If you’ve read me for a while, you know I don’t say many nice things about Republican politicians and pundits. I have no objection to doing so. The problem is that, given the current state of the Republican Party, opportunities to say something nice are few and far between. However, when I learn of a Republican doing something worthy of praise, I’m happy to give it.
Allegations that top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin is an operative for The Muslim Brotherhood are bull, Republican Sen. John McCain said today in a hands-across-the-aisle floor speech.
McCain, the GOP’s 2008 presidential pick, trashed a report from The Center For Security Policy [hate mongers delinked] that pegged Abedin (pictured right) as trying to influence U.S. foreign policy in favor of the extremist group.
“To say that the accusations [are] not substantiated by the evidence they offer is to be overly polite and diplomatic about it. It is far better, and more accurate, to talk straight: These allegations about Huma, and the report from which they are drawn, are nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable citizen, a dedicated American, and a loyal public servant," the Arizona senator said…
…Abedin was born in Michigan, but moved with her parents to Saudi Arabia, returning to the U.S. for college.
Republican Rep. and former 2012 GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann, among others, have urged federal authorities to investigate the suggestion that Abedin is using her position and influence with Clinton to advance the interests of the Brotherhood, which promotes jihad…

I won’t go into Republican hate speech against Abedin, because I already covered it.

Kudos to John McCain. I disagree on most of what he says, but if the rest of the Republican Party leaders were this ethical, the nation would be far better off.

Isn't it amazing– Ethics are in such short supply these days ; we are all stunned as well as appreciative when Ethics are so displayed–Thank John McCain—
My point, exactly, from the right side of the aisle.

Between this and another incident in 2008 where a woman denounced Mr Obama as a Kenyan Muslim and McCain would not tolerate such talk, show that he has some ethics, and he is not adverse to calling people, including Guano Girl, to account or shut up. Guano Girl is such a loose cannon that I am surprised, in one sense, that the party doesn't censure her. On the other hand, they are probably thinking that this is just the ticket to distract voters and the Democrats from the tax return issue. Unfortunately for Rmoney, it isn't. Too bad the rest of the party don't have McCain's ethics . . . but then there would be no party to hate!
Indeed, but Egyptian Muslims are reading this on US websites and seeing it on Faux Noise and attacked Clinton because of it. Republicans are putting her life in danger.
On Republican sites I read, McCain is widely dismissed as a wimp, a "squish" (whatever that means) and a moderate. Probably because he won't embrace every steaming pile that's thrown out there.
Infidel, my friend, I know you well enough to know that you already knew exactly what you would find there. 🙂
I had no respect for John McCain until this speech. Bravo!
I had it once, lost it during his campaign, and just got a little back.
