Yesterday I slept late, paid bills and did paperwork.  I’m current with replies.  We have a special treat today.  The daily cartoon was made by SoINeedAName, aka Nameless.  Today I have a lot of housework to do.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 6:01 (average 7:06).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, on Friday called off a scheduled vote on the online antipiracy bill that had rallied the World Wide Web and rocked Capitol Hill, and House leaders took steps to slow legislation as well. Taking to the medium that helped organize extensive protests against the legislation, Mr. Reid, Democrat of Nevada, announced a delay in the vote via the social media Web site Twitter. But he indicated the issue, which had been scheduled for a vote Tuesday, had not died.

Woooo Hoooo!!  Here’s Keith with Markos Moulitsas on Countdown.

Thank goodness for Oregon’s Ron Wyden!

From NY Daily News: A fake CNN email claiming that Newt Gingrich pressured his ex-wife to have an abortion made the rounds Friday – the latest entry in South Carolina’s infamous history of dirty political tricks.

The message, which was sent from a phony account made to look like a CNN breaking news alert, was sent out to dozens of state Republican activists.

This is important only because it is a harbinger of what will come in the general election.  Remember that Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove is Romney’s campaign mentor, and this has his fingerprints all over it.

From CBS: The Supreme Court on Friday threw out electoral maps drawn by federal judges in Texas that favored minorities. The decision ultimately could affect control of the U.S. House of Representatives and leaves the fate of Texas’ April primaries unclear.

The justices ordered the three-judge court in San Antonio to come up with new plans that pay more attention to maps created by Texas’ Republican-dominated state Legislature. All four of the state’s new congressional seats could swing based on the outcome.

But the Supreme Court did not compel the use of the state’s maps in this year’s elections, as Texas wanted. Only Justice Clarence Thomas said he would have gone that far.

I expected the fascist five of SCROTUS to goose step, but this still isn’t over.  Even if the three judge court does cave, Texas still needs DOJ approval due to their record of extreme racism in drawing districts.

  1. Rove can act freely and simply claim that the left is behind it all. He will.  All the right wing extremist faithful will go for that one eagerly.

  2. Cartoon — Great cartoon Nameless!  Only one thing, it should be in a heart shaped frame, and even the textbox could be heart shaped.  Black frame for a blackhearted individual.

SOPA & PIPA — Interesting that Keith and Marcos both thought that these bills would be quietly and quickly passed (not that they support them, but because that’s how the Congress tends to operate) and nobody would be the wiser.  And the public reaction was phenomenal — 70 sites going dark, petitions and who knows what else.  The Congress, like rats from a sinking ship, back pedal.  But Ron Wyden, Democrat from Oregon wasn’t going to let it happen, right from the beginning.  As I understand from an interview with Ron by Keith seen yesterday, Ron has an alternative bill in the works that he hopes will meet the concerns of the Hollywood executives.  Markos says that apparently Google and Redditt are aboard with the new bill as Wyden has it written now.

If there was any doubt that people can effect change, this, the recall of Scott Walker in Wisconsin, and OWS are proof that change is possible.

The “CNN E-mail” — What ever happened to honest discourse?  All this dirty tricks BS is so juvenile and a big turn off.  Maybe that’s what they are trying to do — for the sheeple, it works, but for those with brains, maybe they think they’ll just not vote.  Fungus like “Turd Blossom” need to be sitting growing in a nice dank jail cell.

Texas Electoral Maps — Who has the final say?  Can the DOJ trump SCOTUS in this should SCOTUS find for the state legislature maps, or any others that are less than egalitarian?  It seems that the 3 Texas justices proposed reasonable electoral redistricting maps made necessary by the most recent census info, but of course, the Republican/Teabaggers won’t stand for that because these districts favour the Democrats.  Figures that Clarence Thomas would have gone further — what a bought and paid for goosestepper.

    • I think you’re right WRT the heart-shaped call-out balloon.  And to be fair, I did see something similar a bit back (but it’s not exactly like inventing the wheel), so I really can’t take full credit, other than I did actually construct this one myself.

    • Lynn, the last time I tried to make a heart shape frame, it took me over six hours.  I forgot how long since.

I haven’t read Ron’s bill yet, but think it will be fine.

      Amen!

      Triple amen!

Lynn, at this point DOJ is the highest authority, but the fascist five could override them.

  3. 5:17

Harry Reid called off the vote because he finally listenend to the people and got scared. Too many of his people in the Senate backed off their co-sponsoship because of petitions to them from we the people.

Great cartoon! It shows off the Newtster at his finest(example of a fascist pig  He doesn’t need any false rumors. He has enough baggage of his own.

  4. 4:46  I’m surprised I did as well as I did.  It is a tough one.

  5. Great Cartoon NameLess  Thanks TomCat
