I’m getting an early start today, because I’m quite tired and need to collect the data for tomorrow’s monthly report when I’m done. I’m current with replies. Tomorrow I have errors to run.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:40 (average 4:19). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From MoveOn: The Graphic That Every Small Business Owner In The Country Needs You To See (And Share!)
There is no need to oppose business, as long as we oppose corporate criminals, the business segment that the Republican Party supports.
From NY Times: Certainly, Mr. Edwards has lost in the court of public opinion. But on Thursday he was vindicated, for the moment, by a jury of mostly working class North Carolinians who could not reach a verdict on the five charges of campaign finance fraud and conspiracy he faced.
They acquitted him on one, which was based on a $200,000 check that the heiress Rachel Mellon had written him in January 2008, the month he dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination for president.
The Justice Department offered no indication on whether it would retry Mr. Edwards.
I have long thought that Edwards, whom I used to support, has behaved in a horribly sleazy manner, but I never thought his misdeeds were criminal wrongdoing.
From Sacramento Bee: Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa called on GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and the Republican Party to prove they haven’t declared war on women and workers by supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act…
…The Paycheck Fairness Act would hold employers accountable for pay discrepancies between their male and female employees while strengthening incentives to prevent pay discrimination. The legislation, along with the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which was the first piece of legislation signed into law by President Obama to allow more time for women to sue for pay disparity, will go a long way toward ending this type of discrimination in the workplace.
Needless to say, Rmoney refused to support it, and last night, House Republicans, blocked the bill, preventing a vote, and confirming that the Republican War on Women is real.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
4:07 You got this one Tom!
That sign should be posted in every small shopowner’s window for the public to see and think about.
Issa just wanted to waste taxpayer money by prosecuting John Edwards. Yes, he’s a sleazebag but that is not a felony.
The RepublicanTs will still adamantly insist they are not waging a war on women even though all the evidence proves they are.
Jerry has a shot.
I agree!
Issa wasn’t involved.
They lie.
3:14 I took the shot!
Dang! 🙁

MoveOn — Does anyone remember like I do going ‘downtown’ on Saturdays with your mother and going to all the stores — the shoe store, the bakery, the butcher etc and then going to the market square, again right in the centre of town, to buy fresh fruit and vegetables? I can still see it in my minds’ eye, a cornucopia of sights, sounds and smells. If we were good and lucky, mother would buy us each a cone of fresh cut french fries smothered in malt vinegar for a dime. The biggest store in town was the Timothy Eaton department store but in those days, it only sold clothing. The other ‘big’ store was the SS Kresge 5 and Dime and the Woolworth’s store which had cheaper stuff including toys. I remember when our first big box store arrived — K Mart — and saturdays seemed to change forever! And yes, I remember milk being delivered by horse drawn wagon (the milkman, Jim, called me pickle puss!) and bread too. The vegetable man pulled his cart during the summer and fall, while the knife sharpener showed up pulling his wetstone twice a year. Those were the days. I was about 13 when K Mart showed up, and that seemed to be the end of small business. Now I get my fruits and vegetables at a market, instead of the supermarket and prefer to shop in local small stores if I can.
John Edwards — Can’t say I really followed this closely. But I do not condone his actions with his wife. In that regard, he reminds me of Newty. What horrible company he is tied to through his dalliance!
The Republican/Teabagger War on Women — The Paycheck Fairness Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act were destined to fail eventually with a Republican/Teabagger dominated Congress. And why would Rmoney support them when he can attempt to divide and conquer. He does not care about the American people! He only cares about the 1% and the corporations. He makes it abundantly clear everytime he opens his mouth that there is a Republican/Teabagger war on women.
Cartoon — George Wallace — Hate personified!
Where I grew up, there wasn’t really a downtown, but the largest stores in my community were the A & P (supermarket) and the 5 & 10 cent store. For everything else, we went to completely local merchants. Milk and bread were delivered daily. The farmers market was about ten miles out off town, but the corn and tomatoes were so sweet that I thought of them as candy. Living downtown in a big city, small mom and pop businesses, other than the ones that cater to the 1%, are hard to find.
The only moral difference is that Edwards never ran as a “christian values” candidate, so he remains one step over Newter.
Bingo.
In the end, he saw the error of his ways and became a civil rights advocate.
I remember well the A&P. It was quite a ways away, but if mother ran out of something, she’d send me down on my bike. I remember going down once to get a head of lettuce for 25 cents and a Jane Parker apple pie. Those pies were so good, and amazingly enough, it made it home in one piece!
I thought George Wallace had mended is ways but I wasn’t sure and I was in a hurry. Was his seeing the light before the assassination attempt or after?
Because mine was in NJ, I think it was a different store. 😉
Shortly before. That’s why they tried to kill him.
