."
This damn Republican ass is blaming the 99% for what the 1% might do.
From Alternet: Presidential candidate Mitt Romney found himself in an awkward line of questioning yesterday when reporters wanted to know if he would really slash funding for FEMA, the federal government agency in charge of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Rather than fall back on his tried-and-true model of flip-flopping his position to fit the latest poll (see Romney on abortion and health care), he opted for a bold new strategy: entirely ignore the question.
“Governor, you’ve been asked 14 times. Why are you refusing to answer the question?” one journalist complained at Romney’s press conference yesterday in Ohio.
Lord Willard is so chicken that he has not spoken to a reporter in the last 16 days, because he has so many lies hanging out.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Puzzle — 3:10 I love fuchsias — they are so delicate looking and the colour . . . well . . . it is outstanding!
MoveOn — To me, this is much like the election laws etc — if everything is left to the states, there will be no consistency in response. Not only that, the red states, which I understand to be the takers in the union, would be without adequate funds and their people would fair poorly. While the blue states, which I understand contribute more, would fare much better. FEMA evens the playing field more; provides coördination of effort and resources so that everyone benefits.
Daily Kos — Steve king, such a doorknob! Since he thought of it, must be indicative of what he would do! Dumbass!
Alternet — Saw a Rachel Maddow clip from Kettering, Ohio on this very thing. Why should Romney worry now — he has told so many lies already that one more isn't going to make a difference. If he opens his mouth, he is lying!
Cartoon — Romney having a brain fart! Damn, he started early — he would have been 5 or 6 years old then.
4:35 I hate fuchsias!…and the horse they rode in on.
3:31 Jerry, you've lost your bloom. I'm not far behind you on that score.
A close win for you!
I agree.
Bingo!
That is the only thing consistent throughout his campaign,
Romney would have an effect similar to that of nuclear fallout.
Any day a VP of Chrysler Tweets a response to "The Donald" that "YOU ARE FULL OF SHIT" is a damn good day!

The man certainly doesn't mince words which is so refreshing from an executive! Donald Trump is such a pathetic little wea… no I like weazles. … a pathetic little … trash compactor! He's all trash and has been compacted into human form unfortunately!
Who'd have thunk I'd agree with a corporate VP on a political issue!
TC – "…the last few days of the 2012 campaign. Am I the only one who is ready for it to be over? …"
Not a chance that you are the only one! I've been feeling the same way for a bit now! But since I've only been coming to this site for almost 15 months, I have no idea what goes on when there is no presidential election. I suppose next July or August you'll be ramping up for the mid terms, but until then . . .? Well if Romney wins (which he won't) I suppose we'll be dissecting he and the Republican/Teabagger stupidity and crimes. If Mr Obama wins, there will still be monitoring to do. Will you turn attentions to the alternate parties and do educational pieces on them?
Guess I'll have to just wait and see. Good night.
It isn't much different here, except the volume of material I have to sort through is far less, and there is not so much urgency.
MoveOn ~ Yes, Lynn. You're correct on that score. The Red states (takers) benefit more than the Blue states (givers) whenever FEMA steps in with aid after a disaster.
RepublicanTs would not complain as much about FEMA if St. Ronnie RayGun had signed the executive order to institute it instead of Jimmy Carter.
Daily Kos ~ This seems a tad hypocritical to me.
From Representative Steven King's website:
"Thursday, July 29, 2010
Washington D.C.- Congressman Steve King announced today that Iowa’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration had been granted by President Obama. Today’s decision comes just nine days after Congressman King wrote the President to request that he approve Iowa’s request for federal assistance following severe storms beginning in early June and continuing. King’s letter to the President was signed by all five Members of Iowa’s Congressional House delegation. As a result of today’s disaster declaration, counties that have suffered significant storm, flood and tornado damage caused by the severe weather systems that have swept through the state since June 1 are eligible for FEMA’s public assistance and hazard mitigation programs.
“Today’s decision will be welcome news for Iowans, and I appreciate the Administration’s decision to approve the state’s request for this disaster declaration,” said King. “I know that the scenes of flood damage I observed in Cherokee County are being repeated throughout both the 5th district and the state at large. Access to these federal recovery programs will help those communities that have been severely impacted by the storms get back on their feet.”
How many Gucci handbags and massages did King get for his money?
AlterNet ~ Rmoney would abolish all press conferences if he were to be elected. He is afraid of questioning reporters. You can see it on his face every time he is asked a question.
The reason? It is much harder to remember the lies you have told than the truth, if you tell it.
Cartoon ~ Is that Rmoney's head exploding from all the lies contained within?
The red states leech off the blue ovewr far more than FEMA. I would love to see a law that, except for disaster relief, states get federal spending proportionate to what they pay in.
Good catch!
LOL!
Tyhat is the nuclear fallout that is Willard ready to decend.
I was a bit curious about the name Tagg and searched for it on the internet. I came up with this little gem from Wikipedia:
Tagg
In Wolof music, a tagg is an ode of pre-Islamic origin.
It has no significance. I just thought it interesting. How in the hell did the Rmoney's come up with that name for their eldest son? Weird nickname.
BTW, his real name is Taggart \t(a)-gga-rt\ as a boy's name is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Taggart is "son of the priest".

Very interesting Patty, very interesting!
Preppies often shorten names as nicknames.
In case you were wondering, Tagg (which is NOT short for "I'm-the-Idiot-Who-Likes-to-Punch-Presidents") himself tells how he was named:

I like this better:
"I'm-the-Idiot-Who-Likes-to-Punch-Presidents".
Amen Patty! Amen!
Ditto that!
