Do you remember Michael Brown, aka Heck of a job, Brownie? He’s the idiot Bush put in charge of FEMA, who did nothing, at the same time that GW Bush was vacationing for three days, before having the notion that it might be good for him to pay attention to New Orleans drowning! Well, this Republican has stepped forward for his party to criticize Obama’s handling of the Sandy crisis, and that’s just the beginning of what Republicans are doing to politicize this tragedy.
…The entire GOP has been having a years-long allergic reaction to the very concept of "disaster relief," we’ve got Mitt Romney refusing to even mention whether or not he thinks FEMA is an abomination unto the budget gods, and now out here comes the head Katrina-botcher himself, back like a bad rash:
Michael Brown, former President George W. Bush’s former FEMA director who was criticized for his slow reaction to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, said on Monday that President Obama may have acted too quickly on Hurricane Sandy this week.
Brown said Obama’s Sunday press conference with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials was "premature" because the effect of the storm was not felt until a day later.
Oh, eff you, Brown. Yes, how dare Obama and FEMA try to prepare people for a natural disaster beforehand, instead of sitting on their asses waiting for it to happen. Everyone knows you’re supposed to have the press conference warning people about the hurricane only after they’ve already lost power and nobody can watch the damn thing. If that’s not the most Republican damn thing I’ve ever heard, it’s only because Brown didn’t figure out a way to wedge the words "tax cut" in there… [emphasis added]

Meanwhile, Willard Romney, the guy who said he wants to eliminate FEMA, cancelled his campaign events, but had ‘Hurricane Relief’ events in Ohio in the same venues where his campaign events had been scheduled. He proved the events were strictly apolitical by showing the people Republican Convention video. He collected supplies for the Red Cross that they say they cannot use. Does this remind anyone else of Paul Ryan in the soup kitchen?
Moving on, in Virginia, Republicans trotted out the following attack ad:
I understands that the Pope of the Republican Party, Grover Norquist is behind it.
And that’s just the beginning of Republican InsaniTEA on the subject. SPLC has exposed some wild conspiracy theories about Sandy. It happened because Obama is promoting homosexual marriage. It’s God’s punishment of the US for supporting a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. Obama engineered the hurricane so he could look like a strong leader. It’s Obama’s excuse to take away your guns. Scheeesch!!! Earth to Baggers! Earth to Baggers! Come in! Hello? Is anyone home in there? Talk about InsaniTEA!
On the other hand, I do have to offer grudging respect and kudos to NJ Gov. Chris Christie for having the integrity to openly thank Obama for doing such a great job, and making it clear that he is not interested in having Willard visit NJ to get in the way with his peacock act.,

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Good one TC— But I give all respect due to Christie for his stepping out of politics and giving credit and gratitude To the President ;
I give credit , without reservation , to him for refusing to pander to the Romney bid for attention and publicity;
The response of the so called Christian right is sinful , IMO
The contrast between the two responses- President Obama / contender Romney is so very clear– It is the contrast– open and efficient vs underhanded lies and manipulations-
Very well said, Phyllis.
I think the October surprise was that now the best laid plans to make Obama a one term President when up in smoke. We have come full circle. With the disaster of Sandy. One Republian coming together with the President for the country and R/R continuing the campaign trail by covering up with helping the Americans who lives have been destroyed.
Mama, that's a good point.
Kudos to Christy—I really doubted him on this—but he has proved to be maybe the only honorable Pub out there.
I expect him to return to his old ways, but for now, he understands that doing his job must take precedence.
Marva and I both figure that this is the opening gambit in his 2016 presidential run. Still have to give him credit for this, whatever the motivation.
That wouldn't surprise me a bit, John, but if that's all, he must think Willard is going to lose.
Yes I do remember Brown, an absolute disaster and the worst man that could have been appointed…
Lord Willard would find someone even worse.
Whether Christie is being totally sincere, or whether he's angling for 2016 w/ a hoped-for Rmoney loss – I don't know.
But he deserves a HUGE "Congrats" for speaking the Truth!
After all, Truth is a commodity in extremely short supply amongst Repubicans.
My guess is both.
Who let that turd out of the sewer? Didn't mr brownie leave his calling card at madame katrina's doorstep? He opened the door for her and left — does this help the willie's campaign? I know several southerners are a few bricks short of a full load, but surely they aren't all in a coma – or maybe?
As for Chris Crisco – his tone has certainly changed since the "keynote speaking days"! He took one look at his State and became human — oddly he succumbed to the gravity of his job, and took responsibility for his constituents, recognizing that regardless of "party", the value of FEMA and crossing the aisle is at times beneficial to all countrymen!! No promises of the future, but for Cristie's part – a bravo!
The T-boogers are positively showing the challenges of mental competency – hope we find them gradually drifting away, and allowing the less than criminally insane usher them to the back door!
Thanks TC – good work!
Thanks Lee. Good comment.
"So … Brown is peeved that Obama disrupted his schedule in anticipation of something that was going to affect a large percentage of the entire U.S. population, unlike that time when something happened in Benghazi that nobody knew about until after it was already over? Wow. I think I may actually, seriously hate this guy." — There are 3 commonalities between the Sandy and the Benghazi situations: 1) the loss of American lives (notice didn't mention numbers on purpose); 2) the Republican/Teabaggers have jumped all over Mr Obama for both of them; and 3) the chief person with his jackboots on is Brownie, the Failure of New Orleans. But that is where any comparison ends. The Republican/Teabaggers are a bunch of idiots! But what worries me the most is that there are Americans out there that will believe this erroneous swill — low-effort thinking, low information Americans ready to believe what they are told to believe without even giving any thought to it! Grrrrr!
And then to add insult to injury in Virginia, these attack ads with a storm theme are delivered the day after the storm. A total lack of compassion for the people who are in the midst of chaos! And I don't believe for a second that there is a foul up here. I think this was deliberate and barbaric!
As TC said in recounting some of the conspiracy theories floating around, "Obama engineered the hurricane so he could look like a strong leader." Well, by all that is holy, the Republican/Teabaggers are suddenly ascribing god-like powers to Mr Obama. Now he is the mighty Zeus able to control the winds and water. What a bunch of dumbasses! If Mr Obama were so powerful, why not skip the whole hurricane thing and just go for the easy Democratic win in the election? Again, unfortunately there are some Americans that might believe this, but . . . And the Republican/Teabaggers think this is more plausible than climate change? Give me a break!
And absolutely, Chris Christie deserves kudos for dropping the politics and working with Mr Obama and his administration to get things done. When I was cruising some articles in the Globe and Mail, I came across a press statement by Christie right after he escorted Mr Obama back to Air Force One. One thing he said was that he respected Mr Obama and that they were both about getting things done. He was also quick to say that he had had 6 telephone conversations with Mr Obama in very short order and was very pleased with the response. I'll bet there will be a Rethuglican fatwa out on Christie if he continues to talk up Mr Obama. And where is Limbaugh in all of this? Probably has no power . . . we are so blessed if that is the case! I wonder if we could arrange to have the power shut off permanently??
Amen to everything you said, Lynn.
Why prepare for a disaster when it's so much more amusing to watch poor people lose everything they have, which isn't much?
That's how it was unbder Bush and would be under Willard.
Being criticized by Brownie for the way he is handling the response to Sandy is, in a way, a kind of back-handed endorsement, although I'm sure Brown didn't intend it that way.
I like David Gerrold's response to the wing-nut theory that this is the fault of favoring same-sex marriage: "If homosexuals are potent enough to whomp up a hurricane, why are people still trying to piss them off?"
Excellent!
