Today I’m still hurting, so I’ll be brief.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow depends on the day.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:35 (average 4:45).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: The Craziest Idea Our Great-Grandparents Ever Had

And The GOP wants to give control of our retirement to Banksters.

From Reuters: Lawyers for 15 Muslims in the United States barred from boarding commercial flights because they were on the U.S. "no-fly" list will on Friday ask a federal appeals court to reinstate their constitutional challenge of the anti-terrorism measure.

The plaintiffs, who are U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents, said they learned they were on the list when prohibited, without advance warning, from boarding a commercial airliner, and were later denied any means of petitioning the government to be removed from the roster.

I favor the plaintiffs. They are likely to get a fair hearing, because this case will be heard here in Oregon.

From USA Today: The trial of Anders Behring Breivik was interrupted briefly Friday when the brother of one of his 77 victims hurled a shoe at the confessed mass killer and yelled, "Go to hell," before being escorted from the court room, police and witnesses said.

It was the first outburst from the normally subdued crowd watching the terror trial in Oslo’s district court since the proceedings began in mid-April.

Breivik — a self-styled, anti-Muslim militant — has been charged with terrorism, admitting he carried out a bomb-and-shooting rampage that stunned Norway on July 22.

That gives this terrorist something else in common with GW Bush. Don’t forget that The Republican Tea Party was trying to spread their racist dogma to Europe through their financial support for and association with Breivik.

  1. 4:21  I’m slipping.

  2. Cartoon — I remembered the name but nothing of the details, so I looked it up.  Here’s the link for those who need a refresher, or for those like me who need to learn even more.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Ellsberg  While reading this, something I remember you saying TC came to mind although I don’t remember the exact words.  It had to do with patriotism and that sometimes being patriotic means doing what is right even though it might appear to go against the country.  Thank goodness for the example of Randy Kehler in propelling Ellsberg!  Yes, Ellsberg is a real American hero!

MoveOn — This seems my day for an education in American heroes!  Taking care of our elders was a crazy liberal idea that originated with FDR.  From Wikipedia . . .

“…With the bouncy popular song “Happy Days Are Here Again” as his campaign theme, FDR defeated incumbent Republican … at the depth of the Great Depression.  FDR’s persistent optimism and activism contributed to a renewal of the national spirit reflecting his victory over paralytic illness to become the longest serving president in U.S. history.  … In his first hundred days in office, which began March 4, 1933, Roosevelt spearheaded major legislation and issued a profusion of executive orders that instituted the New Deal—a variety of programs designed to produce relief (government jobs for the unemployed), recovery (economic growth), and reform (through regulation of Wall Street, banks and transportation). The economy improved rapidly from 1933 to 1937. . . major surviving programs include the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which was created in 1933, and Social Security, which Congress passed in 1935. “[ and the regulation of Wall Street by the SEC]

The Republican and bankster debacle of the Great Depression; the Republican/Teabagger and bankster debacle of the 2008 financial crisis — oh the similarities are astounding!  Anyone who supports the Republican/Teabaggers has to be bloody balmy!!!

Reuters — Especially considering some of these individuals are American citizens and military veterans, whatever happened to ‘innocent until proven guilty’?  I hope that they do get a fair trial and that there is no interference from politicans or others.  If someone looks hard enough, I bet they could find fault with even their own grandmother because she used the wrong chocolate chips in her cookies!  She’s siding with the Côte d’Ivoire’s oppressors.

Breivik — Too bad the shoe didn’t connect!  Certainly wish the Iraqui journalist’s shoe had connected with Baby Bush!

    • Thoreau once said that true patriots serve the state with their conscience.

I think the idea was first proposed by Thomas Paine during the Revolutionary War, but FDR made it happen.

The similarities matched, because the causes did: the combination od griossly unequal distribution of wealth and unfettered speculation.

      I agree.

      Amen!
