Kim: A Stellar Appointment

One of the areas, in which I have been most critical of Barack Obama, has been his appointments, especially in the financial sector.  I think that appointing the three blind mice were his worst decisions, and it bunches my skivvies that Barry Bernanke and Tim Geithner are still there.  Therefore I am surprised that his appointment to head the World Bank actually thrills me.

24KimPresident Obama on Friday nominated Dartmouth College President Jim Yong Kim to head the World Bank, turning to a physician and public health expert to run an organization traditionally led by heavyweights from the world of finance or politics.

The choice surprised those who followed the administration’s search for someone to replace President Robert B. Zoellick when he leaves office in June. Kim’s lack of finance experience was cited as a particular concern for an agency that aims to strengthen private markets and build infrastructure — alongside the public health and social programs it underwrites in the poorer parts of the world.

But Kim’s nomination breaks new ground for an agency whose leadership has reflected a certain American patriarchy: The bank’s first 10 presidents have been white men drawn from the top echelons of the country’s boardrooms or government agencies. By tradition, the U.S. government chooses the World Bank chief… [emphasis added]

Kudos to Barack Obama!  Instead of the normal Neocon or Bankster, he had filled this post with a man that has a heart to help the downtrodden, not exploit them.  I urge support of his confirmation.

    Thumbs up ^ President Obama….

  3. At last, we’re finally starting to see some evidence of the Obama we thought we were electing back in 2008! I am glad!

  4. Excellent nomination! Does anyone want to bet the RepublicanTs will block him because he has no experience on Wall St.?

  5. Good thing that the Senate doesn’t have authority over the confirmation of Mr Kim!  If they did, they’d cite his choice of dance music as a reason not to confirm.  Based on everything I’ve seen, he seems like an excellent choice — visionary, open to new ideas, likeable, compassionate, knowledgeable — everything that the Senate ie GOP are not!  Good choice Mr Obama.
