Yesterday was the hottest day of the current wave and the temperature in my apartment dropped below 90° just a few minutes ago.  Because I have had almost no sleep, this is today’s only article.  I am not current with replies, but will catch up ASAP.  Tomorrow is a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:40 (average 4:38).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: Keep This Elizabeth Warren Quote In Mind When You Hear The GOP Throw Todd Akin To The Wolves

As usual, Elizabeth is spot-on!

From NY Times: Even the decline in the jobless rate, to 8.1 percent from 8.3 percent in July, was a disappointment, because it indicated a shrinking labor force as people gave up looking for work.

But properly understood, the report should not encourage voters to support Mitt Romney. That’s because boosting tepid job growth requires stimulative fiscal policy — including spending to rehire teachers and to rebuild schools, roads and other infrastructure, as well as loan modifications for underwater homeowners. Mr. Obama has proposed all of that, while Republicans have blocked such measures and the Republican agenda rejects them.

And sadly, Republicans refuse to move on this.  In fact…

From Chicago Tribune: Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan said on Friday that another round of monetary stimulus from the U.S. Federal Reserve would be a bad idea.

Every penny government spends meeting America’s legitimate needs is a penny Republicans can’t give to a billionaire.

This was a bad precedent.

  1. 3:14  Did I earn my stripes today?

  2. Puzzle — 3:46  I just don't relate to jailhouse black and white stripes!

    MoveOn — Go Elizabeth Warren!!!!!

NY Times — You have a voting public that for the most part does not understand economics and job growth.  They understand that their pay cheques have not grown and they feel precipititiously close to the unemployment cliff. You have a Republican/Teabagger party that like that because they can then manipulate the voters with lies just to get into power.  And then you have Democrats who are trying to follow previously validated winning actions — stimulus spending —  for job growth that were used by both Republicans and Democrats in the near past

    What a playing field!

Chicago Tribune — Paul Ryan can kiss my grits!  He hasn't a clue what he is talking about.  Lyin' Ryan needs to look at past Republican presidents that used stimulus to get the economy going.  He doesn't understand the principles of investment, and for that matter neither does Rmoney.

Cartoon — Gerald Ford should never have pardoned Nixon.  Nixon couldn't have been impeached because he resigned first.  Some say that was the honourable thing to do.  I don't.  President or not, he should have been held to account.  They tried to impeach Clinton for less, but did not succeed.  I never trusted nor liked tricky Dicky so I certainly wasn't sad to see him go.

  3. My stripes go up and down, much more slimming that way.

  4. Today is the actual "Unhappy Anniversary" marking ONE YEAR that Repubicans have now blocked The American Jobs Act.

  5. Oh, BTW – we should learned from Clint Eastwood himself how he came to use that stool:

“When I saw the stool sitting there, it gave me the idea.  I’ll just put the stool out there and I’ll talk to Mr. Obama….”

There's a "Take Home Message" from  that:
Old men really do look at their stools WAYYYY too much!

  6. As usual, Elizabeth Warren is spot on with her observations.

When the jobs growth remains stagnant or close to it, the RepublicanTs rejoice that their strategy is working. Hopefully, the American voters will wise up to the fact of what is happening in this country and who is really at fault. The American Jobs Act would have changed the statistics.

Nixon's pardon was a bad, bad move.
