I have two articles today and am current with replies, as I rush to get everything done before leaving for volunteer work in prison. Tomorrow I will be pooped and may not be online.

Short Takes:
From MoveOn: Robert Reich And Jared Bernstein Expose Mitt Romney’s Main Campaign Lies
Virtually everything Romney says is a lie, but understanding these two is critical for every American voter.
From NY Times: If the first weekend of Mitt Romney’s general election campaign is any indication, the country is in for eight weeks of wild, often random answers to some of the most important policy questions. Voters trying to understand the positions of Mr. Romney and Representative Paul Ryan are going to have a harder time than ever.
On issue after issue raised in the first weekend of interviews after the conventions, Romney and Ryan actively tried to obscure their positions, as if a clear understanding of their beliefs about taxes, health care or spending would scare away anyone who was listening. Aware that President Obama’s policies in these areas are quite popular once people learn about them, the Republicans are simply sowing confusion. Here are a few examples:
Romney and Ryan can succeed only if American voters do not understand their positions. Click through for the rest. It’s worth the read.
From The Daily Beast: You have to give him points for consistency at least. Missouri Republican Rep. Todd Akin said on Monday that he’s “totally in” the Senate race despite the national firestorm over his “legitimate rape” comments last month. Republicans have until Sept. 25 to force Akin to drop out.
That is excellent news.

3:38 I remember when I was a little kid having a record player with a needle just like that one. It was literally a needle although you could not thread it. It played 78s only. Kids now days don't even know what a record is, let alone a record player.
3:27 We had one too! I remember that ours though would play 33's too. We had an old 78 called the Old Philosopher but it's content was lost on me because I was so young. And one 33 (I think it was a 33) was by Ed Sullivan. I even remember that the few records we had were kept in a window seat bench. Those were the days eh, Jerry. I even remember when we upgraded to portable unit that could handle 78's, 33's and 45's about 1966. Trouble was, my mother would not allow any rock 'n roll, so no Beatles. I finally managed to get a record of Herman's Hermits and the Monkeys, and I still have them. Can't play them though as no turntable!
Good time, Lynn. I thought I had this one.
Yes, those were days. An album would consist of 6 to 8 records (78s) that you would stack on a spindle and they would automatically drop down and play one at a time. When they were done, you would turn over the stack to play the other side.
Now days you can carry the equivalent of 1000 albums in your pocket and play them with a tap of your finger.
I think our old original unit was 'one at a time' but the 1966 version was a stackable spindle with the swing arm that held them in place until they fell. Remember how goofy they sounded if you played them at the wrong speed? My brother and I played them at the wrong speed just to annoy my mother. That's how I got my 1st r 'n r album — promising not to do that!
$:51 I was on really slow speed on this one.
We had an old gramaphone on the farm and when my sister & I were cleaning the house on Saturday mornings we would wind it up and play the old 78's on it. When it started to wind down it was funny to listen to.
Media Matters came through again as an ever vigilant watchdog on Faux News. Check out the graphic at the Link below to see that Faux's graphic loudly claims that
Now I've checked and re-checked my math, but I'm pretty damn sure that the unemployment rate for Government WORKERS would be ZERO!

Hell, I didn't even have to check your math! What I thought was interesting was the fruit salad approach to the "true" unemployment figures. One method, the standard method used for 2009 while they inflated the 2011 figures by adding in those who have given up etc.
Trouble is, there are too many who won't question, just parrot! The figure I'd really like to see is:
"Faux Noise Unemployment Rate — 100%
Hell, for a Faux News unemployment rate of 100% even I would be glad to pay for cable TV!
I still have my turntable, even saved a couple of those discs to play 45's. I have to admit, I seldom use the turntable, but American Pie just doesn't sound good on anything else!
Puzzle — 3:27 To quote the Beach Boys "…Get around round round I get around, I'm a real cool head…"
MoveOn — Right in his own presentation, Romney says there will be no changes for seniors, no savings. But then, accusing Mr Obama of cutting $716 billion from Medicare, Romney says he will restore the savings. How can he restore something that supposedly doesn't exist? Cutting and savings are not the same thing. Taking it a step further, since he is not going to give seniors the savings, who will he give it to? . . . his cronies in the insurance companies! Fun, eh? He can't even keep his own lie straight! The $716 billion is NOT a cut in services, but rather a cut in payments to insurance companies — efficiencies!
And the welfare reform — Mr Obama gave governors the flexibility they requested in a letter to the president (I believe Romney as governor of Massachusetts signed the letter) but he never abolished the work requirement.
Romney — Liar, liar, pants on fire! :devilish:
NY Times — Romney, Liar-in-Chief, and his trusty sidekick, Deputy Pinnochio Ryan!
The Daily Beast — Only 15 more sleeps before we know officially whether Akin is in or out! Mark it on your countdown calendar!
Cartoon — I remember that I was at work when someone brought news of the tragedy — New York, Washington, Pennsylvania. We dragged the TV out into the main work area so that we could hear updates. To say the least, everyone was stunned. How could anyone conceive such a diabolical plot? As the day wore on, we were numb.
The people working in the buildings were Americans, Canadians, Brits, Aussies and more. There were Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists and others I'm sure.
And there was sorrow and anger! Great anger that refocused itself in retribution as the weeks, months and years went on. And then there was Afghanistan. Bush and Cheney responded with a war in Afghanistan that still rages on, ten years later.
We mourn these innocent victims of the WTC, the Pentagon, and the 4 planes that carried their innocent passengers unknowingly to their deaths.
To me, the heroes of 11 September 2001 are the first responders — the firefighters, police, medical personnel, and others who entered the buildings trying to get people out. The people who witnessed death and destruction, and through sheer force of will, continued to get people out are owed a debt of gratitude. Unfortunately, some of them also perished as the buildings collapsed. And the brave people of the fourth plane that fought the hijackers and crashed the plane in a Pennsylvania field, with no survivors.
A wonderful legacy and testament to their courage and selflessness would be the healing of all people. A coming together instead of a separation in despair. Let a healing love be their ultimate gift to you.
Thanks all. Those unemployment figures from Nameless are amazing!
